I was born in 1995 and i'm chronologically 25 yrs old now. every time i hear your music i swear i heard you guys as a kid but no one i know has ever heard of you before i played my favorite songs by you for them. Any of you guys have a idea or direct answer for why and or how this happend or happening? Side Note: Every time i listen to your music. i instantly relax and smile & feels like i am about to ball my eyes out with tears of happiness.
No idea, but thanks for the kind words! I suppose you were about ten years old when Galilean came out, so it’s possible you heard us being played somewhere in a public place. But it’s probably more likely that there’s just some common undercurrent in our music that you recognize; maybe you were familiar with an influence of ours as a child.

Does any of you're songs include a Jazz Bass? Or are they all Presicion Bass?
All of the bass tracks on the first three albums are all Jazz bass. On later albums, Dave used a Jaguar bass with the pickups in series mode. No Precision bass at all, actually!

In case you missed it, Matt talked with Machine Music about (his favorite Rosetta album) The Anaesthete. This is a super-deep dive into what is by far the strangest period in the band's history.

Our guitarist Matt (Ghost Lode) has another solo release up on Bandcamp. Six tracks, each a piece of music composed and recorded in a single shot on Saturdays during the season of Lent. Definitely has a Vangelis kind of mood to it. Check it out.

Matt just released some music on Bandcamp, pay-what-you-wish like all the Rosetta stuff. It sounds a little bit like Sower of Wind, if you were into that, but with a more acoustic kind of vibe.
Today I’m releasing my first solo music apart from Rosetta, under the name Ghost Lode. It’s drifting ambient music with an acoustic vibe, because it’s all real instruments recorded with microphones. I can’t tell you whether it’s uplifting or depressing; I’m not really sure. Enjoy, either way.

Today we're very excited to release a new EP. Terra Sola is three songs, pay-what-you-wish, available exclusively via Bandcamp. Like Sower of Wind, this is a full-on DIY release, conceived in the fires of non-stop touring. Unlike Sower of Wind, it's not an experimental or 'lo-fi' album. Terra Sola has the towering peaks and intricate valleys you might expect from a Rosetta release, but with new sonic textures and a fuller development of the intimate 'chamber' sounds we've been playing with more since Utopioid. Conceptually, it deals with our relationship to the environment, an issue which of course produces deep ambivalence for a band that travels as often and as far as we do.
It's been a little over two years since Utopioid was released, and Terra Sola functions as a kind of capstone to that period -- the most intense touring cycle of the band's 16-year career. This release helps us to tie up a lot of loose ends -- musical, conceptual, personal, even financial -- and to try out new skills and new working methods. After so much time on the road, we just wanted to get together and write one big, panoramic piece of music; but as sometimes happens, the material took on a life of its own and the scope of the release expanded dramatically. Rather than take these ideas to a traditional studio, we entrusted Matt with engineering and mixing. Most of it was done in our tiny practice room in Philadelphia, with some odds and ends recorded in our homes and at the Radar Studio in Connecticut. In a sense, we're signing off on an era, and welcoming a new creative environment for the next cycle.
Some of you might notice that our bass player Dave didn't play on this release. In fact, he was only able to play one live show with us during the whole Utopioid cycle (the last one, as it turns out -- Decibel's Metal & Beer Festival in April). Life and family outside the band required his complete attention for the last few years, but we want to clarify that he's still a member of Rosetta and will be playing more with us in the future, on recordings and hopefully on some live shows as well. And since we've been privileged to have so many talented friends tour with us in Dave's absence, we also intend to expand the band's collaborative horizons on future releases.
The artwork for this release features photography by Johnny Dang, from the band O'Brother. Johnny actually took these images while he was playing bass for us on one of our weirder recent tours, a round-the-world-in-3-weeks run through Iceland, the Baltics, Russia, Japan, and Hong Kong last year. We're so happy to have the work of a good friend that connects both to the music's concept and to our sharedexperiences and collective memories as a band.
As always, this release will be available exclusively on Bandcamp for a period of time, with licensed physical media and streaming platforms to follow later on. Wheels are already turning for vinyl and CD formats so we promise to keep you posted on that.

Background: ROSETTA returned in 2017 with Utopioid, their sixth full-length album and most concept-driven work to date, an intersection of heaviness and beauty. Sower of Wind is a new EP built on soundscapes buried inside Utopioid – elements which the band thought deserved a fuller treatment. "Those soundscapes developed with a concept and a story in mind, but we decided to step back from them and see where they could lead when considered on their own terms," guitarist Matt Weed explains.
Sower of Wind isn't a companion record to Utopioid per se, but shares the same four-part cyclic structure, referencing seasons, cardinal directions, times of day. Each track draws inspiration and source material from the corresponding quadrant of Utopioid, but uses it to tell a different story. It's a more peaceful, primordial listen than its older brother, without vocals or percussion, drawing tension from the interplay of acoustic instruments and washed-out drones. It's great turned up loud, and even better on headphones in the dark.
Sower of Wind was recorded at home in bits and pieces, through late 2017 and 2018. "It was mixed in part on tour, taking advantage of the fertile bed of ideas that comes with long- term close quarters, and the sleeplessness of non-stop transit. It's a labor of love for us -- very different from our normal sonic presentation, but equally representative of who we are (and who we're becoming) as a band," Weed comments.

New Release this Winter: Sower of Wind
We are excited to announce that we will release a four-song instrumental EP, titled Sower of Wind, at the beginning of 2019. Sower of Wind takes background soundscapes from Utopioid -- one from each of the four quadrants of the album -- and builds them into completely new pieces, each with a distinct sense of time and place. This is an experimental release for us, emphasizing atmosphere and texture over structure or program, and we think it highlights and develops some of the background detail buried inside Utopioid -- detail which often goes unnoticed, but which is just as important to what Rosetta is (and is becoming) as the towering climaxes. We hope you'll enjoy it.
Sower of Wind will be available (as always) as a pay-what-you-wish HD download via our Bandcamp site, featuring artwork by Studio Workhorse/Jordan Butcher (The Anaesthete, Utopioid). Vinyl, CD, and cassette versions will emerge a little while after the digital release.
Tracklist: 1. East 2. South 3. West 4. North
