Snowdown!

Pulling this convo out into its own post because it likely deserves its own main post. 

So League of Legends has their own in universe versions of various real life holidays:

Their version of Christmas is “Snowdown” though with the lack of christianity in universe it seems to be mixed in with some sort of new year celebration: 

This video though it is likely outdated because it’s from the time where the actual events of the characters clashing in game was still part of the lore itself still provides some interesting ideas about what Snowdown is and how it is celebrated in the various regions: 

- It’s a commemoration of one year passing to the next - In Bandle City: feasts and banquets up to a weak long - Demacia: Solemness, grand ceremonies for last year’s fallen heroes - Noxus: Offering clemency to the prisoners with the least serious crimes - Time of ceasefires, allowing soldiers to return home

Here are some examples of the kind of in game trailers the game makes for Snowdown. 

I think a fanfic focusing on what Snowdown would look like for the various characters would be super interesting. Like maybe one set before Act 1? Snowdown while Vander was still around, while Silco still had nobody (would he maybe every try to approach Vander under the whole “ceasefire” idea or would he be more the “remembering the fallen friends” type), Snowdown on the various levels of richness, with like Cait getting the most lavish (but probably still tasteful) one, Jayce more medium sized with his mom, Ekko having a very modest one with his parents etc. 

And then Mel as a contrast maybe somewhere standing up there, nursing some beverage and remembering how different her childhood Snowdown’s were in Noxus. Heimerdinger… I dunno I could picture him walking the streets cheerfully while thinking of Bandle City snowdowns and finding some sort of compromise between the different traditions. 

Or one the year after where Vi is in jail maybe hearing the guards talking about it, probably picking fights.

Building bombs was kind of a waste of her talent

But that’s what her whole shtick is based on? Yeah, let me explain.

As a kid who wasn’t super into violence [considering the fact that she seems terrified in the only real fight we see her get dragged into when she’s Powder], but was stuck in a family that really seemed to value a person’s ability to kick the crap out of someone. [Vi and Vander are both boxers, and their skill at that is something everyone seems to admire about both of them. Mylo and Claggor both also have some degree of skill in hand to hand considering they were able to mostly hold their won in the street fight.] Powder’s obsession with bombs starts to make some degree of sense.

A way for her to contribute to fights with out her having to get into the thick of it. She’s just flat out too young at the time to really help out in a physical altercation any other way outside of bomb making, unless someone put a gun in her hand. [Something no one would do because she’s a 10 year old, none of them have any real idea how to shoot a gun beyond that arcade game. And at the very least to Mylo, Powder is a jinx, and putting a deadly weapon in her hand is the worst possible idea.]

Powder has far more skill in general machine repair than she does at bomb building at that point in time. Her repairing and upgrading the shooting gallery game seems to be a regular occurrence, which she does without any sort of struggle. It’s completely trivial to her. A contrast to the fact that the entire time we see her as Powder, she never manages to make a bomb, without the use of a hexcrystal, that works. Powder isn’t good at making bombs, she’s good at shooting things, and good at fixing and upgrading machines. Her obsession with bombs seems to come from the fact that her older siblings want her to be a better fighter, but don’t want to give the 10 year old a real gun, and being good at fixing machines doesn’t help in fights. My guess is that one of them postulated that building bombs couldn’t be that different from building any other type of machine. Because they’re teenagers who don’t know anything about mechanics or bomb building.

That’s my whole theory as to how exactly a kid like Powder, who seems scared of violence, and has no raw talent for bomb building, ended up getting into bombs.

For her to continue her fixation on bombs, after her first truly successful bomb killed off all of her adoptive family members, is also kind of odd. Sure Silco could have pushed her into continuing her work on bombs, but considering how much she seems to still enjoy making them I doubt that’s what happened. When she’s first taken in by Silco as Jinx, she has far more skill in mechanical repair than she does in bomb building. Not to mention she’s already a great shot. So the idea that he was trying to use her for her skills and talents, by making her focus in on bomb building, doesn’t really make that much sense. Because if he was he would try and lead her into perfecting skills she’s already got, like training her to be an even better shot, with a variety of guns. Or having her focus in on mechanics of machines from Piltover, and eventually hextech. Trying to find ways to sabotage them and stuff.

The girl has so much raw skill in machine work that she does things like make those crazy intricate bug bombs, and figures out the new super advanced not even on the market version of hextech in barely any time at all.

Like all of the skill she has when we see her as Jinx after the time skip isn’t due to any innate talent for bomb building, it’s due to sheer stubborn hard headedness. She decided when she was like 7 that she was going to become great at building bombs, and somehow that stubborn bullheadedness in the face of continual failure, was the most dominate personality trait that carried over from Powder. Could you imagine how amazing she would be if she’d actually spent those years focused on improving a skill she was already good at. If she’d focused in on inventing and stuff I bet she would have started building stuff to rival hextech years before the time skip ended. And if she honed in on her shooting talent I bet she would have been an unrivaled markswoman.

But that didn’t happen because she got really hung up on bombs. So now she’s really good at that because that’s what she focused on doing all those years. 

And like good for Jinx. To stubbornly stick with something she had no innate talent for, and brute forcing her way into being the most brilliant bomb builder Piltover and Zaun had ever seen. That takes a lot of raw willpower. What the girl lacks in mental stability she makes up for in pure stubbornness. Which is probably the worst possible combination.

First of all I would like to give shotout to @spider-plants for writing this in their reblog

I do agree that it is one of the last times we have seen Powder as we know her. During her fight with Ekko she looks genuinely scared and I don't think she is acting or trying to manipulate Ekko.

I also think that being beaten by Ekko reminds her of being hit by Vi. In both episode 3 and bridge fight scene, she is beaten by someone who she directly depends on, but the reasons she depends on them are different.

Vi is her older sister, the one she always relayed on and literally couldn't survive without, so when being hit by her she's terrified.

Same with Ekko, because he has an upper hand in this scene, it depends on him whether she will live or not, so she has the same scared expression. As i mentioned in the last post, he is also a direct tie to her past so she has Powder's scared expression.

Before she activates her bomb, she has an expression of resignation. Being hurt even more by Vi leaving with Caitlyn and by Ekko's beating, it looks like she gave up. By this point she almost fully killed Powder so its true that its one of the final moments when we see Pow-Pow. And i dont think its Jinx trying to off herself, its Powder who is so tired of her pain and half Insanity that she tries to destroy herself before she completely loses it.

BUT but But

Its not the last time we see her. The last time is here.

The dinner scene

She is yet again vulnerable and confused. She can't choose between two members of her family because she can't turn away when someone directly expresses their attachment/care for her, as both Vi and Silco do.

Also this is the point where she chooses between Jinx and Powder, which is pretty clear with chairs and all.

She feels like Vi wants her to be only Powder, who she isn't anymore, but Silco wants her to be Jinx, who she still isnt. At least not fully.

Small no-angst break for yall. Here Jinx mimics Powder's expression of innocence and concern.

Break is over. Now this is ladies, gentlemen and non-binary folks is the last time we see Powder.

She just killed another member of her family, someone who cared for her when no one else was there. Despite Silco's attempts to kill Powder and shape Jinx the way he saw fit, I think that he was that anchor that remains of Powder clinged to. He was her family and all Powder wanted was someone to love her and stay. And he did that. He wasn't a good dad but he was still a dad for her.

As Jinx stated herself, she was a creation of Vi's words and action, not Silco's.

Silco did help create Jinx but only by his ignorance. By that I mean that Powder/Jinx didn't recieve the help that she needed and Silco only worsened her conditions by deeping the co dependency they had and allowing her to act inadequately(torturing Sevika, killing enforcers, firing at his people and etc.) So its not Jinx who was attached to him, but Powder. Or at least "the between" she was until she killed him.

In my opinion, Jinx is created from pain and death. The more pain she feels, the more insane she becomes. With every direct or indirect loss of her family, she becomes more and more Jinx.

Silco is now dead(direct loss), her sister is now different and proved to leave her every time even when she tried coming back(indirect loss) so now Powder, the very last part of her, has no one to anchor herself to.

If before that Vi still had a chance at getting some part of her sister back, from this point on Powder is truly gone.

We can see it in her expression here. Powder is gone from her face and her soul.

Yo what if Jinx calls Ekko "the boy savior" because he tried to rescue her from Silco? Possibly on multiple occasions?

He was probably so relived after he found out that she's alive so he tried to talk to her or/and rescue her from Silco thinking he was holding her hostage. Imagine his surprise when she refused. So he tried it a few more times but when she made it clear that she isn't going with him (by killing a few firefights) he gave up.

So after all this time, when meeting on the bridge she mocks him for trying to save her and actually saving others.?
