Marv was an amazing human in life and the legacy of his talent and commitment to performance and education persists. I had the privilege to study under him directly and I continue to study “Four way Composition for the Modern Drummer” which remains relevent and challenging. I last had breakfast with Marv in 2017 when I moved back to Minnesota after splitting up with my former fiancé. Marv was curious about my creative endeavors but more apparent was his concern for my mental health and well-being. That sweet tender soul passed while I was struggling with mania and it went by unnoticed by me in that state. I recently tried to call and found he had moved on. I continue to be thankful for the influence he has over me and many other musical artists.
