Trucy Wright and Mr Hat ~ Ace Attorney
Finally got round to editing some pics that were taken way back in March (oops). Trucy is such a favourite of mine, as is Mr Hat, and they were such a joy to cosplay (though I did keep spooking people at con who thought Mr Hat was a real person hovering over my shoulder 🙃)
I made pretty much everything myself, and I am so proud of it all! (Details below the cut, feel free to skip)
Mr Hat is made from 2 cylinders of eva foam with PVC piping (plus lots of nuts and bolts) for support. And that's not editing! There is nothing supporting him from underneath, and he is hands-free to carry around; he is attached to me at the waist via 2 belts that thread through openings I made in the side seams of my dress. All the wood detailing was engraved in with a dremel before he was painted, and I drafted patterns to sew up his cape and shirt. Similarly, his hat is also made from eva foam and covered with the same fabric I used for the cape. The hat fits me too, just only when I have my Trucy wig on or else it's much too big :') His head is also on a hinge so his mouth can open and close. He's basically a big puppet!
Some notes: There are magnets in the hat and gloves to hold his hand in place as well as magnets in his jaw to hold his head close but unfortunately I didnt use strong enough magnets and my lovely Apollo (pictured) had to keep fixing him. His head also started drooping towards the end of the day (this is why I always test my cosplays before entering any competitions!) and I'm struggling to think of a better way to stablise it - if anyone has any tips, please let me know!
In any case, I am so so proud of him! Now onto Trucy...
I've cosplayed Trucy before, but I updated her a bit to go with Mr Hat. I sewed up a new cape (used the old one to make Mr Hat's) and used some glittery iron-on vinyl for the patterns on the diamonds, and added bells so I jingle when I move around!
The dress I found in a charity shop but it initally was a lot longer and much too big for me, so I took it in and up and added the adjustable side-openings + padding on the inside to hide the bumps the belts would make. I made the buttons + the earring from Polymer clay, and the broach with a polymer clay encasing and a resin jewel (which i had to make a mold for. They don't sell em that big)
The bag I also found but sewed fabric over the top to make it look more like Trucy's + added the belt. The neckscarf and Mr Hat's bowtie I completely winged. I stuffed them both plus part of the globes to give everything that cartoonish shape.
I think that's everything. Let me know if you have any questions!

Lup ~ The Adventure Zone
This was a very impulsive cosplay, as I found I couldn't simply cosplay one twin without cosplaying the other, and so it is formed mainly of clothes I had lying around, but I still like how it turned out!

Taako ~ The Adventure Zone
I finally listened to taz balance very recently and it immediately lodged its way into my heart, resulting in a month of crazed sewing (delayed slightly by my obscene prop-making addiction, which I may make a separate post about at some point) until I finished this cosplay!
Oh, and bonus: I found this random skeleton lying around with an umbrella sticking out of it. Weird, right? lmao

As soon as this little guy appeared on screen I knew I had to cosplay them. Moons/stars/suns motifs are my absolute favourite, as are morally dubious, overpowered characters.
Costume
Usually I try to keep my cosplays looking as close to canon as possible, but I decided I wanted to spruce this one up a little more with some beautiful patterned fabric I found from minerva.com
I adapted the pattern from Simplicity 1731A, making it a little less baggy, widening the sleeves, and adapting the edge of the hood pattern into a simple collar. I drew up a hat pattern from one of my hoodies and decided to line it with the purple fabric to make it look a little more professional.
The slippers were made using leftover fabric from the jumpsuit and a pair of cheep slippers I found. I made the pattern by covering the slippers in clingfilm and duct tape and cutting it into panels. I used this tutorial to make the little balls on top and finally lined the bottom with a strip of leather.
The pendant is made with polymer clay and handpainted. I originally tried to make it like a pin badge but decided I wanted it to be bigger. It's actually a broach, with the leather necklace (same stuff I used for the slippers) glued around the collar separately because I wanted it to stay in place.
The wig I styled from the Maru wig in white from coscraft.
To avoid having to paint my arms and legs, i bought some tights in yellow and dark blue. I bought 2 sets of the yellow and used one to create arm socks following the lovely CJ's tutorial which you can find here.
The mask is just cardboard I cut into shape and painted. I stuck tracing paper over the eyes and mouth and lined them with battery powered fairylights. I can't actually see through it, but that's not much of a problem for pictures.
Makeup
I put in contacts before my makeup because I'm not brave enough to do it after. These ones are UV red from uniqso!
For the makeup I blocked out the outer half of my eyebrows before painting my face, neck and ears with a few layers of blue squid pro facepaint in yellow and dark blue. I added some depth back with eyeshadow from my hoard of many pallets, and added some freckles using more facepaint and a toothbrush to speckle them on, white for the blue side and gold for the yellow side. I used liquid eyeliner in matching colours to turn a few freckles into stars, then used the same eyeliner for its intended purpose on my eyes. I had white mascara for the blue side but didnt have any gold for the yellow, so I used brown mascara and then brushed on some gold eyeliner with the edge of the pen. I drew on the eyebrows with a white eyeliner pencil and made them look a bit more natural with white mascara and voila!
I put a lot of work into this and I'm really happy with how it turned out! He was so much fun to cosplay!

Franziska is easily one of my favourite characters in Ace Attorney, so I had to do her justice (and make it perfect ;)), so of course this was one of the most difficult cosplays I've made. I crafted pretty much the whole thing from scratch, and learned a lot about sewing while doing it.
I started with the skirt, as I was right to assume it was the easiest. I used a sewing pattern, edited a little to make it shorter (though not quite as short as Franziska's skirt, I don't have that much confidence). I used stretchy suiting fabric in black as well as black lining.
I took a bit of a shortcut for the shirt; I already had a short puffy sleeved shirt, so I sewed longer sleeves into it. Franziskas sleeves were a bit of a nightmare with the shape, but i used the sleeves from a pattern to get the length right, then a youtube tutorial for cuffs, which i edited to the shape i wanted.
The waistcoat was the most tricky, as the pattern took the most editing. I used this pattern as a base, sticking the pattern pieces to graph paper and redrawing them in the shape I wanted. I pinned the paper together to make sure I had it right before I started with the fabric, the same I'd used for the skirt. I used snap fasteners in place of buttons. My friend eliza painted on the gold lining for me as my hands are a little too unsteady for that.
To be honest, I completely winged it for the bow. I drew out the patterns on paper first to make sure it was right. It's made up of 4 pieces: 2 for the bow, one for the ruffles (I threaded wire through the bottom to get the shape), and one for the fastening, which closes at the back with velcro.
The buttons, cufflinks, earrings and jewel on the bow are all made with polymer clay. I used translucent effect clay for the blue and metalic for the lining around the jewel, all sanded and varnished after baking to make them as smooth as shiny as possible. I stuck them on with hot glue.
Her boots are knee-high, high-heeled leather boots I folded down to created the shape she has.
The gloves are just standard leather ones I bought, which handily work on touch screens.
The whip is actually an Indiana Jones toy (Would not recommend just looking up whips. They are both expensive and you will want to rinse your eyes out. Unless you're into that kind of thing I guess.)
The wig is the Lily wig from coscraft, in the colour storm blue, trimmed into a bob and styled into spikes with got2b hairspray and hair gel.
The makeup was pretty standard all in all, with a fake mole drawn on and a lot of eyeliner and false lashes to make that anime shape.
Overall, I'm really happy with how it turned out and super proud of myself!

It's a lot of fun cosplaying an AU rather than canon; there's a lot more freedom in how you go about things and there's the challenge of incorporating parts of canon to fit the AU. Plus Calcifer is my favourite character in all of studio ghibli so I had a lot of fun as him anyway.
Costume:
The hair is styles from the Maru wig from coscraft in the colour flame red. I was originally going to sew in wefts of other shades to create an ombre effect, but it turned out the colour was created from several shades anyway and I liked how that looked on its own. I tried to style it to look like flames. The wig is very thick and fluffy so this didnt take much effort at all.
This cosplay is mainly focused on the makeup, so I didnt put much thought into the clothing, just wearing colours I thought went with it. In this case a red cardian I wore off my shoulders so it creating a more flowing effect, and an orange tie dyed jump suit, the patterns of which reminded me of flames. I also included a heart-shaped necklace to represent Howl's heart, as well as a few cute little flame-themed accessories i had lying around (earrings and a matching ring). Pointed ears (which i covered in eyeshadow to look a little like flames) and fake fangs made him look more like a demon.
I initially wore orange toned coloured contacts, but unfortunately they broke after only a little time wearing them, so I switched them out for some galaxy toned ones I had lying around. It's hard to see in the picture, but theyre speckled with little stars. I figured this was fitting for Calcifer as he himself was a fallen star, and eyes are the windows to the soul after all.
Makeup:
I used the Afflano coral orange pallete for the majority of this look. It was relatively cheap but still decently pigmented. Though its eyeshadow, I used it mainly for contour and highlights, with red and orange for the shadows and shimmery gold for the highlights, and basically covered my whole face in it. It took a while to get off afterwards but it was worth it. I added freckles in gold eyeliner to be reminiscent of glowing embers, though again they're hard to see in the photos.
Finally, I bought a cushion in the shape of a log, just to carry around and drive home the fact that I'm a walking talking fire. Calcifer does love his logs, after all.
