Sewing doll clothes!!
Tights/fishnets!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tights make any outfit look cool. This is a really easy beginner project. Let’s make some! (I recommend reading through the whole post before starting!!)
Tumblr media
Start by finding the doll you want to make tights for and a roll to plastic/cling wrap. (I’m using a Barbie, but you can use any doll!)
Tumblr media
Cut a small rectangle, enough that you can wrap this around the doll’s leg and have extra on the side
Tumblr media
Get the doll’s leg on the plastic wrap, over to one side. Then, you’re going to fold it over the dolls leg to cover it completely. It should fold like a U, touching but not wrapping around. DO NOT USE THE EXCESS TO WRAP AROUND THE EDGES!!
Tumblr media
Move the excess plastic to the back of the leg (this is where the seam will be when we sew)
Tumblr media
If it helps you, draw a line where the plastic wrap connects to each other. Cut the plastic where your line is
Tumblr media
Take the plastic off the dolls leg and place it on a piece of paper, then trace. It doesn’t have to be perfect, mine is quite lopsided!
Tumblr media
Cut your pattern out!
Tumblr media
(Sorry for the pattern looking like this lmao) fold your pattern in half, then find the half thats smaller. Make a line like the photo above, and cut! Congrats, You will have a symmetrical pattern for doll tights!!
If something doesn’t make sense, just ask! I’m happy to help :))
Part 2 soon bc I hit the photo limit :)

My mouse has her first outfit. She isn't ready for adventuring yet so she got a house dress and apron for helping out with chores.

Early 19th Century Life-Size Articulated Artist's Mannequin - Paul Huot, c. 1800
From the seller, Arnie Barnicoat:
This figure was owned by my late husband John Barnicoat. He was offered her in 1972 when he was head of Falmouth School of Art. She was originally placed on a large wooden stand which we disposed of at the time. This was in 1972. We were both drawn to her as an art object, a life sized ‘doll’, due to the way she was made and we had a true appreciation of her qualities. We always had her seated on a little wooden French antique chair in corners of our various living rooms: From a stone village house in Cornwall to homes in London and Hertfordshire. We named her Muriel after a French film of the same name 1963 directed by Alain Resnais. This makes me wonder if we had been told at the time that she was French. I don’t remember. We have never attempted to renovate her in anyway. Strange as it may seem she was always a ‘member’ of our family and always referred to as ‘Muriel’. It is a wrench to see her leave us.
Based on collection descriptions, it appears that Muriel may have been purchased by the Cambridge University's Fitzwilliam Museum for their exhibition, Silent Partners: Artist & Mannequin, from Function to Fetish.

The motivation for this diorama was to have a suitable setting for my latest interest in dresses, since i started in the hobby i've been more drawn to traditional japanese clothing and contemporary fashion (hence the themes of my past dioramas), though I have admired this style of dresses didn't feel inclined to own them until recently. As for the diorama I took inspiration from Lucy Westenra's estate, as seen in Coppola's Dracula, but I avoided rewatching the movie so i didn't copy or influence the design of my set, so i worked with the idea that i had in my memory, if you see the fifth slide you'll see its quite different and i'm happy about it. The most challenging part of the process was to mix the right colors to achieve the right shades of gray for the Stones of the arch, the walls, the bench and the tiles, this was made as a way to highlight the color of the plants, flowers and grass, as well as the clothes i photograph in it.
