   Pyo family lady-in-waiting
positive/negative traits: POSITIVE: confident, ambitious, hardworking  NEGATIVE: moody, secretive, envious

biography !

Her cries screamed star, wealth and fame. Or more like her parents. She was born to popular singer Lee Jae Kyung and successful businessman Jung Jae Hwa on November 6th 1996. Jung Sung Hwa was surrounded by warmth and love and happy new parents smiling down at her as she slept soundly unaware of many things but content wrapped up in her mothers arms.
Her cries echoed loudly in the big empty house. She was now six years old and her parents were never around. Mom was busy singing and dad was busy negotiating contracts, never seeing each other for more than a few minutes every week. Jung Sung Hwa was surrounded by her stuffed animals and loved them greatly. She named one mom and one dad and kept them with her at all times of the day.
Those cries fell silent as she lied in her bed, trying to hide the noise so grandma wouldn’t hear from outside of her room. Grandma was all she had. Grandma cooked the best food. Grandma gave the best hugs. Grandma surrounded her with warmth and love and cried silently outside Sung Hwa ’s room as she pretended that she couldn’t hear her grandchild cry because she knew Sung Hwa would deny it.
Her cries were loud and happy as she ran out to her grandma waiting out in the car. She would no longer be attending school with the other kids. Her father had made a big deal and it was enough for their family to move somewhere nicer. Little fourteen-year-old Jung Sung Hwa was going to show those kids, show her parents and become something. Something good. Someone good. By selling medical equipment to the Pyo Family, it greatly improved her family life. It was her father's way of surrounding his only daughter by warmth and love in her life to get her smiling again.
Her cries filled with surprise and embarrassment as she was asked to become a lady-in-waiting because of her natural smile and warm personality. She laughed and was thankful for the opportunity of a lifetime. She thanked the Pyo Family for guiding her, and especially thanked her grandma who sat at home bedridden.
Her cries full of anger as they stood inside her room. Father. Mother. She had finally thought she had done something for herself only to be told her parents had lost their jobs for selling used equipment. She felt broken. Sung Hwa no longer wanted to work under the Pyo Family. But she needed to. Grandma needed her the most. Grandma was sick and her parents were not getting a second more of her attention or care.
Her cries weren’t alone that day. Now nineteen years old she cried with her grandma’s friends, cousins, aunts and uncles and whoever else showed up. Grandma couldn’t fight off her cold and it took her quietly in the night as Sung Hwa slept soundly beside her unknowing that would be the last day she was surrounded by her grandma’s warmth and love for the rest of her own life. Sung Hwa was left lonely. Empty. Cold.
Jung Sung Hwa was a sad, lonely and angry child, and she hasn't improved since then. Sung Hwa, sometimes known as Sungie, is the type of person that loves to pretend to be someone that she is not. When hanging around the Pyo daughters, that is when she is the happiest - a bright smile on her face. As she loved everything about royalty and money as a little kid and never was afraid of the spotlight, she still loves it to this day. Until now that hasn’t changed. During public outings with the Pyo Family she is smiling brightly but her answers are mostly simple and she prefers to keep them short. Even though she loves the Pyo daughters, she can't help but start to hate them at times. She believes them to be the reason as to why her family is poor. Sung Haw is really strict and known for her perfectionistic traits. She hates when something is not done perfectly. That is why she never takes a break. She is also really bold and self-centered sometimes, which has bought her mostly negative reactions from other people. If you are her friend though she rarely, if ever shows you her weak side and the fact that she doesn't really know everything.

pyo duke of jeolanam
positive/negative traits: charismatic, confident, natural leader | selfish, manipulative, entitled
biography !
tw: miscarriage
n eldest child in a colossal family known as the Lees, Sanggil was born into a legacy many would not live up to. The pressure of it all was a weight on his shoulders he was constantly reminded of his entire life, and he bore the burden as if it were simply a silk scarf. He was spoiled and pampered every waking and sleeping moment of his childhood, a prodigy could not be left unattended.
At the age of 12 his parents announced yet another pregnancy. At the time Sanggil was very excited to have another brother or sister. One could only enjoy the life of luxury so much when it was spent around a bunch of half-witted brats. The excitement of another sibling possessing similar talents to him was something unparalleled to any other desire the boy had ever had, and the let down was even greater than any disappointment the boy had faced. Five months into the pregnancy the baby was lost, along with any semblance of love his parents had for each other. The miscarriage was simply too hard on his mother. The stress of losing the child along with the loneliness of constantly waiting for Sanggil’s father to eventually come home from work, only to barely see him for an hour before he went out smoking, drinking, partying, and sleeping around, was simply too big a price to pay for a pristine image in the eyes of the public. They separated in secret, and publicly divorced when Sanggil turned twenty, abdicating the dukedom to him upon the announcement of the divorce. The divorce lasted three years, and Sanggil had never felt so alone during that time.
The public scrutiny hardly stopped Sanggil from acting like a duke, though. He had social prowess, and his family name didn’t stop him from climbing the social ladder of the elite and claiming the crown at the top. He seems charismatic and kind on the surface, but deep down he’s really quite selfish. Once gaining respect in the socialite world he looked to other methods in gaining power and reputation. His father continued being a deadbeat, and so Sanggil has been working his way up in the local hospital’s board of investors to take over and save face for the Lees again.
Now there is immense pressure on Sanggil to take a wife, something he doesn’t wish to do for at least another five years. Many have approached him with offers but he always answers with the same thing; let me think about it. Taking a wife is a serious business deal, it could bring him a good fortune and power, or it could leave him being used. He’s careful and watchful now.

about the mun ! name/alias, pronouns, and timezone: Bubble, she/her, EST other charas: Cheng Xiao / Mei reservation password: -- character profile ! faceclaim: your fc’s full name, stagename, and occupation. Lalisa Manoban, Lisa of BlackPink character name: Premwadee “Sunee” Suparat birthdate/age: March 27, 1995, 21 years-old position: Yang Family, Palace Lady
positive/negative traits:
[ + ] Dedicated, Adaptable, Patient, Youthful
[ - ] Secretive, Cynical, Sly subplots: -- biography ! I’ll take care of you.
If something seemed too good to be true, then it probably isn’t, and Premwadee “Sunee” Suparat experienced that firsthand when her “long time boyfriend” ( who wasn’t 23 years-old ) opened the door of his “lavish Gangnam apartment” ( which was more like an extended storage room in the back of a corner convenience store under said apartment building. ) Late fifties. Obese. Smelly. Disgusting. Teeth looked like he ate cigarettes after smoking them. Full time job wasn’t something amazing he promised, but more like preying on much younger girls in hopes to wife them. Sunee was desperate for money, but she had standards, at least.
  What a fool.
Now she was stuck in Seoul with some money to her name, a suitcase and a half of what could get her by and lost in every sense. She couldn’t go back now -- her pride wouldn’t allow it and the money she was given by her suitor wasn’t going to be snatched away from her family’s hands. Back home, they barely skated the bottom layer of “middle class,” and with four mouths to feed excluding herself, she didn’t give a second thought to taking what little was in the bank. ( Sunee didn’t have a problem not eating so her younger twin brothers could have dinner. )
Everything is just fine! Don’t worry about me.
Odd jobs with long hours and being paid under the table became daily life for Sunee while battling the government for proper paperwork to allow her to stay in the country and have a proper job. Apartment fees were insane and far beyond her reach, so she jumped from hostel to hostel weekly until she became close enough to a few girls near her age under similar situations to rent out an officetel on the outskirts of Seoul. Of course it wasn’t ideal but it was leagues ahead being the Queen of the Alley Closet. School wasn’t an option. Working two or three jobs without sleep was killing her soul. ( And she was gaining weight from all the salty, unhealthy but cheap noodles every day. ) It was time to find stability.
You would do anything to pay rent, huh?
Sunee wasn’t bothered to care about the Royal Families, nor she had time to, until an extended connection hinted at an opening to be a Palace lady, or essentially, a fancy maid. She had zero problems cleaning up any types of mess, especially after having to take care of her two twin brothers. ( She actually included that tidbit in her interview. “I’ve seen it all.” Somehow they were convinced she was qualified. ) Cleaning. Scrubbing. Trash. Laundry. Sometimes she even got to deliver food or walk around with a silver tray with champagne at parties, if she was lucky. Anything they wanted her to do, she did without hesitation.
Buy yourself something nice, Mom. You deserve it. extra ! link to open ask box link to open submission box link to muse’s bio page if there is a certain photo you would like us to use for your muse’s acceptance post, feel free to link that here! -- anything else: as always, thank you for all your help!

character profile !
faceclaim: Lee Chaerin / CL / soloist

position:
Citizen. Journalist / Gossip Blogger.
positive/negative traits:
( + ) Determined. Clever. Confident.
( - ) Devious. Secretive. Wild.
subplots: -
biography !
tw: drugs, death
There has never been a moment during Ahri's life where she's had it easy. At least, not in her eyes. From the very beginning, from her birth to a mother who didn't want her with a father who was too tired to care, she'd been on her own. It's a miracle she survived past her childhood.  In fact, the only real reason she had made it was her grandmother. Bless that old woman. She was too stubborn to let her worthless daughter ruin her only chance at a grandchild. So, it was her grandmother that truly took care of her.
By the time she was ten years old, the girl was already proving to be a trouble maker. While her grades were never terrible, her personality seemed to throw most people off. It wasn’t every day where you heard a girl her age say such blunt and truthful things to grownups. Her nature never afforded her many friends around her age; but somehow, older kids seemed to love her. Older kids who seemed to enjoy nothing more than encouraging her to do things that none of them should have been doing. From skipping school, to smoking behind buildings, and to running around the streets and just causing general mischief, Ahri seemed to rarely take anything seriously.
Of course, it changed just slightly the day she found her mother unconscious on the floor after coming home from school one day. She knew instantly that drugs had finally taken her mother too far but she called the emergency number anyway, seeming to calmly explain that her mother wasn’t responding. The police found her sitting in front of her home just ten minutes later, with a book open and just reading. They asked where her father was and she just shrugged; it’d been about a year since she’d heard from him and she hadn’t thought much about it.
She moved into her grandparents’ home that day. Taking the few meager things she owned from where she had grown up and moving them into what had been her mother’s old room (ironically). By then, she was fifteen and her grandmother was determined to get her back on the straight and narrow. She strictly enforced Ahri going to school, compromising with her teenage tantrums about freedom by saying that if she kept her grades up, then she could do as she wanted (within reason) outside of school. Naturally, she took this as a challenge and excelled at school once again.
And with that, her new reign began. A new group of friends was made. Ones who seemed to hate everyone and everything about those who were “better” than them. The members of the three royal families seemed to be their biggest target of hate. Seeing them as privileged and too wealthy for their own good, the group frequently bad mouthed them amongst themselves. Never stupid enough to speak their annoyances aloud yet. But the distaste grew.
Over time, it seemed Ahri found something she was good at, besides being more trouble than she was worth (per her grandmother). Writing seemed to flow naturally out of her and she quickly became interested in the idea of being a writer for magazines. She even joined the school newspaper the last two years of her education. Much to the surprise of both grandparents, she applied to multiple universities and even got accepted into a few of them. In the end, she picked one that would get her closest to what she wanted to do.
Twenty-one and she’s graduated, managing to get a job right out of school writing gossip blurbs in some online magazine. Gossip is something she finds that she’s also good at. And let’s not forget, with a press pass, she gets to places that she would have never gotten before. Though, of course, in this case, its not to very many places. Not to the places she REALLY wants to go.
So, she works. She works hard to get attention. She makes other places want her writing. Her personality. Her point of view. Most importantly, they want her information. Before she knows it, she’s twenty-three and working at one of the most popular magazines available. It’s not exactly a news-oriented magazine; in fact, it was quite celebrity oriented. At first, it bothered her that she needed to seem more positive when it came to speaking about royals. But soon she realized, that with her connections, she got to learn a whole lot more than what she got to report.
Now she has connections. She’s in the “In Crowd”. Mingling with the best and worst. Royalty means nothing to her and with her press pass, she gets to see them a lot more than her younger self would have ever liked. But she thrives on it now. Still… there are things that she finds out. Things that are too juicy to hold back.
Thus, formed her little… side job. You could call it gossip again. But it was more vicious. Another e-magazine pops up seemingly overnight. It grows and grows before it becomes the talk of most who are obsessed with the royal-celebrities. Secrets are leaked. Rumors started. Pictures taken. The name beneath most of these things are always the same. Alice.
Now Ahri lives her double life. Living it up with the rich and famous and simultaneously destroying them bit by bit. It’s not that she takes joy in thi-… no. It is. She takes joy in it. She likes bringing them down to human level. Making people see that they aren’t meant to be worshiped. That they were just like everyone else. Or sometimes worse.

about the mun !
name/alias, pronouns, and timezone: AJ, she/her, PST
other charas: N/A
reservation password: winbell
character profile !
faceclaim: Lee Luda, member of wjsn/Cosmic Girls.
character name: Chae Minhee
birthdate/age: 01/24/1997; 20 years old.
Position: Civilian; Baker’s granddaughter
Positive traits: Loyal, Headstrong, Resourceful
Negative Traits: Stubborn, Quick-tempered, Blunt
subplots: Long Live the King
biography !
Triggers: Death mention; gambling mention
I. Little girl, dressed in florals, twirling around as if she had the whole world in her hands. At the age of four, there was nothing for her to fear and there was nothing she could ask for that she hadn't already received. But in the eyes of a child, reality was not always what it seemed. And as she danced and danced to the silent music, her parents would look on through the dirty glass window that framed the side of the elderly couple’s bakery and home. “ Grandfather?” her chime-like voice had asked, curious as to why her grandmother was crying and her parents had left without a single word. No more was needed to be said, because in immediate response, her grandfather would say: “ Child, you are no longer for your parents’ to call their own. Now, you are with us. ”
II. Her grandparents were too old to handle a wild spirit like Minhee, but their neighbors would say that they raised her well. They put her to work in their bakery, running errands and doing deliveries when needed, and while the young girl complained --- she did it all. At only eight years old, she was doing things that were unimaginable for children her age and her rueful gaze every time one of her peers ran past the bakery window during a game of tag made it clear that she was not happy. Where were her dolls? Where were her mother to take her dress shopping? More importantly, where was her childhood? She was much too young to be thinking like this and her grandparents --- her dear grandparents --- knew it well. This wasn’t the life they had wanted for her, of course. But this was the life her gambling parents chose.
III. And so Minhee sought acceptance in her own little way. At only thirteen years old, she was taken home by authorities and she had to witness her grandmother beg for forgiveness in her stead. She remembers hating it --- hating how weak her so-called guardians were, but nonetheless, she knelt down so that her elderly grandmother wouldn’t need to anymore. She had gotten away that night, after having fought with another young boy down the street --- one who called her ‘unwanted’ and ‘orphaned.’ One who knew nothing about her and tried to claim his accusations to be the truth.
IV. The following day, Minhee saw her grandfather make his rounds through the neighborhood but he didn’t get home until late into the night. Grandmother said he was running errands. However, when little Minhee went outside to face the harshness of the world again, she would realize something: no jeers or dark remarks were made in her direction. Chae Minhee was no longer referred to as an ‘abandoned’ loser amongst her peers. Her grandfather had delivered baked goods in her name and so she was now endearingly known as ‘the cake girl.’ She would much rather be invisible.
V. After yet another year filled with her misbehaviors, her grandmother bought her a dress for the final time with the last of her savings. Minhee wouldn’t know it then, but the woman had chosen the finest and most expensive out of all the stores they could afford because she wanted her granddaughter to change from a hot-tempered girl into a level-headed woman.
Minhee only wished she could have done that for her sooner. It has already been nearly four years since Moon Minyoung’s passing.
VI. At twenty years of age, Chae Minhee wants nothing more than to be who she was meant to be. She wants to be serene, calm and thoughtful like the girls around her. She wants to be adored by everyone around her for more than her baking and….and yet she was still full of the same resentment from when she was four years old. Minhee was good, but she showed it in a bad way. Her grandfather --- now 82 years old --- knew it as well and he didn’t try to tame her. She was who she was and while she doted on him like a loving grandchild, he was well aware of the fact that her sharp tongue and strong-will may some day be her own demise.
This wasn’t the life her grandparents wanted for her. But this was the life she chose for herself.

biography !
death mention
white day. she is born to a pair of loving parents who dote on her with every fiber of their being. her mother has a soft face, with eyes filled with a kindness that is much too uncharacteristic of this world. her father is a gentle man with grease stained fingers. he does not know how to handle such a fragile being though he does his best, even with such rough hands. they are jiyeon’s light in the dark, her safety, her everything. they are the perfect little family, even if they do not have wealth or status.
there are no other song children for her to play with. mother never fully recovered from the damage that jiyeon did to her body. despite this, her childhood is anything but lonely. they do their best to spoil the only child with what little they have. mother teaches her at home, scared of the corruption that others might instill on such a precious ray of light. along with mathematics she learns how to cook the meals father likes just right, how to scrub a mildew stain until it gleams. her father teaches her how to pull technology apart and put it back together, better than new. jiyeon takes to this like a bee might to nectar. mother is miffed, though she cannot keep her daughter from something she loves. she takes after her father, a second mechanic in the song family.
their perfect little life comes to a screeching halt, faster than sixteen year old jiyeon can comprehend. mother has been sick for a while now, with jaundicing skin and sinking cheeks. her eyes that once used to hold the light of a thousand suns now seem dull, lackluster, empty. the doctors call it terminal. jiyeon calls it betrayal. she does not stick around long enough to hear the diagnosis of less than a month left to live.
she barely has a chance to say goodbye.
and she hates mother for it. she hates that she did not stick around long enough to see her first kiss, her first date, her first broken heart. she hates that mother doesn’t get to see her graduate, and that she has to hear the muffled and broken sobs of her father when he thinks she’s finally fallen asleep. she hates that the doctors did nothing to save her. but most of all, jiyeon hates that she has to say goodbye at all.
she needs someone to blame and someone to hate. the most practical option, of course, are the doctors.
everyone deals with grief in different ways, and the only song child is no different. she channels her sorrow into the only thing she knows how. there are cars to be fixed and parts to be sold - she only needs to take those cars (it is an illegal practice, but jiyeon cannot bring herself to care. it provides the only distraction strong enough to keep her from spiralling). however, it is only a matter of time before such toxic ways of dealing gets caught. father, despite drowning in the depths of his despair, cannot take away the chance of a good life free of complication. he takes the fall, and faces five years in prison on bail that she cannot afford.
song jiyeon is well and truly alone.
and so she decides, with a fire in her heart, that she must atone for her anger and her grief. her father, to the very end, has spoiled her. it is her turn now. she works, and works, and works, until there is not an article of clothing she owns that doesn’t have a grease stain. jiyeon works until her finger scream. she works fairly, she works honestly, she works hard -- until her pockets are full and her father can come home. he seems different, more frail than he used to be. her mistakes weigh on him. so jiyeon cries, and she begs for his forgiveness. father places a kiss upon her forehead and tells her one thing. i am proud of you.
he is an old man now, with weak fingers and even weaker knees. grey hairs pepper the sides of his temples. it is her turn to spoil him. song jiyeon cooks the meals mother used to make him, hums his favourite lullabies, and works until her fingers scream.

The young aristocrat going to France’s best schools from primary to tertiary levels. For the best deserved the best. And she excelled at it, Riah able to perform the most famous and difficult pieces of Beethoven, Mozart, and other well known classical greats. Act II Riah often liked the genre but soon found her love in jazz. The soulful music carrying her to a place creatively that classical never seemed to do. japanese ambassador to korea
positive/negative traits: (+) passionate, ambitious, independent ; (-) selfish, impatient, reckless
subplots: none
biography !

one. risa is a born entertainer even as an infant, and she displays this best as she laughs from her mother’s arms. she learns to speak earlier than most children, words bubbling out of her mouth even if they make no sense. she’s the very picture of a talkative girl, chatting away at everyone and everything. but she’s a happy child, and she always thought that was the most important part.
two. she lives in a big house with house staff, surrounded by everything she could ever ask for, every toy and dress and people to look after her if ever she was to fall. but too early she learns the implications of it all. her parents are never around, and milestones are something that can afford to be missed if your job is more important. and somehow, their jobs were always more important than the little girl at home with no one to accompany her.
three. but it’s not all bad, because early enough she realizes that minimal parental guidance means more freedom, and she takes it as a signal to do whatever she wants, whenever she wants. nights are never spent in her home, as big and beautiful as it is. it’s spent outside, making friends that she shouldn’t, being in places that a girl like her should never find herself. but risa sees a certain beauty in it all, and it attracts her like a seducing voice, so much that she never really sees the bad in it.
four. it only goes on for so long before she’s found out, and her parents have better things to do than let their daughter ruin a budding political career. so she’s sent to korea to make something of herself, given a flimsy title and shipped off on an airplane. she would be surprised if it wasn’t so typical of them.
five. she finds her newfound life somewhat fun, if only because there’s even less guidance here than anywhere else. and she takes it all in stride, because one girl with the entire city at her fingertips never sounds like a bad thing.

character name: yang jinho
birthdate/age: jul 1, 1997
position:
5th yang son
positive/negative traits:
+ quirky, open-minded, calm
- detached, apathetic, lackadaisical
subplots:
biography !
please list any triggers here!
i.
people exclaim at the news that a 5th yang son is going to be born-- the first biological once since the last two adoptions, and it’s a pretty big deal. he’s showered by affection and gifts upon his birth, knowing nothing but the life of luxury and extravagance from there on out.
...but he’s just another one of your typical ‘birth of a royal prince’ stories; there’s nothing particularly special or new about his arrival into the world-- at least, nothing that the country hasn’t already seen with all the royal births that came before him.
and that’s how jinho grows up-- seated firmly at the lap of luxury with a silver spoon in his mouth, a life worth the envy of the masses. but what else can one expect from living the life of a prince?
his days are filled with studies, etiquette training, and other more physical training-- stuff that would shape him up to fit in with the royal family’s image-- and for the most part, jinho enjoyed them. naturally curious, he excelled in his studies, often found in the library with his nose buried in some book even after study sessions are over. he enjoys physical training as well-- he’d taken a liking to taekwondo, even placing himself in competitions and actually winning, not just because of his name but because of his skill-- that was something he was really proud of.
ii
but a life filled with glitz and glamour everyday loses its novelty real fast, and when you grow up in an environment like jinho’s where everyone can give you anything and everything that you want at a moment’s notice, you start to lose your appreciation for things. he’s got all the toys, all the gadgets, all the resources, all the money to spend on whatever he wants. he’s ran out of stuff to ask for a long time ago.
he grows tired of ‘acting proper’ as the days go on, gets tired of upholding the heavy burden of the family image-- one he’d never even asked to be a part of. he’s the 5th son in line for the throne and he’ll probably never even get a chance to wear the crown-- but he’s okay with that. he thinks he probably wouldn’t be able to carry such a heavy responsibility on his shoulders anyway; he doesn’t want to.
he doesn’t understand why everyone’s pining over the hardest job there is in the kingdom. his achievements by far pale in comparison to his other brothers’, not that he minds all too much until he gets reprimanded for it. the better his image upholds, the more expectations come barging at him-- he definitely prefers his life this way: a life where expectations run low, even though it’s within his ability to compete with his other, more successful brothers.
he even stops competing in taekwondo tournaments, much to everyone’s dismay. it’s too much attention-- attention he doesn’t want, attention that’s probably better off reserved for others who want it more.
he already has everything he wants in life, and then some. and he’s never been greedy so he never asks for more-- after all, what can you give someone who already has everything?

royal court member: hyun lady-in-waiting.
positive/negative traits:
positive: strong-willed, protective, compassionate.
negative: stubborn, competitive, distant.

biography !
no triggers.
just like her namesake, miran was considered a beauty among her family and peers. although she was nowhere close to being royalty, her poise and grace was just as alluring as any known court lady or princess. but even a rose, despite its sweet smell and fragile elegance, will always have thorns on its stems.
the cheon family is regarded as the most renown militia family under the yang monarchy. with generations of cheon men serving under the yang rule, it was only expected that children of the general would follow suit. however, it wasn't expected for miran to follow her family's livelihood. Being the eldest child and daughter, the family expected miran be all the things a lady should be; polite, generous, mild-mannered, and obedient. ironically, they expected all of the traits that she wasn't.
miran never truly appreciated that fact that she was basically being told to play a certain role in life. this forced her to take her destiny into her own hands and reject any expected ideal of her -- even if it meant creating riffs with her own family. every day, she did her best to prove to them that she could do the same things as her younger twin brother, mingyu. unfortunately, her goals and awards were always overshadowed by her twin all because of their difference in gender. their father's evident favoritism didn't help the case either.
miran was always given the stricter punishment between the two siblings whether it was being unable to play a piano piece properly or holding the proper stance to punch a sand bag. thus becoming jealous and distancing herself from her own twin brother, miran created a rift between her and her brother purposely.
by the age of sixteen, miran had enough with the strict family lifestyle and the favoritism in her household so much that she packed her bags and left home. she took whatever she could carry on her on and didn't even bother saying goodbye. hidden in plain sight, miran gathered the help from and lived with one of the house staff that worked with her family. she needed time and a place to stay for bit before situating herself with the outside world -- away from all the riches and power.
miran felt out of her luck for a while as she knew she couldn’t keep living off of her “guardian’s” property for long, so the house staff suggested that she work for the hyun royal family as their maid as they were hiring for new helping hands. of course, miran, much to her chagrin, agreed to the job. there was no point of her being a housemaid for the yang family when there was such a high chance of running into her family. once again packing her bags and leaving, miran set out to live with the house staff of the hyun family.
at first, miran had trouble with the job, but nonetheless, her competitive spirit continued to strive to be the best, allowing her to gain some recognition among the king and queen of the hyun family household. after working with the family for about a year, miran had heard rumors spreading among the staff that the eldest first princess was returning from studying abroad. in honestly, miran thought she was just going to be a regular housemaid when their majesties spoke to her about keeping their eldest daughter company as her lady-in-waiting. they had both told her that she is at the actual age of their daughter and they thought it would be best that the first princess had someone, who was at a similar age, to confide in.
to miran, it was such a high honor that she couldn’t accepted. she deemed herself unfit for the role since she didn’t have experience compared to the many others who were much more capable. of course, the offer was still open to her if she ever wanted to accept the job. since the job offer still stood for her, miran thought about it very hard for about a month before accepting the role as the princess’s new lady-in-waiting.
with their eldest princess home, miran had ran into a bit of a trouble with her highness, but overtime the two settled their differences. now being her lady-in-waiting for the last ten years, miran has dedicated her life in serving her princess.

+ dignified, maternal, wise
- vulnerable, reserved, melancholic

trigger warnings: mentions of underage sex, teenage pregnancy, abortion, depression & anxiety.
she was their first child, a special child as she was the crown princess of the hyun kingdom. her parents were ecstatic when she was born, showing her off to their people merely weeks after her birth. they held a grand party and the mansion was filled with laughter and coos of adoration for the infant princess. they expected great things from their future queen and her parents couldn’t be more proud.
she was a beautiful child. from the moment she was introduced to the public eye, everyone spoke of the crown princess’ beauty and grace. even at a young age, she had the charms that a princess was expected to have but came naturally as she grew older. she was able to entertain guests, behave during formal events, speak modestly and appropriately, and stand with her head tall. she was getting the education and support that she needed and she knew her role front and back. hyun yeona wanted nothing more than to fulfill her duties as the first princess and back then, she had truly believed that nothing would keep her from doing so.
she was sixteen when she had committed a grim mistake. she had fallen in love with a boy not much older than her and believed that he was the love of her life. they had snuck around her parents back and he had whispered sweet nothings that he would give her the world. but if only she wasn’t so naive and in love, she would have been able to see through the false promises from the very beginning. he had taken her innocence and left her with a reminder that she didn’t want.
she was afraid and confused, terrified as her parents looked at her with disappointing frowns and cold eyes. she had told them that she was pregnant after taking multiple at-home tests that she had forced one of the elder palace ladies to buy in discretion. she didn’t know what to do and had come to her mother for some comfort and guidance. but instead, hyun yeona had received a hard slap across the cheek and was brought into audience with her father. and only able to say that she was sorry over and over again, her parents sent her abroad with a caretaker with the instructions to have the fetus aborted. they couldn’t have a sinning daughter become queen so with a little damage control, it was soon revealed that the crown princess would study aboard in the states for two years, only to return in the summer after she turned eighteen.
she wasn’t the same when she returned to south korea after two years. the liveliness that was once in her eyes had grown dull and the stunning smile that she was famous for had grown faint and forced. for the last two years, all she had been carrying was guilt. although she was too young and in no position to have a child of her own, the crown princess felt an overwhelming sense of guilt for allowing a life to end before it even had a chance to live. it took a toll on her not only emotionally, but psychologically as well -- forcing the princess to seek professional help under the guardianship of her caretaker while she was overseas. but now that she has returned, yeona knew well enough that she not only had to earn back her parents’ trust and love, but also her worth as crown princess.
nine years later --
she has regained the lost respect from her parents after dedicating her all to her studies as both an individual and a princess. from university to etiquette and to culture courses, hyun yeona had restricted herself from a personal life to become the perfect ruler -- a princess who is educated, wise, and emotionally-contained. however, this lifestyle has made her distant, almost aloof.
although she is the eldest, she finds it difficult to relate to her younger sisters although she tries in her own littler ways. but because she’s afraid of them knowing the truth of her past and the mistakes she has made (seeing as they were so young back then), she keeps herself at an arms length -- not wanting to ruin their idea of her. after all, she would much rather have them hate her for being distant than have them hate her for what she had done. regardless, yeona loves her sisters dearly and wants what’s best for them even if it’s not her place to wish for it.
now, hyun yeona now lives her days prepping to take over her father’s place. with only so many years left until her father’s decided abdication, yeona has to keep her image spot clean and perfect, all while hiding her inclining anxieties and waves of depression.

biography !
brief mention of living in an orphanage.
( i. ) the beginning of ara’s life is a bit of a mystery to her. her memories don’t really start until she was around five or six years old. anything before that seemed to only exist as a blur in her mind. like a silent movie that had been sped up to the point where nothing was really visible. where she came from and who her real parents were are empty facts in her mental biography though she never seemed to be bothered by it. she’s always surrounded by other kids her age, but she can’t remember their names. definitely can’t remember their faces. all she knows is that she’s lonely. sad and lonely.
( ii. ) it changes one day in December. the world suddenly springs to life around her as a woman with the kindest eyes and the brightest smile comes to visit her at the orphanage. suddenly, she’s waiting all the time for her visits. happily talking and playing and enjoying the attention that she’d never really experienced before.  before she knows it, there’s talk about coming to live with this woman. ara is more excited than she ever felt she could be. of course, she says yes!
( iii. ) a few months later and she’s brought to her new home. there isn’t a moment when she feels pressured to call this woman her mother. but she does. instantly. her new home always smells like vanilla. her mother bakes, she finds out. everything is warm and gentle. it’s like a dream. but a dream that she can remember. her world is perfect now.
( iv. ) by the time she was thirteen, she’s now baking as well. you could even say that it’s sort of her life. together, they wake up at five am every morning and head downstairs to their bakery; after all, everything must be prepared and ready for when they open at eight. after all is done, she heads off to school, not coming home usually until very late. she never complains. her mother has given her a life that most kids from her position would dream of. ara works diligently, even coming up with new recipes to showcase alongside her mother’s tried and true creations. they’re the best kind of team.
( v. ) the bakery does well. better than one would think. there have even been cases where one of the royals have asked for things to be made for them. a true honor in her mother’s eyes, and to ara, her wonder regarding the royal families only continues to grow with each new order they get. when she’s lucky, she goes along to deliver them too. amazement fills her each time she gets a peak at how they live. she would have been lying if she didn’t dream of being able to live in such wonderful places.
( vi. ) she turns nineteen but she’s not as happy. the one person in the world that truly matters to her gets sick. mom starts by just being tired all the time. the doctors aren’t sure what’s going on. but ara knows she has to keep the bakery running in order to pay for her mother’s medical bills. university is now put on the back burner, despite her mother’s protests. ara takes to running the bakery all on her own. her mother needs to rest and get better; though she can’t help but smile every time her mother comes down to check on things, despite how she shouldn’t be on her feet.
( vii. ) with her mother’s blessing, she hires two other people to help her in the bakery. she’s grateful that the store seems to continue to have loyal customers and big orders from royals. it’s those big orders that keep her mother’s bills paid and she is sure to always make sure to have everything perfect. her deliveries stay on time; always brought by her, no matter how busy things are. if there’s one thing she can’t risk, its losing the royals as customers.
( viii. ) so that’s how she lives. busy as can be. running back and forth. but she’s happy, for the most part. her mother seems to be getting better. the bakery is thriving. her heart is full. she doesn’t have time to do things that most people her age do, but she’s okay with that. mostly. ara tries to not think much about it, but every now and again, she allows herself to day dream. wondering what life would be like if she lived in one of those fancy homes, with no worries, being able to almost do as she pleases. it’s a dream that she can’t afford to linger on, but it’s a nice one none the less.

biography !
trigger warning: allusions to depression.
i. | you grew up as an only child, but your life wasn’t supposed to be that way. for a brief time in your life, you had a mother and a twin brother, but something had gone wrong during the final moments of the birthing process, leaving you and your father to be the only members of your family to leave the hospital that sunny june morning. the family unit had gone from being two to four, and in a span of a few hours that unit was once again back to two. even with all the wealth your parents had in the world, there was no price that your father could pay to neither turn back time nor bring your two lost loved ones back.
when the both of you had left the hospital, your father vowed that he would do anything in his power to protect you, which is all he had left in this world.
ii. | while your father tried to make your childhood as enjoyable as possible, there was simply no way that he could protect you from everything. it was the reason he proposed the idea of forcing their son into an arranged marriage with his daughter to the pyo king and queen, who were both long time friends with his beloved wife. the pyos’ would gain more political support from incheon and its people, as well as power over the land if you bore a child, while in turn incheon would stay supported and dasom would have both more financial and medical support than you would ever need. her father presumed this would be a fool-proof plan, and truly it was, but even with all the financial, medical and physical protection that you would gain, you couldn’t be protected from the emotional pain you would endure as you continued to age.
iii. | as the only successor to the ahn family lineage, there was a lot of pressure to be perfect as the duchess-to-be, but you certainly put on a smile and kept your brave face on despite the large weight that was placed upon your shoulders since birth. you weren’t even supposed to inherit the role of a duchess, but no one else knew that except for you and your father. to everyone else, you were born first, your twin brother following behind before he unfortunately passed away. the only reason you even tried so hard to ensure that you’d make the best duchess you could was so that your twin brother and your mother would be looking down on you, smiling at your success and cheering you on instead of being disappointed.
it was all you ever wanted, but you’d never know if you’d get it.
iv. | although you were only a distant relative of the hyuns, your family’s love for technology didn’t cease to fade as you enrolled into seoul national university, double majoring in computer science as well as political science. you did whatever you could to keep your reputation crystal clear, while also being 100% true to who you were with everything you did. by following the political science pathway, it showcased that you were serious about your role as a future duchess, and by going through with computer science you were also displaying your interest in technology, which you were always curious of since you were a child. the people of incheon viewed you as responsible and reputable, which only bettered your name and relationship with them.
v. | what you weren’t expecting, however, was for the role of duchess of incheon to be passed to you so quickly. just months after your twenty-third birthday, long after you had graduated with degrees in both computer science and political science, your father had forfeited the role of duke due to him falling ill, having to be hospitalized and unable to fulfill his duties. with a heavy heart, you accepted your new role. the news of your father’s hospitalization caused created a buzz throughout incheon, as people began fearing that you, too, would soon become ill just like the rest of your family.
while you had proved to be perfectly healthy time and time again, the worry still lingered and there was nothing you could do to rid the people of that fear.
vi. | while you put up a triumphant front, your heart was weak. you had your own growing fear that your father would never end up well, and that only added to the stress of ensuring you could do the best you could to make everyone around you proud. involuntarily forced to be strong, your heart broke more and more as anxieties piled on top of you, the weight on your shoulders increasingly becoming heavier as days based. people liked to think you were some kind of strong, female role model with all the accomplishments you had under your belt, but even the toughest people had their weaknesses and you seemed to be hitting your wits end quicker and quicker.
but for everyone around you, that broken side of you that you couldn’t ignore every time you stared into the mirror, had to be covered up with a mask. it was for the best.
vii. | it’s now 2017, and while your father was now in stable condition, his health status was subject to change every now and then. whenever your schedule was piled with events and meetings you couldn’t miss, sometimes your father would have a scare which only worsened your crestfallen emotions even more with every waking moment that you couldn’t be with him. you’re handling a province, your father’s health and your own sanity at the moment, but there’s only so much you could take. now that you were nearing the age of thirty, king and queen pyo are pushing your marriage, which only adds onto the stress you already have. life is moving too fast and you’re trying your best to keep up; but still, you’re not made of steel and everything still hurts.
viii. | there’s only so much you could do all at once, and it’s becoming easier and easier to listen to the voices in your head, pulling you into the darkness, shoving you closer and closer to your breaking point. will you make it out alive?

biography !
please list any triggers here!
she should have been born to a different family.
she’s known this from when she was young, from the moment she could understand what it meant for the people to chant, to shout her name to the skies - princess noyna.
how unseemly it would appear if she wasn’t grateful. there are few that enjoy the privileges that royalty do, after all, and she certainly does make use of the benefits given to her. but no, that’s not what she means when she understands this life isn’t meant for her.
noyna was born for this, wears saccharine elegance and grace better than anyone, more princely than her brothers, more clever, more charming, more ambitious.  what she wants though, is not what she gets. for she is not the queen, she is not even her daughter - no, she is niece to their king, the youngest child of his next brother, and as far removed from the throne in the family as one can be, separated from it by rank, by age, by gender. she enjoys the benefits of the palace, grows up alongside her cousins, reaps the benefits that are thrown at their feet and this-
for the longest time she tells herself this is enough. in her heart, she knows it never will be but she tries.
she doesn’t resent her cousins, her eldest, the crown prince. they never asked to be born to their position, the same way she didn’t ask for her. but she wants, wants so badly what they have, wants to sit on the throne that is promised to them, so close yet always forever out of reach. time passes and she grows apart from her cousins, duty pulling them away from her. but it’s no matter - by the time she’s completed high school, bidding her private tutors and teachers good bye, she’s already winning the hearts of the people, representative to an endless list of ngo’s, speaking to their wants, their needs.
royalty, she might be- holding that elusive title, that ever assumed charm. but her youth, her kindness, her beauty (well, an added touch here or there), makes it all the easier to win them over.
she might never have the throne, but she has the people. her brothers will rise in positions that will never be open to her, but she has her own. at times, it seems selfish - to desire so greatly what must be stolen, and her heart aches for it. she doesn’t want to steal from her cousins. distant they may be, they are her family.
noyna is loyal to a fault, it seems, for not everyone shares the same sentiments she does.
perhaps it’s because her mother is a foreigner. perhaps its because she’s will never even be close to ascending the throne. or perhaps its because of jealousy - she always suspects, she always saw the resentment with which her uncle looked at her - that she’s engaged to a foreign prince. a political union it is on the front, but it means she’s going to be sent away. to live in a foreign land, far from her people, to serve a new population that hardly knows her at all. she is meant to be forgotten.
perhaps, just once, just for now - it is alright to let her anger fester.
what has she ever done to be thrown away like this? to be cut off like a tumor? her people bid her good bye, a million tears and waving hands, desperate for a glance at real royalty before she’s wiped from their memories, replaced with shining images of the real heirs, parading coronation in front of them all.
she holds back her words, bite her tongue to keep her resentment to herself.
she’s a princess, she reminds herself. she must wave, must smile, even with her mouth full of blood.

no one knows who the child on the doorstep is, nor where they came from.
he is rather young - only a few years older than a toddler - but his eyes betray someone far, far older; they are dulled by decades of years and jaded by a loss that has trailed behind him since birth. a frail creature, he was. a delicate little thing that lay, curled up, on the doorstep, drenched with the sky’s tears and so fragile, so light, that it looked like it would fly away with the wind if it blew hard enough.
he takes only short, quiet breaths to keep the bruises on his body from letting the earth swallow him whole and sink him six feet under, his voice having fled from his broken soul. (even now he still does, because even when they’re long gone and faded, he knows that in his dreams they never will be.)
it only takes a single glance for the housekeeper to whisk him away, with his broken wings and equally broken ribs, into the mansion once they open the door. there is no thought as to what would happen and where he would go after this, but nevertheless, he spends the rest of his pained sleep with the hurt covered in bandages and treated with a foreign, loving touch that brings his own tears into reality.

no one knows why the child refuses to speak, nor why they seem so set on pushing themselves to the brink of starvation.
he is small and bony, with limbs that are uncomfortably lanky due to lack of use and tangled, matted hair - a stray cat. he sinks in the new set of clothing he has been given to wear in the place of his original rags, and takes only three spoonfuls of anything he eats, no matter how warm and enticing it may look.
the little boy is a stubborn soul. he sits on the bed and hugs his legs to his chest while tilting his head towards the open window, watching as the clouds enshroud the world in a cold darkness without fail. he answers only in soft, fragmented phrases that do little to explain his origin and current existence; in fact, he seems to know almost little to nothing about himself - his age, his birthday, hell, even his own parents are but lost memories.
the only question he can seem to answer is responded to with a muted, gentle, “cho hyung-gyu”.
the servants later meet to discuss in hushed whispers how the head of the household had issued that the boy, hyung-gyu’s, origins would be traced, yet for all the advanced machinery and technology they possessed, none of them could seem to find any matching record or any parents in the area looking for their lost children.
not knowing what to do with him, yet not wanting to send him to an orphanage where he might suffer from the same cruel hands that had almost brought him death, they did the next thing that came to mind.
(little did they know, he had simply happened to catch a name on one of the many crumpled business cards within the alcohol-stained pockets of his father’s coat. he doesn’t remember what his original title had been, but it was all right. he had hated it, anyways.)

for as long as he could remember, hyung-gyu was raised being held at a distance, albeit with care and something that he could swear was pretty damn close to love.
he is nurtured in the hyun household as a moody and tight-lipped outsider, as something akin to a charity case - the royal family is applauded as benevolent and charitable for taking in a poor, tortured infant with no family and relations rather than letting them die out in the unforgiving outside world. the fact that he had been morphed into nothing but a pretty puppet meant to be shown off in the eyes of the media eats away at the male like a parasite, breeding and placing a bitter view of the world over his eyes, and for the first time in his short life, he wishes to be something.
the desire to be considered of worth hangs over his childhood thickly, and he spends his days slowly asphyxiated by his own expectations.

hyung-gyu first breaks on a humid day in the summer, in an elementary school teeming with uppity, spoiled rich kids.
he had stuck out like a sore thumb - he was not of royal blood, or of any kind of substantial blood, really. he was, in their eyes, a normal child, an alien. so perhaps it was not too farfetched for him to find himself in the principal’s office with a broken-nosed student and a pair of angry guardians.
how dare this [filthy, low class] boy hurt their precious son? he hears those words, and resists the temptation to roll his eyes and land himself in an extra day of detention.
he nurses his slightly sore knuckles, and recalls the other male’s snide expression and filthy mouth, and as he mutters out a bland, clearly unapologetic apology, the boy admits to himself that he didn’t regret his actions, not one bit. the feeling of ramming your fist against a complete and utter simpleton’s face was quite satisfying, and in all honesty, they had it coming.
strangely enough, he does not hear of the incident again, only being given a few days of suspension, when he probably should have been expelled, considering that he touched much more than a hair of - to put it figuratively - living money. (now that he thought about it, he suspects that there had been a few negotiations made on part of the family.)
at home, he is pulled aside and chastised thoroughly before being given a chance to provide his motives. the only answer he gives is a single sentence:
“they were shit talking the family.”

there is an unspoken strength that flows through his veins and thrives at his very core, an elegance that gives his feet something almost like flight, and in them he regrows a few feathers. hyung-gyu is far from the scrawny, pathetic little boy he was years ago, and never does he plan to return to that sorry state.
he is independent now; he lives in his own apartment a ways away from the hyun household, but the thread that ties him to what he almost dares to call his own family is just as strong if not sturdier. it is time for him to repay them, now, and he willingly dedicates himself to a life revolving around other lives, for although he was trusted, he would never quite be one of them.
he still speaks and treads on the earth lightly, however, for he has yet to prove himself.
but oh, is he growing ever closer.

biography !
underneath there are triggers of pregnancy and mentions of drugs, alcohol and sex.
when a baby is born they let out their first cry of life. their mother is there to soothe their cries with the caress of her hands. unlike the majority of newborns, this wasn’t the case for little zhou xiang. the day he arrives into this world, dark clouds drift through the sky and droplets of rain drizzle down from above, as xiang welcomes the world with an ear piercing cry. his mother was in a fit of rage, as she endured the pain of giving birth to her sweet baby boy. though once her baby starts to cry and fret, aching for her touch, she merely gives him a fainting glance. she’s disgusted at the sight of her own child. the sharpness of her voice rose each time, over and over again, begging the doctors to keep her away from her newborn son. who could blame her after all. she was a child who had just given birth to a child herself. at the mere age of fifteen his mother raised in the fine silks of gold and riches had tainted the family reputation — by giving birth to him — a child she never wanted. as his mother is pushed away to another room, xiang lets out one last cry before a blissful slumber takes over, and this time it’s a cry aching for love.
five months passed as the newborn is settled into his new home — the arms of his grandmother, or as he calls her mother. to her, he’s the zhou’s newest family pride and joy. the woman knows her daughter wants nothing to do with the boy, and even though xiang may be a bastard — he was still her blood, her grandson.
xiang's arrival doesn’t come without curious wonder to the affluential families of shanghai. when news is leaked that the eldest female zhou bore a son at the age of fifty, tidbits of fibs and gossips start to fickle through. how could a woman of that age produce a child that young? had he been adopted? was he her biological son? had he been the son of her husband’s mistress? was he actually her grandson? rumours swirled through the city every hour of the waking day as xiang grew, but slowly the whispers of his existence start to die down and the zhou family can breathe once more.
he reaches the age of ten quickly, but not without a few bumps in the road. the dark haired boy wants to explore the streets of shanghai, but instead his “mother” shoves awful hobbies down his throat. from fencing, french, football, he gets sick of them all quickly — until there’s one that peeks his interest — ballet. the way the dancers glide their feet across the floor so swiftly and gracefully without a mistake take him from surprise and he’s in love. he jumps to the chance to take lessons but his father ruins his dream in seconds, “ballet is not for boys.” endless number of tears stream down his face, night after night, as he’s forbidden in taking part of doing something he loves. till his mother comes to his rescue. ah yes, the one and only. she takes him to private lessons behind his father’s back and for the first time in a long time, xiang feel like he’s born again and free as ever. this time when he lets out a cry, it’s a cry of triumph.
the tender of eighteen passes by effortlessly for him. he’s as bright as he could be and the apple of his parents eye — intelligent, charming and handsome. everything the zhou family strived for their youngest son to be. they’re the perfect picture family until he feels the air shift around him. maids whisper quietly in his presence and he notices his parent’s once filled with grace, ooze of nervousness. he doesn’t understand till she arrives. his eldest sister. the dark haired boy knows not much about her, only small bits of information he had heard from his mother — that she adored velvet sweets, had a knack for the french language, that she had married and had two daughters and that she and xiang had the same eyes — he had her eyes.
the next few weeks are a blur in his sister’s presence. his gazes meets her harsh stares and he can’t help but wonder what he had done to her. had he done something to insult her when he was child? had their eldest brother talked bad about him? had his parent’s truly love him more than her? the dark haired boy simply didn’t understand his attitude towards him, until he hears a commotion and ruckus, he wasn’t suppose to hear. the truth.
his demander changes for the worse by the time he’s twenty-three. every night since he’s lived on his own, there’s a new woman on his hip, more alcohol that runs through his veins and more drugs he inhales. the media catches onto his late night rendezvous and his rumours start to swirl about his drug use. finally, his father has had enough. he decides to put xiang’s intelligence and wit to use in korea, hoping it will change him for the good. but xiang knows there’s no changing him, so he drinks his sorrows away hoping to let out a final cry, but nothing comes — and he knows it never will.
