Happy Terry Pratchett Day, on what would have been his 77th birthday.
To mark the occasion, we are putting our focus on reading for all, so we invite you to pick up a book, celebrate those championing literacy and access, share the stories that impacted you most, and celebrate your local libraries, who make this accessible across the country.
Terry was a firm believer that reading should be for everyone, and we continue to champion this ethos. No matter the age, format, or genre, there's a power in words and stories to transport readers.
For those looking to bring a little bit of Discworld into your, or younger readers', lives, Gollancz have given us some free sample colouring pages from the Discworld colouring book to share and print at home: https://terrypratchett.com/free-to-download-discworld-colouring-pages/
A continued and hearty thanks to all who keep Terry's work and legacy alive, and mark days like today in his honour. And to those who continue to fight for access to reading, for the importance of libraries, and the worlds that await within the pages of books - we thank you.

NaPoWriMo 2025 Days 26-28
I've been doing napowrimo since 2018, and I've never fallen off 2 days in a row like I've done this year. So Saturday, Day 26, we were supposed to do sonnets and I was tired and also had Colin Firth hangover from watching Pride and Prejudice 1995, and so I fell asleep before writing anything (even before watching the Doctor Who episode so you can see I was really tired) . Yesterday (Day 27) actually had a cool prompt referencing the Auden poem about the Breughel painting (both my favourites) but I was going to do the sonnet first and that really took me out. I wrote and deleted about 7/8 first stanzas because they all sounded bad.
Don't particularly like the one I've finally written but here's 3 poems together: a sonnet for day 26:

A little take on Munch's Scream for Day 27:

And a cinquain about a wedding dance for today's prompt:

Day 25.
Prompt from napowrimo.net was to "write a poem that recounts an experience of your own in hearing live music, and tells how it moves you. It could be a Rolling Stones concert, your little sister’s middle school musical, or just someone whistling – it just needs to be something meaningful to you.". This is dedicated to the girls who performed the medley at Annual Function 2017, the first time I was properly in charge of the English part of the show.
P.S: I know I've forgotten to update here but my poems are still there on Instagram. Here's Day 24:

And Day 23, 22 and 21:

Abd last one for this post: Day 20. Prompt from napowrimo.net was to write a poem with a song's rhythm. Take a song, replace the words, keep the beat. I started out with The Hills but I think it just went off and did its own thing.

Days 11 & 12
Day 11. Day 11. Prompt from napowrimo.net was to write a poem using opposing song lyrics as refrain.
instagram
Day 12. Prompt from napowrimo.net was to write "a poem that makes reference to one or more myths, legends, or other well-known stories, that features wordplay (including rhyme), mixes formal and informal language, and contains multiple sections that play with a theme. Try also to incorporate at least one abstract concept – for example, desire or sorrow or pride or whimsy." Pretty sure I missed a thing here or there.

Okay. This one's odd. Prompt for napowrimo2025 Day 10 from napowrimo.net was to write "a poem that uses alliteration and punning (I forgot about the punning). See if you can’t work in references to at least one word you have trouble spelling, and one that you’ve never quite been able to perfectly remember the meaning of."Also, the resource for the day was the Sistine Chapel, so I thought the Renaissance was an apt subject. That Google suggestion really did happen.

napowrimo2025 Day 7. Prompt: "write a kind of self-portrait poem, in which you explain why you are not a particular piece of art (a symphony, a figurine, a ballet, a sonnet), use at least one outlandish comparison, and a strange (and maybe not actually real) fact."I guess I just went with it.

Day 5
#napowrimo2025 Day 5. The prompt from napowrimo.net was too technical and specific for me so I went with an alternative prompt from gooduniversenextdoor.com : "Comfort/dis-comfort food- Write a poem describing a scene that involves comfort food and the solace it gives you. Or… pick a food item, describe it and connect it to a source of tension in your life. "
