Fall of the Crown
Fall of the Crown is @ruleofexception's Obiyuki epic, and one of the first fics I actually asked permission to bind.
The cover material is quilting cotton, filled with paste to stiffen it. I went to an actual quilting store praying for a pattern with blueberries in it (or perhaps not blueberries after all - it's plot-relevant) and was over the moon when I found this. It's perfect.
What's not perfect is that I goofed up the titles - they should be The Fall of the Crown. But the author forgave me.
This is the first fic I've bound that I've had to separate into two volumes, and I'm tickled that I did because it gave me the chance to use two different quotes on the back. Both are out of the text, and in shiny red HTV to contrast with the demure background and hopefully convey a bit of foreboding.
Endpapers are plain colored paper from the art supply store, one in gray and one in blue.
Lessons learned from this bind:
Quilting cotton is thin - when using it as bookcloth without a backing, be cautious about the colors of board underneath because they may show through
My paper guillotine is very limited in how thick a book it can trim square - it cut angles in all directions and I tried to remedy it with sanding with limited success
