Re-Re-Remixes: Yeah Yeah Yeahs and whatnot.
Hello! So I tend to search the web for remixes I enjoy. Partly because I am an inspiring DJ. Partly because I have nothing better to do. And so with that said, here are some remixes I've stumbled upon recently that I felt were worth sharing.
So I saw the Yeah Yeahs when they were in town, and let me just say: it was bitching beyond belief. It was an experience and everyone basked in their glory. That really doesn't have much to do with this post, I just wanted to mention that.
ANYWAY. I found a pretty dope remix of their newest single "Sacrilege" and you will listen:
It's nice and house-y. The dynamics are awesome. And it has a tasty synth line. Also it samples the original drum track which is nice. It almost has a 80's feel to it? But it's awesome. Tommy Sunshine does a pretty solid remix too. But I prefer The Third One. Because.
Moving On! Tegan & Sara are cool right? They have a stupidly catchy single, "Closer" And Sultan and Ned Shepard took the liberity of making it all House and stuff. I like House if you haven't noticed. But it's big and sweeping and fun to jump around to and here ya go:
And last but not at all the least we have a groovy mash-up from The Hood Internet. They do one of my favorite mash-ups involving Matt & Kim and the Beastie Boys. So you should check that out later. But for now take a look at his dance inducing creation taking JT's "Suit and Tie" and Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" And what's more impressive is that they made this remix before the "Get Lucky" track was released. So The Hood Internet made it using the audio from the various Daft Punk commercials that were airing on SNL. So take a gander and be impressed as shit:
But that's all I got for you this time around. Hope you enjoy those tunes. Or not. You're allowed to not like them. But feel free to express any opinion you have in the comments or reblog or like or just stare at the screen. Until next time.

Zach Braff's Passion Project Reaches Goal
Tumblr media
In an astonishing feat, Zach Braff tapped into the power of Kickstarter to fund his next movie. And It's actually a big deal.
About two weeks ago Zach Braff, of Scrubs fame, made a Kickstarter page. 3 Days later it raised 2 Million Dollars. Here's why it matters.
First off, the project itself sounds awesome. In 2004 Zach Braff wrote and directed a movie called Garden State. It stared himself and Natalie Portman and received critical acclaim and has become a indie classic. Now Zach wanted to return to the director's chair and make something new. And it sounds awesome. I'll let him explain it so I don't make it sound really lame.
In summary, Zach Braff is passionate about this and has a vision. This is something that deserves to be made.
And so it was. After making the Kickstarter word spread like wildfire. The page quickly garnered backers and pretty soon it reached the goal of 2 Million dollars. Now this is important because it marks a shift in how things are done in Hollywood. Braff said himself that this is potentially a game-changer. This bridges the gap between the Creator and fan. Kickstarter gives the fan a direct way to interact and participate in the creative process of making a movie. With this and the recent funding of the Veronica Mars Movie, it proves that people are willing to throw money at the things they want to see happen. And I think that's pretty fucking cool.

Album Review: Cardboard Castles (2013)
Tumblr media
Rating: ★★★★★ Genre: Hip Hop/Rap Release Date: March 12, 2013 For Fans Of: Childish Gambino, Spose, Wax Download This!: Strong as an Oak
There's honestly something special about this album. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a fan. This album deserves to be heard. It's not a perfect album. But the flaws give it character  And honestly, there wasn't a track on this album that I didn't fall in love with.
But first things first. If you don't know, Watsky is a rapper/poet. And he's fucking talented as all hell. This is his latest effort titled Cardboard Castles. And the album is dynamic, fun, moving, thought provoking, and just all around awesome.
The album has it all. There are fun upbeat tracks like "Strong as an Oak", "Ugly Faces", or the hilariously and appropriately titled "Kill a Hipster." There are inspirational tracks like "Moral of the Story" and "Cardboard Castles." But in my opinion Watsky's best moments are when things get real, when the songs get a little dark or human. "Hey Asshole" which features the amazing Kate Nash, or "Tiny Glowing Screens" are kind of sad and easy to relate to.
But what makes the album special? A lot of albums have fun songs and sad songs and blahblahblah. That's nothing new. And while Watsky does all those songs with sincerity and heart and skill and awesomeness, that's not what sets the album apart. So what does? Well for one, there's one track that I liked "The Legend of Hardhead Ned" and it actually tells a damn story. Like a story with characters and plot and voices and everything. How often do you hear that? But there's one track that makes you just, stop everything. It's "Tiny Glowing Screens Pt 2" The Track is a poem set to some well composed music. And the poem is so beautiful and thought provoking and heartbreaking that it stops time for a second.
Additional, throughout the album there are these skits between Watsky and this cute little kid that are both adorable and real, and it really molds the album into an unique experience. So for these reasons and more is why I think you should pick up this album when it drops. Watsky is great. Not much more I can say. The album is currently streaming on Rap Genius right now. So you can give it a listen if you're not sure if you wanna buy it, but let's be honest. You need to buy this.

You know, I'm really happy that I live here in Las Vegas. The Cosmo is a big reason why.
You see, I've been to a lot of outstanding concerts at the Cosmo. And apparently I will be continuing that trend because The Cosmopolitan has booked a shit ton of badass artists over the next couple months. I'm going to present some of the highlights to you in a list so that you can view the list and then get excited or jealous you do not live in Las Vegas.
3/16 Flogging Molly
4/10 Tegan and Sara
4/11 New Order
4/12 Vampire Weekend
4/13 Yeah Yeah Yeahs
4/17 Of Monsters and Men & Local Natives
4/18 Hot Chip
4/19 The Postal Service (SOLD FUCKING OUT)
4/20 Band of Horses
4/20 Morrissey
5/9 Marina and the Diamonds
5/16 Yellowcard
5/30 Matt & Kim
6/19 She & Him
SO. That's what's going down. I for one will be going to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for sure. And I am heartbroken that The Postal Service is sold out. But The Cosmo has done a bang up job on booking acts. So for that I commend them. And I am looking forward to the coming months...

Film Review: 21 & Over (2013)
Tumblr media
21 & Over
Rating: ★★★ Genre: Comedy In Theaters: March 1, 2013 Directed By: Jon Lucas & Scott Moore // Screenplay By: Jon Lucas & Scott Moore Starring: Skylar Astin, Milles Teller, & Justin Chon Synopsis: Jeff Chang is turning 21. And his two friends Casey and Miller make a surprise visit to celebrate. The 21st  celebration gets insanely out of hand, which is not good because Jeff has the biggest interview of his life the next morning. Now Casey and Miller have to make sure Jeff Chang makes it home in one piece in this coming-of-age teen comedy.
Now here's the thing when it comes to teen comedy's: You got to lighten up. Since Animal House, teen comedy's has been the world's loud, kind of douche-y, but sincere and funny friend. And that's what came to mind when I saw 21 & Over. Please don't take this as me comparing this movie to Animal House. It's not. No teen comedy will ever be that good. But this movie will fit nicely on your movie shelf between Van Wilder and Eurotrip.
The story is quite simple and Hangover-esque, which makes sense. The writers and directors of this movie wrote The Hangover. The story is about a college student named Jeff Chang. He is turning 21. Woot. His two high school friends Casey and Miller decide to show up and surprise him to celebrate the occasion. There's only one problem. Jeff has a stereotypical strict Asian father who set up a huge med school interview for him the next morning. The two boys ensure Jeff Chang's father that they will be going out for just one drink. Those are famous last words. What ends up happening is far more stupid, yet far more funny as well.
Look, I get it. The movie is very predictable, even for a crazy comedy. And yeah, some of the gags are gross and not that funny. There were a few misses. But honestly this movie did exactly what it needed to do. It was a dumb teen comedy that in my opinion delivered the goods. Skylar Astin and Miles Teller made great leads and were charming bastards. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of both of these guys. The college atmosphere was captured. There were a lot of genuinely funny moments, and a couple touching moments as well. This was a flawed film. I think a reason why I think I enjoyed it as much as I did was because I literally had zero expectations for this movie. It surprised me. And I like surprises. And I liked this movie. So there.

Your Required Viewing for YouTube #3
Tumblr media
Hello Everyone! This week we got killer music, sigh, a cat video, and a male stripper. So let's get to it shall we?
I recently starting listening to this electronic/DJ group known as C2C. They hail from France and they're pretty dope. That was that until I stumbled upon one of their live shows. And holly shit. I was kind of blown away. C2C has been scratching for quite some time and they have it down to a science. So if you're at all into Djing or electronic music, you have to be impressed by this. Take a look:
Next we have a video that amused me so much I had to share it. The Internet is oversaturated with cat videos. They are ever present. They are always and forever, alpha and omega. It's kind of terrifying actually. BUT. I did really like this cat freaking out over Mario sound effects. So, yeah. Watch:
And finally we have a Cracked video. I share stuff from these guys a lot because they're always so Goddamn brilliant. This one, I'd rather not spoil for you guys. But it's funny. And it features the always funny and very pretty Soren Bowie. But if you're offend by Speedo clad pelvic thrusts, I wouldn't watch the video. And if you are into that, then you're welcome:
But that's all for this week! Hope you enjoy the videos. And be sure to check back here for the next Required YouTube Viewing. Or not. Up to you really.

Re-Re-Remixes: Macklemore and More!
SO. I'm gonna share some outstanding remixes and it's going to be great okay?
And right out of the gate we got something awesome. Madeon is a pretty well respected DJ/producer and is a God on a launchpad. But he's got some pretty sick remixes to his name. One of my favorites is his "Smile Like You Mean It" remix. I think a successful remix is one that retains the essence of a song, while adding something new. I hate those remixes that chops up and digests the track into something unrecognisable. But Madeon takes the already catchy Killers song into something more dance-y. And it is fantastic. Have a listen or two:
Next we have a remix from one of my favorite rappers/producers, K.Flay. If you are not familiar with her work CHANGE THAT IMMEDIATELY because you are seriously missing out. Moving on! K.Flay decided she was gonna remix Kreayshawn. And I'll be honest, she kinda bugs the hell out of me. K.Flay makes Kreayshawn look like a "basic bitch" as Kreayshawn would say. So K.Flay decided to improve upon the track "Gucci Gucci" and it is pretty cool. For a Kreayshawn track. No but it is pretty sick and you should listen to it. As an added bonus, the video for the track is K.Flay eating In & Out. So that's a thing:
And finally we have one of the best remixes I've heard in a long time. Unless you have not turned on the radio in recent time, there is a song by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis called "Thrift Shop" And it's actually a pretty original rap song that's catchy so that means it's overplayed and everyone will hate it in a month or two. But for now you can grace your ears with this motherfucking awesome remix by Kenitik Groove that you will nod your head to. You will. Just you wait:
But that's all the dope beats I got for you, or whatever. Let me know if you like it or hate in the comments. If you like the words you just read and the sounds you just heard. Why don't you go ahead and click the little heart icon for me? That would be just lovely.

Coachella Line-up: Highlights and Thoughts
Tumblr media
To all of the people saying this line-up isn't "impressive" or that all of the main acts are "has beens": Shut. The. Fuck. Up. Honestly I'm automatically disappointed due to the fact of no Daft Punk. But here's why I think this year's line up for Coachella isn't "Underwhelming" as others might say. This post will be long and rant-y. So, yeah.
Alright. If you haven't already seen it, this is the line up for Coachella 2013:
Tumblr media
So I've heard some disappointment in the air about this line up. And I was confused. Because this is a fucking awesome line up. And I'm gonna break it down for you right now.
First of all, People were disappointed that the rumor of The Rolling Stones headlining was false. Okay, sure. That would've been cool. They're legends. But come on guys. It's not like Mick Jagger is planing on retiring, ever.  He's an immortal cocaine God, he's not going anywhere. And I bet their performance wouldn't be as mind blowing as people would think it would be.
Next, this line-up's strength isn't in their headliners, which to their credit are all awesome artists. But this line-up runs deep. And I'm gonna go through each day with ya.
Day 1: The headliners: Blur and The Stone Roses. A 90's wet dream. Now I'm not sure if they're playing together or not. But both of those bands are legends worthy of praise. And would be pretty insane live. Blur has the Alt-Brit rock and The Roses has the dirty Bluesy grunge. So together they would be interesting. And then you got the YEAH YEAH YEAHS. Which I think could have headlined a night, especially considering this is their grand return to the spotlight. And Karen O is a goddess that can command a stage.
But maybe you wanted The Rolling Stones to headline so you can get in some old guy rock. Boom. Lou Reed. A legend in his own right. Get some old school hipsterness in ya. Or maybe you died inside like I did when you didn't see Daft Punk. Well day one has some pretty sick electronic acts to help cope. Like: Bassnecter, Wolfgang Gartner, C2C, Tommy Trash, Infected Mushroom, and Nicky Romero. But maybe you wanted some hip hop! Well Jurassic 5 should be enough for you. And then throw indie favorites like Passion Pit and Band of Horses and Modest Mouse and Metric and Tegan and Sara and Local Natives and Of Monsters and Men. And you got yourself a Day One my friend.
Day Two: Phoenix is headlining. And while they are a fucking great band, they're gonna need help to hold their own on the main stage. If we look at the fact that the band has close ties to Daft Punk, and the fact that Daft Punk surprised a crowd at a Phoenix show a few years back, IT COULD HAPPEN. Another big thing for day two is we got The Postal Service reunion! And New Order is there to bring some 80's goodness to the stage. And The Descendents are bringing the punk to day two. There are some solid electronic acts like Knife Party, Benny Banassi (Legend), and Simian Mobile Disco. The Wombats are a great fucking band and they need to be more popular and it's cool they're playing! FOALS is coming off a new release so their show will be pretty good I'm guessing. 2 Chainz is performing, for, reasons... Sigur Ros's music is basically a religious experience, so I expect them to make everyone experience nirvana. And if that's not your thing then go get drunk watching The Dropkick Murphys. There's a wide pallet of music for you to enjoy on day two. Oh and Moby. I thought he was dead.
Day 3:  The Red Hot Chilli Peppers are always a safe bet. They will always deliver. They have a gigantic library to make for a dynamic closing act. Say what you will about the band but they're still around for a reason. And Vampire Weekend is doing things again, and they're a fun band to see live. But what I'm most excited about is the Wu. They are nothing to fuck with. And the RZA and Method Man and Ghostface will fucking deliver. Trust me. Social D will bring in some much needed punk rock. I always thought Coachella ignored punk rock. Glad to see a classic Punk Rock act being there. Eric Prydz is making a comeback. Which is neat. And Paul Oakenfold and Hardwell will make for a good night for House music. As far as smaller acts go, The Faint is a band you need to see. They got this dirty techno punk thing going. And they've been around for awhile. Basically they're badass and you should check them out,
I guess the point of all this is that there are some pretty neat acts playing this year. And while this post is just an incoherent ramble about nothing in particular, it made me realize that I'm excited about Coachella. Even though there's no way in hell I'm gonna be able to afford it...

The Postal Service 2013?!
Tumblr media
Well this is pretty awesome.
If you take a look at The Postal Service's website you'll see it went through an interesting update. The website teasingly shows the image above stating: "The Postal Service 2013" What this means remains to be seen. Multiple sources can agree that at the very least a reunion is in order. After all it is the 10th anniversary of their album "Give Up" and it would be very appropriate. Their label is planning on releasing an anniversary edition to the album. And there are even talks of them playing at Coachella, as well as other tour dates.
But if you have no idea who The Postal Service is, let me tell you. The Postal Service is a duo whose members include Jimmy Tamborello and Ben Gibbard, of Death Cab for Cutie fame. Oh, and they have pretty fucking rad music. So get excited.

2012: A Late Post
First and foremost I must say, hi. Sorry it's been so long. The holiday's were hectic. But this is me, Deej. And I'm here to say that I'm now ready to bring Ruthless Online into 2013. And it's going to kick all kinds of ass. And there will be beats and explosions and opinions and most of all, outstanding writing by yours truly. Also sarcasm.  I will write a lot of sarcasm.
Moving on!
Welp, we're well on our way into 2013. A new year. Bold. Brave. Another striking adjective that starts with B. And I had trouble thinking of how I was going to talk about this last year. A hell of a lot has happened. I think we got all of the year in review things we need.
I'm not writing to remind you of what happened this last year. You were there. You saw first hand.
This isn't for me to show you all the cool things that you might have missed last year because I am a gigantic hipster.
I won't even go as far to say that 2012 was a good year.
2012 hurt like hell.
It's hard to look at all of the good times when the bad ones seem to be ever present.
2012 had its fair share of pain. It had unrest. It had a fucking stressful Presidential election. 2012 didn't go without it's face palms and tears and cries of frustration.
But you know what? Maybe 2012 wasn't the best year. And maybe we won't look back and see the best of us. But as shitty as 2012 got, it was our year.
I know that it is so goddamn cliché to say that. It was our year. Bleh. I can hear the uplifting 80's soundtrack as I write that phrase. But I'm being serious. 2012 was our year. Ours. I'm not saying it was the greatest fucking thing ever. Although there was some pretty cool shit that happened. I'm saying that last year left me hopeful. Despite all of the chaos and entropy, 2012 left me feeling like it's just gonna get better from here. And that's a good feeling.
And maybe none of this makes any sense. That is a distinct possibility. But, I don't know. It's nice looking back at the last year and smiling because humanity hasn't completely fucked everything yet. So yay for that! And yay for 2013! I got a feeling it's gonna be a good one guys. It's gonna be a good one.

#1ReasonWhy and why it's Important
I think if we all looked at the gaming industry as a whole, it's pretty easy to tell that the Video Game society isn't really geared towards women. At all. For some reason, if a woman is into gaming, their credibility is thrown into question.
I'm sure if you're a girl, simply playing a video game online can be trying, due to the questionable language the majority of male players use. But it's more than just stupid people on the Internet. The same dismissive, objectifying attitude is carried throughout the industry. Gaming. Journalism. Development. For some reason women do not seem to be welcome in any of it. The sad thing is that is doesn't have to be that way.
And that's where #1ReasonWhy comes in. This hashtag started trending on twitter on 11/26/12. In this hashtag you will find female game developers, female gamers, and others all sharing why there are so few women in the gaming industry. The general consensus was that the gaming industry is catered to men and women are largely excluded/outcast/mistreated, you get the deal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a male and a gamer it was really eye opening to see all of these stories being shared about how awful it can be for a women in the gaming industry. It really goes to show how blatant and alive sexism is in our society. I mean I'm sure of all of us have heard stories from a girl about being treated like crap playing a game online. But to see all of these stories in one place, and to see that even women that MAKE video games get treated the same, it's sobering man. It's a call to action if I ever saw one.
So if you're at all interested in the gaming industry I highly suggest you check it out. The hashtag features a lot of voices and opinions that are a lot more eloquent than mine. And feel free to give your opinion on the matter in comment section.

Your Required Viewing for YouTube #2
Tumblr media
Hello there! On today's Required YouTube we have a healthy dose of badass, strange, and strangely baddass videos. So if you're up for it, I would love to get started. Shall we?
So first off I would like to share a video from a little while back. I've been on a pretty big White Stripes kick lately. Mainly because I realized there's a possiblity that I may never see them live. So I started looking up live performances of the late band. And I found myself watching this one:
Live at the 2004 Grammy's. Now at first it seems like a rocking performance of the classic "Seven Nation Army." but at about 2 minutes in, Jack White decides to switch it up and the song goes into "Dead Letter" And it's awesome. Right when you think it can't get much better, at around 3:20 he just looses his shit and riffs and solos and speeds things up and it's epic. Basically, it's so good I had to share it. So that's what I'm doing now.
Moving on for some comedy! The Kloons is a sketch group that I've become a fan of not too long ago. And what I like most about their videos is how unpredictable they can be at times. Their stuff is funny, sure. But it's the way they keep you guessing or throw you off guard that makes them different. You could say they're really good at keeping things, fresh.
I don't even want to begin to describe what just happened there. So for my sake just watch it.
And finally I have something a bit strange, and a bit kick ass. Corridor Digital is the best there is as far as Vfx and action go. On YouTube at least. They always release polished, entertaining, and visually striking stuff. I'm pretty sure I've shared their work before. But today I'd like to show you their latest outing. It's titled "Far Cry Happy Hour." Take a look:
I think the guys at Corridor Digital discovered an ancient truth. Things get weird when you add drugs to the mix. And drugs and gun fights might be a match made in heaven. But it's trippy and cool and I love it and you should too.
But that's all I got today. If you like what you saw, go ahead and like the post. Or if you didn't or have an opinion (good or bad) you'd like to express, please feel free to do so in the comments. It's what it's there for.

Film Review: Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
Tumblr media
Silver Linings Playbook
Rating: ★★★★ Genre: Comedy/Drama In Theaters: November 21st, 2012 Directed By: David O. Russell // Screenplay By: David O. Russell & Matthew Quick. Starring: Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro and Chris Tucker. Synopsis: After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.
So first things first ladies and gentlemen. You can pinpoint a moment when you start loving something. For example, I started loving French Fries when I started dipping them in my milkshake. I started loving running after my first Cross Country meet. I started loving Jennifer Laurence after I viewed this film. Now this is not at all a disservice to the other wonderful actors in this movie. But, I will say that Miss Laurence left a big impression on me with her outstanding performance, and hotness. She was really hot in this movie. Like, shit.
But moving on! Silver Linings Playbook is a movie. A good one. It's about a man named Pat (Bradley Cooper), a teacher fresh out of the mental institute. And he's on a mission to put his life back together. His father (Mr. De Niro himself) is well meaning and loving, but clearly a bit unstable himself. Now Pat's motivation for recover is to win back his ex-wife. But then enters Tiffany (Jennifer Laurence). And she is this equally crazy girl that makes things more interesting. Comedy and drama and awesome acting ensues.
Basically, it is a romantic comedy. But despite that fact, it is a pretty solid film carried by some badass performances. This film was made possible by the actors. But David Russell writes and directs with that in mind. So it wasn't done by accident due to bad writing. The movie caters to the talent. Dynamic characters and lots of dialogue defines this film.
And it sells well because of the acting! Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Laurence dominate the film. And they share the screen well together. Both of them do the crazy bit superbly. I was actually surprised by Jen's performance. I knew she was a good actress (Winter's Bone), But I was surprised by how well she did such a outgoing and off the wall character. And this also marks the first time I realized how effing sexy she is. Like, the film involves dancing at one point. And they totally exploit how good she looks in tight pants and tank tops. And I'm sure the guys had no problem with it either. I mean for God's sake I feel like they cast Chris Tucker just so he can go "Damn!" at Jennifer Laurence's ass.
And Mr. Bradley Cooper as the lead. I was waiting for Bradley to take a role like this. For too long has Bradley Cooper chosen mediocre films. The American public knows that he has more in him. It's why he's so popular. He picks shitty movies, but deep down you just know he's a good actor. This was his moment of truth. And he knocked it out of the park. He plays the role of Pat with an unbelievable amount of truth. I am so happy to see Bradley Cooper take on a role that showcases his awesomeness. I would go so far as to say that he could get Oscar buzz for this.
And while the supporting cast killed it, (I thought Chris Tucker was dead, glad he's not) the two leads held a tight grip on the movie. And they had a fantastic chemistry. So much so that it made you forget that is was a romantic comedy. Add a good soundtrack and some solid camera work, and you got yourself some movie magic. So yes, I did enjoy this movie. Just in case you were wondering. And I am looking forward to what Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Laurence will attach themselves to next.
