If you're lamenting the fact that you used to be able to shoot through a 500-page novel in like a day when you were in middle school and now you can't, it's worth bearing in mind that a big part of that is because when you were in middle school, your reading comprehension sucked. Yes, mental health and the stresses of adult life can definitely be factors, but it's also the case that reading is typically more effortful as an adult because you've learned to Ponder The Implications. The material isn't just skimming over the surface of your brain anymore, and some of the spoons you used to spend on maximising your daily page count are now spent on actually thinking about what you're reading!

The hurdy-gurdy is an instrument of paradoxal contradictions. For one, it has an astonishingly beautiful sound, but a name that sounds like a british slang term for an unspeakable sex act.

bruh i used to hide out in the library in middle school during lunch to read because the lunchroom was overstimulating and i had so many bullies and so many issues with eating in front of people so i would just skip lunch and retreat into book time in the safety of the library, and one day the librarian came over and told me the library had started a new "lounge" for honors students in a little sideroom with comfy chairs where students could snack while they read if they want
and i was today years old when i realized i never saw a single other student in that little room that definitely held storage stuff before then and that the librarian absolutely made that up so i would have a safe space to read and be alone and eat in the library

coding got me saying shit like “target the child” “assign its class” “override its inheritance” like the third wife of a dying oil baron discovering his of-age son born out of wedlock

“And one day she discovered that she was fierce, and strong, and full of fire, and that not even she could hold herself back because her passion burned brighter than her fears.” -Mark Anthony
Starting off this week with another photo from Kindle NW where I discovered my new love of doing fire in a long, wooshy coat. ^^
Still can't get over how fun it was to be on the beach, with so many empowering people.
Wishing you all a bad@ss week. Stay fierce my friends. 🖤

drug patents should be illegal bc T pills that don't destroy your liver already exist but they're a zillion dollars because corporations hate it when trans people are happy and love it when we have to use inconvenient and painful routes of administration instead

i wish left-leaning understood that most right-wing people don't have bad intentions. most conservative apologists for fascists or even fascists themselves don't wake up with the desire to be harmful. nor do they even have the full awareness of the evil they commit. sure, there are some people who are knowingly morally bankrupt and have no shame in the matter, but this is relatively rare (more people are apathetic than malicious).
but good intentions can still hurt others. good intentions can and does lead to violence. even fascism is rooted in a desire for "purity and goodness," which sounds nice without any of the context of what fascism actually entails. this is why everyone is susceptible to believing fascist ideology. though admittedly, some are more susceptible than others due to, usually, their material conditions.

Republicans can't win without threatening and committing violence. January 6th-like insurrections and election tampering will happen in states all across the country this time. Don't let her down!

The microwaves been beeping for the last six minutes. I open it and it keeps going. I close it and it keeps going. Beep beep beep, to no one’s delight but its own. I turn my back and it stops. As if it wants an audience. Or demands. If I was not late for my swimming lesson I might amuse it. Beep on, I resign, beep on. Who am I to deny you your song? For my own is too often quelled and silenced and beaten back. Your one note is dull, but it is your own. My many notes are full, but are overthrown.

‘why should I expend so much of my precious time and energy casting my vote? why should I labour so long and so hard to participate in this election when the candidate opposing the literal fascist isn’t entirely perfect?’
as a non-american I am fascinated by this us voting system whereby apparently you must scale ice-capped mountains, descend through dark and secret tunnels pursued by monsters of the deep, sail raging river rapids, navigate haunted marshes and walls guarded by the undead, until at last you must scale the perilous steppes of Mount Doom to cast your ballot into the firey depths. I was under the impression you just take twenty minutes out of your fucking day to put an ‘x’ on a piece of card.
