this is the 09:37am chat on the 9th day of zen’s route. this is during the echo girl scandal. before this chat there was a jumin story mode where v called him and asked him to take care of zen.

literally zen’s world was falling apart—just like jumin’s did in the ae. here v, the ever absent leader of the rfa, ever the loyal secret keeper of the saviour, his ex-fiancee, whose death he lied about to his loved ones, calls up jumin to ask to help zen. this is after everything he’s done for the saviour, after everything he’s suffered from her. in that story mode the last thing jumin says is to ask v about going to the hospital meaning he’s already been injured by her at this point. despite all of that he still worries over zen, he still looks out for him.

plus, he already talked to seven about it before even calling jumin.

and yet what saeran’s ae is trying to convince me is that the moment he decided to return to the saviour it only took jihyun two goddamn weeks to abandon everything he ever felt and thought about his loved ones? it only takes two weeks for him to throw his compassion, empathy, and kindness away? two weeks for his apologies to become shallow as he actively ruins his friends’ lives? 14 goddamn days and he’s gung-ho about subjecting his friends to sleeping gas, drugging saeyoung, and luring saeran into a trap while everyone in the rfa that he loves so much falls apart?

screw that. jihyun’s not capable of that kind of evil. his kindness in another story is not new or a rewrite. it’s not like in the original stories he’s only ever been a puppet of the saviour’s, lying his way along the routes and being shady all the time. it’s an expansion of his character that existed in the original stories and they butchered it in the space of three and a half days. make it make sense, people. he’s been with the saviour for more than two weeks; so 14 more days shouldn’t have changed anything. unless he was drugged and brainwashed like saeran was. that’s the only explanation.

what would it be like if vanderwood was ur older brother lolol

Well, it's hard to say how it would play out. Vanderwood clearly has a family that matters to him. He went back to visit them the minute he was out of the agency.

There is a lot we can speculate on in terms of his family, but because he wanted to go back and see them it tells me that they've always mattered to him. Now, this is just my own headcanon, but I’ve always believed in my heart that he left his family because they had a hard time taking care of him. He had younger siblings who needed more attention than he did and having another mouth to feed causes a lot of stress to people who’re on a tight budget. Maybe his family was so determined to look after everyone no matter how hard it was, and he couldn't stand to watch everyone limit themselves so he could have things.

I think he decided to run away so his parents would be able to take care of his younger sibling(s) instead of him and he stumbled into someone from the agency on the street and the rest was history. I’ve typically assumed that he’s in his early thirties for a while, and given the fact that he says he was in the agency for just a little bit longer than our boy Saeyoung was, I think it’s plausible they picked him up as a teenager. 

My other working theory is that he didn't have siblings, but aging parents that were putting so much money out on him but they needed the money for something else that was important and well, he was a dumb kid. He thought running away might force them to take care of themselves. Maybe one of his parents was sick and needed an operation that could help them but they refused out of need to take care of Vanderwood.

It explains why he's soft on Saeyoung. Sure, he's going to protect his own ass no matter what, but there's something to be said about how far he goes to protect his brat in Another Story.  

I think he would be the kind of brother that looks after you but he makes it sound like he's doing it begrudgingly. He's grumpy, he's cranky, but he's got a heart of gold at the end of the day. He will readily crack to your desires just because he can't stand to see you upset. You want an ice cream? Alright, dammit, he'll go and get it. Just stop crying! He spoils people rotten and you'd never ever believe it.

That makes sense to me. You would never expect him to be a doting big brother but that's just the kind of person he is. It's easy for him to act like he doesn't care when he really cares a lot more than he lets on. That's the way he's learned how to survive and he can't turn that off no matter how much he wants to. That's one of those things he'll need to face in therapy once he gets there, it might take him a couple years to admit he needs help, unfortunately.

But, as far as him being a brother, you can count on him to be there for you no matter what you need. If his life isn't on the line and he can finally breathe, he can indulge in being that brother you deserve. Just wait, you've got a man in leopard print hanging out at sports games, your ballet recital, or whatever other hobby you have that might need you to have support!

Ok here are my Weirdly Specific Vanderwood headcanons

Was hesitant to post this cuz it kind of spoils my writing, but I'm still constantly debating posting my writing, and making a list is light and fun

TW for drug use, trauma. The vibes get kinda bad after the read more. But then they pick back up a little.

But as it is they aren't. Computers and smartphones are things they have to deal with for work.

The more analog the better. In fact, they somehow have a tape player in their car, and they keep tapes around. They love the feeling of their music taking up physical space.

Because they're very affected by their environment. Cozy environment equals a cozy Vanderwood. If their space is disorganized they can't focus on anything else.

What they enjoy listening to is mostly old metal and rock. Think Queen, Mötley Crüe. Music that drips glitter and gold.

I mean where do you think they got their haircut and leopard print from if not glam metal

They were raised in the UK and exposure to glam metal androginy was their gender awakening

I headcanon them as bigender and bisexual. Totally not because I'm projecting my gender and sexuality onto them. Nuh-uh. He/they lol

They love beautiful things. Gold, specially. Silk. But they don't allow themselves to wear it. (Yet?)

They own many scarves

Contrary to popular belief I don't think they blush very easily at all. They're very good at keeping their cool. They do, however, avoid eye contact when flustered, sometimes swallow dryly. And if you pay close attention, you'll notice they hold their breath, too.

I see them as a trauma kid. Probably had an absent mother figure and shitty father figure. Very low income childhood household.

Tried to be a good kid for most of their childhood. Realized in high school that that wasn't working, and became a delinquent shithead.

An incident while playing with fire/homemade explosives seriously injured a kid their age and put them in juvie

They got picked up by the agency six months later. They were 16. Kids with nothing to lose make for excellent killers.

Having injured that kid actually fucked them up pretty bad. Their personality did a full 180 after that. Ego death.

They're now completely desensitized to gore. Still find it unhygienic, but not disturbing.

Watch slasher movies as a coping mechanism. Specially shitty old slashers with practical effects.

They're only ever not ashamed of laughing out loud when they're watching slashers or spy movies.

They have OCD. They obsess with cleanliness and numbers.

They're always counting. Very good with quick math cuz they're always doing it. Sometimes a number pops up and they have to tap a joint (wrist, knee) that number of times to avert some grotesque catastrophe.

No one can see the tapping. If anyone sees it, grotesque catastrophe.

Sometimes it's like their sanity relies on everything being perfectly under control. And they're actually pretty good at keeping things under control and preparing for every situation, so you rarely get to see them having to deal with what is, to them, the catastrophe scenario.

They have a lot of practice at analyzing people/psychological and personality profiling. They're also always doing it out of habit. And it is a lot like math. They can't allow themselves to have interactions that aren't transactional, anyways, so socializing ends up being math.

The way they allow themselves to understand value is very practical - they're good if they're useful. That means they enjoy shooting a lot, cause they're good at it.

They have psychosis when on drugs, but didn't make the link between the drugs and the psychosis for a while, and abused drugs for years.

Became obsessed with divine geometry during those, felt that the patterns that they found in numbers were messages from a higher being.

Swore off drugs after an extremely bad paranoia bender. It made them realize how much they really, really didn't want to die.

Dropped the God stuff by that point. Wanting to survive was enough for them.

Mostly abused drugs with huge crashes.

Because they're a total emotional masochist

The type of person to Relish in an unrequited crush, as it confirms their bias that they're unworthy of love.

Torture themselves by keeping track of where they could be in life if they had actually gone to college

They feel like they're hardening themselves when they do it. That they're turning themselves more and more into a cold, indestructible weapon.

Cope by completely emptying themselves. And they feel safe when they're empty. Emotions equal danger

Because if they care about something, it will be taken from them, and absolutely destroy them

While working for the agency, they have plenty of excuses to be bad at relationships. Plus, they're scared you'll be terrified when you realize what a monster they've been their whole life, and they're terrified they'll lose control and do something horrible. But leaving the agency adds a whole new layer of "What if I let myself hope for a normal life and all of my hopes get crushed"

So yeah trying to get close to them will involve a lot of them avoiding you to keep themselves and you safe. Expect many unanswered texts and "Oh yeah I'm actually on the other side of the continent right now sorry I didn't tell you anything beforehand"

When a person with an avoidant attachment style is in love or in a relationship, it starts building up pressure. It builds up stress - a primal urge to run for your life. There are outbursts, fights.

They're usually capable of apologizing if they're unreasonable, though, after they cool down. They really don't want to lose you.

The urge to run is there in other places, too. They usually leave the room immediately after waking up from a PTSD nightmare.

By default, they're allergic to expressing positive emotions

But damn. When they start warming up to you and taking breaks from fighting the positive feelings more and more frequently. They care about you so much

You just have to know/learn how to read the signs

They'll easily get attached to someone who understands them and understands their boundaries and not to cross them. They're working so hard on being better about emotions!! Give them time. Don't make them too uncomfortable, or they'll shut down and pull away.

They value nonverbal communication because of how hard it is for them to be honest and upfront about things that matter to them. Sometimes a conversation will approach one of their boundaries and you two will look at each other and just know. Without having to say anything. You know the things they can't say yet are already there.

This wreck of a human being wants to be understood so bad. They CRAVE the mortifying ordeal of being known. Demonstrate insight into their personality and you'll live in their head rent free forever and ever. Same for remembering like, their favorite ice cream flavor or some offhand comment they made. They don't expect you to be interested enough to do these things.

He has so many scars. Try to avoid touching the one on his back from when a bullet punctured his lung. On a bad day, it'll knock him out of breath all over again.

Emotions are intimate and therefore dangerous and scary. Sex is easy though. They're bad at emotions and good at sex.

I imagine that in the beginning of a relationship they'd use sex as a love language a lot, cuz physical intimacy is the only type of intimacy they have any experience in.

Also. Acts of service. They will NOT let you drive. They will NOT let you cook. How else will you know they love you. They need this. Put the car keys down slowly and nobody gets hurt

Will also show they care by giving any hobby you have a serious try.

Stark comes from Game of Thrones, not Iron Man. They watched the first season when it came out and never recovered. Read all the books. They're a total geek about it.

Hello! Yes, you may! I know I said I only write for characters that have a route but I do wanna try writing Vanderwood lol.. so here we are!

Thank you for requesting, I hope this is okay enough for a first try! :D

-Vanderwood will never admit it but he loves cuddling a lot, especially after he has warmed up to you. Not only it helps him remember that his life isn't doomed thanks to the agency but inhaling your scent and being able to steal some kisses from you sounds great on his book. The agency left him greatly touch starved.

-The first time he ever got to cuddle with you, he was quite tense. Being so close and comfortable with someone was something that Vanderwood thought he would never experience. Working in an agency where you could die at any moment does damage to you, after all.

-Absolutely loves it especially when he is tired because he gets to feel your warmth and it helps calm him down from anything tiring he got to experience that day. It's like all the stress left his entire body as he literally melts in your embrace. But he tends to hide his face either on your chest or neck.

-PLAY WITH HIS HAIR, PLEASE. Oh god, you'll kill this man in a good way If you do that. He normally lets no one touch his hair but you are the only one that you can do anything you want with it. But stroke it and run your fingers through it and he'll feel himself growing more sleepy because he feels safe and like he can let down his guard for once.

-Definitely only goes to sleep as long as he can hold you or even you can hold him. Vanderwood is usually the big spoon but he's the small spoon if his day was draining. He is the type to cling onto you all night and groan softly when you wanna leave his embrace.

-Overall, they help calm him down and he also really enjoys being close to you, even if it takes him a while to warm up to holding someone close to him. Later on, the dude literally feels like he can't live on if he doesn't feel your skin against his and your warmth as he holds you close, he loves you so much to let you go. T^T

since its summer, what about some rfa + minor trio pool headcanons? :3

Vanderwood isn't much of a pool guy. He likes to lounge outside underneath a shady umbrella. Give him a drink and let him sleep. That's about as good as it gets for him. But, if you need a strong swimmer, yeah, he'll reluctantly come and save you from the pool "shark", Yoosung.

Zen loves to get his exercise on. But, he's polite. Stay away from one side of the pool because he wants to focus on laps. Just remind him he burns like a roast and he needs to apply sunscreen more often than not. Jaehee's good about reminding him so that's not too bad, but if she isn't there, God, please remind him. He might "heal" faster but the night of agony will drive him into a sensory frenzy.

Yoosung loves pool toys. Send this man on a quest to dive and find things and he's gone. The only problem is that he can't open his eyes all that well under the water and sometimes... well... Saeyoung uses that to his advantage and that's why you hear him screaming about a pool shark... it's cute, though. You have to give him credit for that.

Jihyun isn't a pool guy. He's not a wear-a-swimsuit kind of guy, either. I have the full belief that he has burn scars and he hates to show them off and expose them to the sun. So, he's good for taking photos of the trip and relaxing under a shady umbrella with Vanderwood. It's more comfortable for him that way, but you can talk him into soaking his legs for a while!

Jumin actually swims as an exercise, and I wonder if Zen can talk him into a race...

Jaehee is competitive at pool volleyball. She will destroy you and I hope you're ready to be crushed. Put her and Saeyoung on the same team and it's over for all of you.

Slather Saeran in sunscreen and put on a cute float. He can lay there and relax with a visor over his head while everyone else floats around and causes mischief.
