no sir, i’m not plural. sir, it is a mystical technique taught to me by my ancient forefathers to protect me against psychic invaders. my mind has been splintered and compartmentalized in order to confound any and all supernatural perversion. any other suggested cause is purely hearsay. i must reiterate, sir, it is only by coincidence that one of my many facets seems to resemble this gentleman “David Strider” you seem utterly convinced I’m familiar with. Surely, it must be the will of some divine providence that smiles upon the both of us.

haai sydney saltedsolenoid if hypothetically if you were forced to choose (between every instrument on earth) one instrument to become the new Only instrument on earth what instrument would you choose. Any evidence of other instruments existing will be erased etc etc. New instruments will never be invented because I am Not dealing with any csm shit in this hypothetical. I'm also not dealing with digital music production so we are going to cover our ears and go lalalalalala with that one.
haiiii neptune twilightarcade
i would like to start off this ask by saying that i am not a scholar of archaeology, anthropology, or musical history in any respect. that being said:
there is no such thing as a "one" instrument and you've given me an impossible question
we're going to go with a broad definition of an "instrument" here, that being, anything specifically crafted to make music. and "music" being, furthermore, defined as any sequence of melodies, rhythms, or resonances which can be recreated. and-- what your question hinges upon-- instruments are crafted in ways in which they can be categorized into types.
people have always made music. people have always made instruments. am i, in this hypothetical, erasing every instance of any instrument not favored, from this moment of time backwards? how deep does this go? how much musical history is erased? how much oral tradition? what deeply ingrained pathways in the back of each of our minds will be completely broken? the neural functions that keep time will be destroyed without an everlasting supplement to our senses of rhythm. the mythos of music obliterated, even if there is one everlasting instrument to hold its cross.
and what happens to that one instrument? let's say i keep a string guitar. acoustic or whatever. what lengths will prehistory go to create this? humanity needs some semblance of music. it's the one thing that cannot be suppressed from a civilization. what offshoots, what creations based on a guitar will end up being made? eventually, all of the acoustic family will be recreated, because humanity will keep trying to do something similar but different and slightly better until the sun explodes. music is our primary vessel for innovation, and this can't be changed.
and thinking of any music as resonance: what do you consider an instrument. what does this world consider an instrument? a drum is an instrument, yeah, but how primitive does it get? is the place on your thigh you always slap when you want to create a rhythm an instrument? is the cliff face hewn as an instrument each time it echoes voices back into itself? what is the baseline consideration of music? is a church bell music? is a clock's amplified ticking in an empty chamber music? is the wind music by way of blowing through leaves and empty logs? no matter what, instruments will be recreated, they will be maintained. you cannot destroy the base materials of everything ever to make noise. you cannot destroy the hammer against your eardrum.
you cannot stop humanity from making music. you can't stop rhythms or strumming against strings or scratching against rock. you can't stop funny mouth noises. there's nothing i could ban without destroying everything else. there's nothing i could keep without making it devoid of purpose.
so to finish this all off: everything is music, everything is loved, and everything is sacred. GOODNIGHT!
also i'd keep drums
