fun fact: in the danish translations of the hobbit and lord of the rings bilbo and frodo are called ‘sækker’ instead of baggins because sæk literally means ‘a sack’ so you can see how it carries the same sort of general linguistic connotation to a bag or a pouch of a kind (nevermind that the original etymological background was a yorkshire dialect word). however, between the time of the original translations in the 1960s and now, sæk has mostly become a slang term that means…. bitch.

so, you know. it’s bilbo bitch.

the pacing of lotr is, and i say this with the utmost affection and love, absolutely terrible. my brother almost stopped halfway through fellowship because he couldn’t deal with the tom bombadil chapters. After they defeat the main bad guy they have to go home and fight the industrial revolution. sometimes the story just stops dead for several pages for a song. i love it. it’s so stupid. The main failure of the movies is that they weren’t stupid enough 

like imagine if jirt had had a competent editor. imagine how diminished the world would be
