Travel to Strasbourg, France

If you are in Europe and want to see the small city life and culture in Strasbourg, a French city on the border of Germany, then read ahead for what you would expect and what I found worth seeing or doing when I was there.

Travel Details

Lets start from the very beginning, first you would like to know how to get there and find a place to stay in Strasbourg. The fastest way to get to Strasbourg, France is by train. There are no airports in the city. If you start your journey from somewhere in France, then you can use TGV, the fastest train in Europe and if you start-off from Germany, you can check your travel plan in http://www.bahn.de/ which is the website for the German Railways (Deutsche Bahn). As for me I was travelling from Baden-Württemberg, a state in Germany which shares the border with France. So, I used a regional ticket called the Baden-Württemberg ticket. This is a group ticket also using which a maximum of 5 people can travel in the entire state of Baden-Württemberg and a few neighbouring cities of this state for e.g. Basel (Switzerland). I was traveling with a group of 4 people and we used this ticket to go to Kehl. Kehl is a city in Germany and just across the river Rhein is the city of Strasbourg. (Refer the map below)

In Kehl, you can buy Strasbourg city ticket (group city tickets as well) and you can buy them in Tabac shops at the central station in Kehl. These group tickets can be used for all the local transports available in the city of Strasbourg. A group ticket can be used for a max. of 3 people and costs 6€ valid for 24 hours from the time of purchase. And a single 24 hours ticket costs 3€. You can take a bus from Kehl to a tram stop in Strasbourg called Jean Jaurès. From there you can take trams C and D which will take you to the city center in Strasbourg. Hint: When in the tram and heading towards the city, be on the lookout for some beautiful bridges and beautiful old monuments, which you can of course come back and visit later. (Refer to the map below) 

So after taking the tram C, me and my friends were in the city centre where we had an amazing apartment waiting for us. I always book my travel accommodation by https://www.airbnb.com/ and it has always been a flawless and fabulous experience. And walking to my apartment from the tram stop, I got the first impressions about the city. It was full of old beautiful architecture and beautiful boutiques of fashion clothing. The narrow alleys made something which I call the "French Connection". 

Anyways, before you start your sight-seeing tour of the city, it is highly recommended you go to the tourist information centre which is next to the famous cathedral.

Just find your way to the cathedral and you will find this tourism office there. In there you can buy a Strasbourg pass. Using this pass, you can go to a lot of landmarks for free and a discount on the famous boat trip of the city, and many more. This is probably the best starting point of the tour of the city.

Create a shortcut to launch screensaver in Mac OSX Mavericks 10.9.3

Step 1. Open application "Automator". You can also type the name of the application in Spotlight bar (Shortcut: Command + SpaceBar).

Step 2. Once you have Automator opened up, click on File and then New. Select Services and click Choose thereafter.

Step 3. In the right panel, select no input in first dropdown and any application in the next dropdown. Then, on the left panel select Start Screen Server. See screenshot below.

Step 4. Click file and then save. Give whatever name you wish. I had chosen "Launch Screensaver" for example. There is a typo in the screenshot (I know :-P)

Step 5. Open System Preferences. Go to Keyboard and then Shortcut. Click on Services in the left panel and then scroll down to find your earlier created service under General. Click on the service and assign it a keyboard shortcut. In the screenshot, you will see that i had assigned cmd+alt+ctrl+L. Assign something which you feel is easy to remember and most importantly, unique.

Step 6. Test your shortcut and service. You should be ready to go.
