Sure! Most of my info will be sourced by PluralPedia [link] but I’ll try to explain it the best I can.

In order to understand fictionkin, you first really need to understand both alterhumanity and otherkin first.

Alterhuman -> a category of personal identity which encompasses identification that is alternative to the common societal idea of humanity.

Otherkin -> individuals who identify integrally as something other than human or not fully human.

The word fictionkin originates from the word fiction + otherkin

This means that fictionkin are a type of otherkin / alterhuman who essentially identify with a species from fictional media or as characters from fictional media.

Depending on the person, their belief could be spiritual, psychological or something else entirely, as fictionkin can be influenced by things such as neurodivergency.

I should also make it clear that fictionkin do not claim to be systems, nor are they roleplayers. Fictionkin CAN enjoy roleplay and can be a system, don’t get me wrong, but they are not the same thing.
