In 1992 I dropped out of design school to go and work as a full time photo assistant at John and Kate Gollings studio. John had asked me do you have a drivers license and a passport ? I said yeah of course. ….. but i cant start work for a few weeks. I put down the phone. Told my mum “I moving to Melbourne”.She burst into tears. I turned around went back to phone and called a driving school. (I did not know how to drive) Then went to passport office and applied for a rushed new passport. I got my license and passport and drove to Melbourne with my Yashica twin lens camera and a little bag of clothes. My first trip with john was to the Island of Naru in the middle of the pacific. I took my Yashica with me every time i took a nap john would take a photo of me with it. We worked 12 hour days 7 days a week. I like this place its actually a really nice workspace. I come here and it's like very calm. It's very quiet. No one's around. I get stuff done. This is my productive space. I don't like having a lot of stuff, so my house is the opposite of this. So this is purely business stuff. It needs to be organized. I'm very good at purging. I'm cleaning this locker out. I have no desire to have a storage locker. We took the storage locker because the pandemic moved us out of our office space.
