i think Luffy is the kind of person who would kiss the strawhats directly on the mouth as a platonic form of greeting and here’s how i think the others would respond:

Zoro: he just accepts it. doesn’t initiate them, but if he sees Luffy coming, he just angles his head to accept it bc fighting it is functionally useless.

Nami: pre-arlong park, she would have refused any attempts. post-arlong park, she will accept them as long as Luffy is not on her shit list. she has also learned to just accommodate them. may occasionally ask for one after a particularly harrowing or stressful battle.

Usopp: thinks Luffy is joking about it and is like yeah sure lay one on me, but then realizes he likes feeling included so he accepts them. too proud to initiate or ask for them, but is very chuffed when he gets them.

Sanji: is absolutely weirded out when he sees it happen, especially with zoro, but zoro makes so much fun of him for being scared that he finally relents out of spite. he secretly wanted them the whole time.

Vivi: clearly the type to be swept up in strawhat shenanigans. she accepts them after they all explain Luffy is just Like That and he’s not into her romantically.

Chopper: does not like his mouth kissed. he will accept forehead kisses and top of head kisses and also squeezes. does his little sheepish dance every time.

Robin: she knows what Luffy is about. she mouth kisses him first.

Franky: who is he to criticize a family routine? lay one on me, brother.

Brook: he’d accept a kiss… if only he had lips!! Yohoho! he and Luffy touch their teeth together. Robin had to emphasize to Luffy that he needs to be gentle when he does this so that they don’t lose their teeth. he races full speed at Brook and then puts his breaks on and gently taps their teeth together. Brook would cry if he had eyes!

Jimbei: he is Luffy’s peepaw so he takes it in stride. he laughs out loud in disbelief when he first gets smooched, but then he starts kneeling when he sees Luffy coming and lets him climb up onto his shoulders after.

My favorite part whenever a new straw hat joins the crew is watching their unraveling, as they realize that these freaks are always at an 11 and they cannot bring it down. At first they’re like, oh god how am I gonna handle this?? Then, they slowly start losing it until they’re also at a constant 11 and cannot bring it down.

because i adore how he has this way of answering any ringing snail call, and with each new situation it feels it's escalating in importance of who is on the other side of the call! it's hilarious!

One of the most heartbreaking and powerful moments in all of One Piece.

I don’t care how many times I’ve seen it, the moment Luffy screams,

“Without you, I can’t be Pirate King!”

…and Sanji finally breaks down, it hits just as hard every single time.

Sanji was the first person Luffy ever said that to. That wasn’t just a plea. That wasn’t just about being captain. That was Luffy putting Sanji at the center of his dream.

He wasn’t speaking to a fighter. Or a cook.

He was speaking to family.

In that one sentence, Luffy reminded Sanji of something he had forgotten:

He was never just “the cook.” He was always irreplaceable.

I really wanted to use this comic to explore how, while Sanji was aware of how awful his life in Germa was, there was probably a lot of messed up things happening to him that he wouldn't necessarily recognize as abuse, since he had no frame of reference for what a 'normal' childhood looked like.
