I can't stop thinking about this quote from ch44. I can't even really articulate why just... I love it when the most aloof character gets this moment where the depth of what they actually feel is alluded to, even if it's just for a second... Oh Ava my beloved.

I mean… in a way Cold Harbor did kill her.

The Cold Harbor room seems to be the ultimate test of whether love and trauma transcend severance (by specifically using a trigger from her outie’s life).

Mark S’ decision to leave Gemma at the door was him completing the same test as Cold Harbor and proving that love does not in fact transcend severance (for him at least). In that moment, though, outie Gemma has already stepped outside the severed floor, likely to never return. Cold Harbor has effectively killed her 25 innies.

So many of us guessed Cold Harbor itself is what would kill Gemma somehow

But really, it was so much simpler than that. Cold Harbor wasn't going to kill Gemma...it was just the last use for her at Lumon. Once she finished the last test, she was expendable. Mark S too.

"If you've finished the file shes already dead" not because of some complex sci-fi horror saw trap. It's so much simpler than that: if a company has extracted all of the value they see in a worker, they'll discard them without a second thought.

the whole episode was spent establishing that mark s is his own person with his own life and that love does not, actually, transcend severance, and he knows that he’s gonna have to go upstairs eventually so he doesn’t have much time left and of course he’s going to want to spend it with the woman he loves, and people are still like “hehehe sorry gemma markhelly won” and I feel like I’m going insane. mark s/helly won. mark scout/gemma won. they just hammered it into us that innie and outie mark both have lives with the same value!!! this isn’t a ship war!!! Im gonna lose it!!! please go read frankenstein!!!
