Oh man, how much time do you have? To just pick one from work recently, it drives me absolutely nuts when management asks for feedback or criticism with absolutely no intention of listening to it or actually attempting to change to fix the things brought up. That's one of my biggest frustrations in life at the moment.

⛪ What is your religion

So I grew up going to Catholic school, and so obviously now am pretty much agnostic. I don't really believe in any particular religion at this point in my life, but also don't begrudge anyone for their beliefs either as long as they aren't hurting anyone.

As the women approached the house, Thomas rushed out the front door. Before he could say anything, Mrs McManus called out to him.

“Fetch Dr. Burges, quickly!”

Thomas wasted no time and took off right away as he was told.

Meanwhile, Esther led Caroline up to bed, and got her as comfortable as possible while they waited for the doctor to arrive.

It was a perfectly ordinary, though granted, very beautiful spring morning in Copperdale, as Caroline made her way to McManus General Store to pick up some more tea and sugar for her social afternoons with the ladies.

The peaceful morning was broken however, as Caroline suddenly doubled over in pain.

“Mrs. Zehr! Mrs. Zehr, are you alright?”

“The baby…” she gasped, “I think the baby is coming!”

Mrs. McManus rushed out from behind the counter, and without even a moment to grab her bonnet or shawl, rushed to help Caroline back home as quickly as she could.

Story Questionnaire

Thanks for the tag, @historybunnny! You are always so inspiring and encouraging, and I love ya for it ☺️

1) How did you come up with such unique & fascinating characters?

Well, since I've only just start started with the Copperdale story, I don't feel that my characters are that unique or in depth just yet, but hoping definitely to get there! I guess the main thing that would make them stand out somewhat is simply the fact that I wanted to make a story about Canadians, mostly just because I haven't seen much of that on simblr!

2) When you started writing your story, what did you take into consideration?

There were a few main things which were all things I took away from the Finch legacy, which I may still revisit some day. The main thing was that I wanted to flex my creative writing muscles this time around- getting much more in depth with characters and descriptions, rather than the more snapshot style of Finch. In a similar vein, I'm planning much more ahead this time, which I think will help in writing a more developed story. Finally, this time around I'm using a more realistic aging system, which I think will really help in making a more realistic story and help to create a more logical progression as well.

3) How did you shape each character’s background/family?

So for Thomas, firstly, I knew he had to work on the railway, because it's just the most Canadian History *TM thing that I can think of. The building of the railways is such a massive part of our history here that I had to include it directly- plus making it what his father did as well just made sense as to how he got involved in that work to begin with, and then also for a reason to travel west to Ontario. Also decided to make him from Halifax purely because I was listening to Stan Rogers' "Barrett's Privateers".

As for Caroline, I wanted her to have a more wealthy upbringing, mostly just to have something of a foil to Thomas' working class background. I'm hoping to lean more into her more posh tendencies and conceptions about the world as the story goes on- so look forward to that! Also, I just wanted to have a Canadian immigrant quite early on in the story, if only to shout out my own family, none of whom were in Canada before the 1900s actually, so Caroline has me beat lol!

4) Do you plan everything before starting, or are you more spontaneous?

In the past I have been much more spontaneous, but this time around planning is the name of the game, if only just for the sake of challenging myself. That's not to say I have the entire thing planned, I'm still leaving myself room for things to change and develop as I go, but I do already have ideas for as far ahead as the 2010s.

5) Does reality inspire you, or do you rely more on your imagination?

Definitely a bit of both, but I'd say leaning more into reality for the most part just because it is a historically inspired story.

6) When did you KNOW you were going to make this story?

Basically ever since it dawned on me that I hadn't seen any other explicitly Canadian simblr stories, I became kind of obsessed with the idea of making this story. Then after puttering around in CAS and creating Thomas and Caroline, I was off to the races.

7) What has shaped your story into being the way it is?

Oh my gosh, all the encouragement and help developing ideas I've had from all sorts of people, but in particular @antiquatedplumbobs, @historybunnny, and @aheathen-conceivably who are just amazing cheerleaders and have given great feedback parts of my story both released and not! You guys are truly amazing. Good eggs, all of ya.

Museum, 100000%!!! I absolutely love museums- they are some of my favourite places in the world. Actually got a museum date planned for the end of the month which I'm very excited for.

42. what’s one regret you have?

My biggest regrets in life all kind of come from the same thing- always wishing I had done something sooner. Whether that's figuring out what job I want before going to school, coming out as non-binary, or asking out my partner- have to always keep reminding myself though that things will always happen in their own time, and maybe the wait I had was an important part of the process.

With the little one on the way, since Thomas was not currently on any contract with the railway, he decided to do some work for Old Man Gingrich at his farm on the edge of town, just for a little income.

He found that he actually very much enjoyed farm work, as it was considerably less dangerous than the railroad, but more than anything he loved the opportunity to be working outside again.

In the weeks and months that followed, the little cottage was alive with visitors. Caroline loved playing host to the ladies of Copperdale, all of whom were thrilled by the news of a new baby in town.

Even Mildred Campbell had to admit that Caroline had quite a lovely glow about her now that she was expecting. Finally, Caroline began to feel that she belonged in this little town that had embraced her so.

Each morning, Caroline found herself feeling increasingly queasy. One morning, forever, as she looked at herself in the mirror, she started to notice some changes had come over her, and quickly began to realize what it meant.

She called out for Thomas who came running in a hurry. “What is it, my love?” he asked, worried her illness had progressed.

“Thomas, my darling,” she smiled at last, “I do believe that I am going to be a mother!”

Seeing Caroline’s passion and skill for painting continue to develop, Thomas decided to turn one of the rooms in the cottage into a lovely studio for her.

Caroline loved her studio, and spent most of her spare time there, sometimes painting still-lifes but more often touching up the landscapes she had already started.

As the days went on, she appreciated the studio more and more, as she started to find herself feeling too unwell to head out into the wilderness to paint.
