Here's where I point out that the Red Engine visiting (or, of course, on loan) from the mainland that went to push Henry out of the tunnel was, in Awdry's own sketches, a 4-4-0. It's never stated this is Edward, and in fact likely specifically isn't because probably by this point the NWR doesn't exist. However, if we do fudge things a little, we could absolutely have Compounds on the island, and I personally think that's the most likely thing that said engine could be, a late hanger-on, and Dalby just did his Dalby thing with everything but the most basic details. However, that doesn't mean Emily wouldn't have a role on expresses, the Compounds could be (slightly mis-)used for primarily goods work after all, but the few times they're assigned to passenger trains, or during the operating peak, double-headed passenger trains...

I had a thought occur to me the other day. The last Stirling Singles retired in 1916... I think it's easy enough to say Emily could've arrived on the island during WW1. The fun part is who she has to work with though. The Island Of Sodor book says the NWR borrowed primarily from two mainland railways.

Dreams like a profitable (which it shouldn't need to be, but it does for it to be viewed as worthwhile) public transit ecosystem that's so well fleshed out that some have called it unnecessarily well connected and stocked (and I'd say those people are poisoned by the modern day), old cities that haven't had the auto industry lobby kill them yet, and most likely as flagrant a disregard for Thatcher as they'd had for the BTC/BRB so probably still decent work? Those dreams?

I'm imagining, and buying tickets to get to Barrow. Shouldn't be hard to get there from there, right?

I aspire to have enough money to make this (either the green bounding box or the pink one) in either 00 or P4. HO would give a little more room, and TT and N even moreso on top of that, but those have way less stuff made for them than 4mm does.

No, I didn't have to go back and reread some of my older works that feature the area to try to picture it again, why would you insinuate that?
