Red Wine Supernova - Robin. It's slightly dorky but still smooth. "Fell in love with the thought of you" "I just want you to make a move" I also love the idea of the "roommates" just being Steve.

After Midnight: Either Chrissy or Nancy. They both kinda fit the "good girl" trope but have a lot under the service, Chrissy with going to Eddie for drugs, Nancy and her monster hunting. We also see Nancy "rebelling" in season one before everything starts. "My mother said...it's not attractive wearing that dress and red lipstick" "I've been a good, good girl for a long time" "I like flirting, a lover by my side" They both deserve to just have fun at the club.

Coffee: Jopper, when Joyce is with Bob. "If I didn't love you, it would be fine" "We've done this before" "Every place leads back to you"

Casual: Robin. She would likely settle for someone who hides her, based off the way she's talked about Vickie. "My friend's call me a loser" compared to Steve trying to get her to ask her out. "I love being stupid" "I try to be the chill girl but honestly, I'm not."

Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl: Max, honestly. Or El! Elmax. But like, early 20s Elmax. "Not overdramatic, I know what I want" "I'm through with all these super mega bummer boys" "Telling secrets, there on the mattress" compared to their sleepovers.

HOT TO GO!: I... have no clue. El is the closest, just in terms of the fun, energetic vibes. It feels very teen girl, in the same way she does to me

My Kink Is Karma: I want it to be Joyce so bad. Or Karen. Joyce about her ex, when he first starts to go downhill. Karen just matches the energy to me.

Picture You: Jancy, but college-Jancy. "Am I doing research in a mini skirt at the library in your hometown?" "Counting lipstick stains where you should be" "Am I in the frame for your point of view?"

Kaleidoscope: Byler. "It will all be fine, just go back to being friends" "Even all the change, it's somehow all the same" "Even upside down, it's beautiful somehow" Both as the Upside Down joke, but also how Will still sees being gay as scary and wrong, something away from what he "should" be, like it's upside down. "I will never understand"

Pink Pony Club: This really doesn't fit anyone super well. I do love the idea of it being the older teens finally getting out and just getting to have fun. Maybe Robin finally goes to a gay club!

Naked In Manhattan: Ronance. "The rush of slumber party kissing" "An inch away from more than just friends" Just so Ronance.

California: El and Will. "I was never told that I wasn't gonna get the things I want the most" being peace. "Come get me out of California, no leaves are brown" I think Will would miss the environment. "Thought I'd be cool in California, I'd make you proud" El talking about Hopper. "My dying town"

Guilty Pleasure: Nancy, just for the line "Some good girls do bad things too"

"Yeah, I'll see you next year," Steve says as yet another girl turns him down. As soon as she's out the door, he turns to Robin. "I swear I'm striking out like I did at Scoops Ahoy."

"No, I don't think so. I think you're doing much worse," Robin replies with a laugh. "But really it's very entertaining. A great way to end my year."

Steve runs a hand through his hair and turns back to his abandoned stack of tapes only to turn back around as soon as the bell above the door rings. He turns around with a heavy sigh as soon as he realizes who it is.

"Great to see you too," Eddie says with a humorless laugh.

Robin cuts in before Steve can. "Don't take it personally. He's just unsuccessful in his mission to woo a lady and get a New Year's kiss."

"Really?" Eddie asks, leaning across the counter.

"I think I'm coming across as desperate."

"Because you are," Robin adds unhelpfully.

Steve shrugs. "Well sorry I'm a romantic."

"Sorry that you've never gone a year without a New Year's kiss since, what, middle school?" Robin asks, grabbing a stack of tape to put back on the shelves.

"Yes, and I don't want to break the tradition now."

Robin rolls her eyes as she walks away, and Eddie props his chin on his hand. "You're actually struggling to find someone?"

That's an understatement. Steve has gone beyond struggling and is full-on failing at the task at hand. "At this point, I would take anyone."

"Even me?" Eddie asks with a wide smile.

Steve stares at him for a moment and considers it, eyes dipping down to his full lips and back up at him. "Let's see if I can get anyone else first."

Eddie's hands dramatically clutch his chest. "You wound me, Steve. Am I really last choice for you?"

Steve raises his eyebrows at him and deadpans, "Absolutely."

Instead of the dramatic response, Steve expects, Eddie instead leans over the counter and lowly says, "I can change your mind about that if you'll let me."

Steve laughs and leans forward. "Yeah? How's that?"

Eddie runs a hand through Steve's hair, sending chills down his body as he lightly scrapes his nails on his scalp. His hand then settles on the back of Steve's head and drags him in close to whisper, "I guess we'll have to wait to see at midnight."

With that, Eddie gives him a wink and steps back. "Robin, tell me what movie to watch while I waste away the rest of this year."

Robin peaks her head out from a shelf and waves him over, and Steve doesn't register anything they're saying because he's too stuck on what the hell just happened between him and Eddie. Because yeah, he's a little kiss-starved and attention-starved, but even when he's given into his desperation with random girls, it didn't ever feel so... electrifying.

He snaps out of his bout of confusion when someone walks into the store. He perks up a bit when he notices it's a girl who is not only pretty but also very much alone. Steve gets his hopes up a bit as he does his spiel, "Hi, welcome to Family Video, is there anything I can help you with?"

The girl looks Steve up and down and lightly bites her lip before answering, "Yes actually. I'm looking for a romantic comedy. Something to give me some hope when going into the new year."

"You need hope when it comes to romance, too?" Steve asks as he leads her over to the romance section.

She giggles and twirls a strand of blonde hair around her finger. "Yes, but I was wishing it would come sooner. Maybe around midnight?"

Steve nods and chuckles. "Yeah, I know the feeling."

The girl is quick to find a tape and bring it to the register where Steve rings her up. As he hands her the tape, she asks, "So, do you have any plans tonight?"

And this is Steve's moment. He looks her up and down, staring at pink lip gloss smeared over full lips then her brown eyes that are... not brown enough. It's like they're missing the depth that Steve is used to for some reason as if he's expecting...

Steve swallows and glances around the store, spotting the head of curly hair quickly as he watches the interaction. Eddie gives him a thumbs up accompanied by a sad smile, but Steve gives him a genuine smile back. "Actually, I do have plans tonight."

The girl gives him a small oh before quickly hurrying out of the store, and Steve can't feel too bad about disappointing the girl when he sees a light blush spread over Eddie's cheeks.

"So, you do have plans?" Eddie presses as he makes his way back to the counter.

"It seems like I do," Steve replies, leaning across the counter.

"Mhm," Eddie hums and looks down, "And what happened to me being your last option?"

"I seemed to come to my senses," Steve flirts easily.

Eddie smiles and pulls a few strands of hair in front of his face, unsuccessfully hiding his blush. "So, I'll see you at midnight then?"

"I'll see you then," Steve says with a wink, his eyes following Eddie all the way out of the store and into his van.

Robin slowly makes her way to Steve's side and asks, "You know that he just stole a tape, right?"

Steve shrugs. "I'll make sure to let him know."

"And we're going to discuss everything that happened just now this year or....?"

"I'll save the panic for next year," Steve decides.

Robin smiles at him. "Good idea. You have other things to do tonight."

Steve laughs loudly and finds himself unable to stop smiling for the rest of their shift.

As he drops Robin off at her house, he gives her an obnoxious kiss on the cheek and says, "Happy New Year."

Robin scrunches her nose up as she wipes at her cheek, but she can't stop the smile that's spreading on her face. "Happy New Year, and have fun tonight!"

"I will!"

As soon as Robin is safely inside, Steve speeds off toward Eddie's trailer, trying to push down his nerves by giving himself a pep talk that he knows Robin would make fun of him for. He'll have to leave that part out when he retells everything to her tomorrow.

When he gets to Eddie's, he takes a minute to fix his hair in the mirror before making his way to his door and knocking quickly.

Eddie opens it with a surprised look on his face. "A big part of me thought you were joking."

"And if I wasn't?" Steve asks, hoping Eddie himself wasn't joking about the whole thing.

Eddie's eyes flicker down to his lips. "Then I'd let you know that we don't have to wait until midnight to kiss. There are no rules against kissing before then after all."

Steve smiles so wide, his face starts to ache. "You're right. There are definitely no rules about that."

Eddie almost immediately tugs him inside and is quick to close the door behind him before cupping his face and leaning in. "And you're sure you're not joking about this?"

"Absolutely," Steve says as his hands lightly rest on Eddie's back.

"Well, Happy New Year's Eve to me then," Eddie jokes before closing the distance between them and pulling Steve into a kiss that makes his entire being light up in a way that rivals all the fireworks that go off that night.

As they gently pull away, Steve whispers against Eddie's lips, "You're never going to be my last choice ever again."

"Yeah?" Eddie asks with a smile.

"Yeah," Steve says, kissing him again.

They lose track of time that night, but they still manage to get in a New Year's kiss at midnight. As they drift off in the early morning hours, Eddie announces that 86' may not have been his year, but 87' sure will be. And Steve can't help but think the same thing.

Lover - steddie and byler. twofer, here. “i’m highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you” steve being popular in high school and everyone hitting on will throughout the show. “with every guitar string scar on my hand, i take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover” eddie with his guitar and “king” steve. “my hearts been borrowed and yours has been blue. alls well that ends well to end up you.” mike “borrowing” his heart out to el, but eventually ending up together. “swear to be over dramatic and true” eddie.

The Man - nancy. we’ve seen her getting frustrated with the blatant sexism in her field, being ignored and pushed down for being a woman. “they’d say i played the field before i found someone to commit to” and the slut shaming in season one. “when everyone believes ya, what’s that like?” and getting ignored and made fun of at her job in season 2. the bridge can also apply to guys in her life. “ranking in dollars and getting bitches and models” steve and tommy in season one (i’m willing to assuming tommy and steve bragged about getting with girls before carol and nancy) “and it’s all good if you’re bad and it’s okay if your mad” billy

The Archer - nancy again. “i’m ready for combat” always on edge after what happened with barb, always ready for the upside down to come back. “i’ve got a hundred thrown out speeches i almost said to you” we see her struggling wanting to open up in season 2, with her guilt with steve and letting barbs parents know what happened. “i ride off alone” becoming a bit of a loner and not making new friends after barb. “who could ever leave me darling? but who could stay?” her and steve breaking up, having issues with jonathan now. “all of my hero’s die all alone” barb died alone. she’s watching her mom raise them pretty much alone, with little to no help from her dad. “all of my enemies started out friends” her vecna traumas were her friends and peers. “they see right through me. can you see right through me?” having a strong shield but being scared and broken under it all

Miss Americana and The Heartbreak Prince - stancy, when they got back together between season one and two. “i saw the scoreboard and ran for my life” nancy leaving after everything that happened. “we’re so sad we paint the town blue” both grieving and processing. “they whisper in the hallway she’s a bad bad girl” and the cheating rumors during season one. mainly, nancy is the perfect girl next door troupe on first glance, miss americana, the perfect symbol. steve is known for being smooth and popular and a flirt, a heartbreaker kinda deal

Paper Rings - jopper. “i’ve waited my whole life” “i hate accidents except when we went from friends to this” “without all the ex’s, fights, and flaws, we wouldn’t be standing here so tall” they have their little family cause of their past, cause of the fights and exs and mistakes. joyce would also love just a little wedding in the back yard with inexpensive rings and just surrounded by their family and friends

Cornelia Street - steddie. I KNOW I SAY EVERY LOVE SONG IS STEDDIE BUT AHHHHH. anyways. “i get mystified by how this city screams your name” eddie thought king steve was still the king. “jacket around my shoulder is yours” eddie’s battle vest. “barefoot in the kitchen” so many steddie fics have them dancing or cuddling in the kitchen. SO MANY. and i think steve loves VERY deeply and would wrap around love like this.

Death By A Thousand Cuts - el and mike AND lumax. “chandeliers still flickering here” el messing with the lights with her powers. “i see you everywhere. the only thing we share is this small town” lucas seeing max at school but not being able to talk to her. “i look through the windows of this love even though we boarded them up” lucas wanting to try again, el fighting for mike back. “trying to find a part of me that you didn’t touch” mike helped el form who she is. “searching for signs in a haunted club” max’s happy place was the snow ball. “paper cut stings from our paper thin plans” el with the “from mike” letters.

False God - jancy. “the ocean separating us” and then going long distance. “the road gets hard when your guided by blind faith” the recent troubles in their relationship. i also just adore the idea of nancy viewing love as religious. like, she’s seen all the worst the world can give, with the upside down, losing her best friend, etc. easy to imagine her losing faith through that, so clinging on to something good she has in a religious since, like worshiping love or finding religion in being loved

You Need To Calm Down - el. i just think she’d like it

Afterglow - nancy. with who is up to you. but i think she has a tendency to self destruct and taking things out on the wrong people. see blowing up at steve when feeling guilty or fighting with her mom and jonathan when stressed. pushing away those there for her, even with being cold to robin at first. “put you in jail for something you didn’t do” “thought i had reason to attack, but no” “why’d i have to break what i love so much” “tell me that we’ll be just fine even when i lose my mind”

ME! - byler. “troubles gonna follow where i go” wills tied to the upside down. “i know i tend to make it about me” mike kinda ignoring will in season 3 and 4. “when we had that fight out in the rain” “living in winter, i am your summer” idk why but just really reminds me of them

Daylight - joyce. “love was as cruel as the cities i lived in” her ex was awful, and she wasn’t treated well by the town when will was missing. “i became the butt of the joke” “clearing the air, i breathed in the smoke” she used to skip class to smoke with hopper. “maybe i stormed out of every single room in this town” “in a 20-year dark night” i know it’s been longer since her and hooper met, but life without him in her day to day and then getting him back. the whole end is so her. “i just think that you are what you love”

…Ready For It? - jancy. the whole “i’ve known i wanted you since we first met” kinda vibe really fits them i think. “some boys are trying too hard, he don’t try at all though. younger than my ex’s but he acts like such a man” sorry steve. “knew i was a robber first time that he saw me. stealing hearts and running off” nancy is really the only character we see *multiple* people crushing on. steve and jonathan, of course, but also dustin, fred, arguably robin.

End Game - steddie. “you and me, we got big reputations” king steve and the freak, two sides of some big reputations. “i got some big enemies” being hated by the school and town and the literal upside down. “in rumors, i’m knee deep” “i’ve made mistakes…but something was born on the forth of july” steve’s huge character arch we see in season 3, over the summer.

King Of My Heart: steddieeeeee. okay listen. i love when fics make references to king steve and steve likes the name. i adore royal imagery with them. “we rule the kingdom inside my room” “king of my heart, body and soul” i LOVEEE eddie calling him king steve again, but as like, “you’re the king of my heart” “you’re love is a secret im hoping, dreaming to keep”

Dancing With Our Hands Tied: byler. “i loved you in secret…how were you to know?” “deep blue but you painted me golden” when blue meets yellow in the west. “i loved you in spite of deep fears that the world would divide us” i think mike might be starting to realize his feelings for will while he’s gone, loving him even though he’s scared the distance will hurt them. “dancing like it was the first time”

Dress: ronance. why? idk it just fits. nancy and robin get close, become friends and nancy realizes her feelings for her. i can also see elmax if you remove the sexual elements of the song.

This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things: steve to tommy and carol. “it was so nice throwing big parties” “it was so nice being friends again…but you stabbed me in the back while shaking my hand” tommy leaving him for billy. i just need to see steve lose his shit, honestly.

Call It What You Want: steddie. idk what you want from me, its so steve talking about eddie before they’re official. “my castle crumbled over night…they took the crown but it’s alright” losing “king” title. “nobody’s heard from me in months” falling down the social rankings and living a more “quiet” life (ie no parties and such) “my baby’s fly like a jet stream high above the whole scene” both eddie looking down on social hierarchy and also eddie perched on his chair during campaigns, being literally above the whole scene. “all the jokers dressing up as kings” billy taking his role. “you don’t need to save me, but would you run away with me?” steve maybe talking to eddie about how he can “pay him back” for saving his life or something cute like that.

clean: nancy, talking about her trauma. it was months and months of back and forth. you’re still all over me like a wine stained dress i can’t wear anymore” being clean not from steve, but looking back at the last several years of her life after defeating vecna and finally feeling clean from the upside down and the guilt she felt about barb. “let the flood cary away all my pictures of you” “butterflies turned to dust, they covered my whole room” and finding her room in the upside down

wonderland: elmax. finding a place they can be innocent and kids when everything is scary and knowing it won’t last forever. “haven’t you heard what becomes of curious minds?” “i should have slept with one eye open at night” both el wanting to protect max from vecna and max wanting to protect el from billy. “life was never worse but never better” both having their own struggles and being in bad spots but getting to be together

you are in love: steddie. specifically bonding after season 4. “the light reflects the chain on your neck” “your shoulders brush. no proof, one touch, but you felt enough” “you keep his shirt, he keeps his word” steve with eddie’s battle vest and eddie keeping his word of not running. i can also see this as joyce talking to steve about their guys. like, “he keeps a picture of you in his office downtown” being hop with a pic of his family in his office

new romantics: the older teens. just imagine it; they’re all on a trip to indie after graduation, just running around and having fun. sneaking into a club and finally just getting to be teenagers

“slut!”: nancy. be that with jonathan or robin or even steve. this is the most nancy coded song i’ve heard in a longggg time. “moonlit swimming pool” (sorry) “adorned with smoke on my clothes” steve smoking at the pool party in season one with her “i’ll pay the price, you won’t” nancy always getting hated on but jonathan and steve getting praised “if they call me a slut, you know it might be worth it for once” nancy “the slut” wheeler trying to find love again “if i’m gonna be drunk, i might as well be drunk in love” the halloween party fight in season 2. “everyone wants him, that was my crime. wrong place at the right time. i break down and he’s pulling me in. in a world of boys, he’s a gentleman” going from “king steve” to fighting monsters all because she was in the wrong place just as barb was taken. jonathan helping her out when she was upset and getting her to bed after the fight

say don’t go: mike and el, from el’s perspective in season 4. “i said i love you, you say nothing back” “why’d you whisper in the dark just to leave me in the night” from whispering in mikes basement to mike not being emotionally available, especially after what happened with hopper.

now that we don’t talk: stancy, from both sides. first verse is steve to nancy, second and third are from nancy to steve. last verse is both of them, with steve no longer caring about seeming cool in season 3 (ie being more “dorky” with dustin and stuff) and nancy “returning to her dignity was to turn into a shrouded mystery” becoming more reclusive and closed off to friendships in season 3 and 4 after barb, which she blames herself and steve for

suburban legends: steddie. former lovers steddie, to be specific, from eddie’s perspective. such a good angst story, with the references of loving someone who was “flush with the currency of cool” and talking about high school reunions and breaking your own heart. v steddie coded

is it over now?: stancy again. they’re very harry and taylor coded, what can i say? from nancy’s pov, talking about season 4 when they’re maybe flirting with each other again, just wanting it to be over. “lying traitor” and “bullshit” parallel. “only rumors about my hips and thighs and my whispered sighs” and the movie theatre incident. steve being known as a lady’s man, even brining new dates to watch games at hawkins high

The first thing Robin notices when she wakes up, is the arm hanging over her waist. She notices the warmth of a person pressed against her back, the hand cupped comfortably around her left boob.

She sighs out a contented sound. It's not the first time she wakes up like this, but it's still new enough to revel in it, to cherish every touch, every second of it.

Lips brush softly against her shoulder.

“Good morning,” Nancy's voice whispers in her ear.

Robin feels how her lips curve into a smile, but she's not quite ready to let go of a good night's sleep just yet, so she keeps her eyes shut.

“Good morning,” she mumbles. “Have you been awake for long?”

“An hour, maybe two?”

Robin's eyes finally snap open and she rolls over to be able to see Nancy's face.

“A whole hour?”

Nancy seems unfazed. “You know I'm a morning person,” she says matter-of-factly.

“So you were just lying here for over an hour, doing nothing?” Robin asks, her voice laced with disbelief. “Weren't you bored out of your mind?”

“Not really...” Suddenly, Nancy looks away, that bashful look appearing on her face that she only ever gets around Robin. “It was peaceful, just lying here with you,” she confesses in a quiet voice.

Robin finds herself smiling yet again. She leans forward, presses her lips against Nancy's in a soft kiss that only takes two seconds.

“I love waking up with you,” she says. “You think you can just lie here with me for another hour?”

Nancy makes a noise that sounds suspiciously like a giggle.

“I can try,” she says. “Maybe an hour is a bit long, but I can definitely do a few more minutes...” Her arm slides around Robin again, tugging her closer until their bodies are warmly pressed against each other. She leans forward to press another kiss against Robin's shoulder, then nuzzles her head against Robin's chest, right over her heart.

Robin looks at her: her closed eyes and the relaxed angle of her lips. The curve of her nose. Her disheveled curls. The way her chest rises and falls with the rhythm of her breathing.

She raises her hand and brushes a lock of hair out of Nancy's face.

Yes, on second thought she understands exactly how Nancy could do nothing except lie like this for over an hour.

the prompt list for this year's ronancetober is out!! we decided to make this account as well so that we can archive and comment better on everything that will be created this year :)

for those that don't remember or weren't here for last year, i'll make the "rules"(?) of the challenge clear!! they're not really rules but. guidance!

the challenge is for everyone!!! you don't need to be a writer or an artist or an editor in specific! the prompts were chosen and worded in a way so any form of media is possible :)

we have sixteen ronancetober days; so, the challenge is meant to be a "day in, day out" format! to make it easier to understand: october 1st is day one, october 3rd is day two, yadda yadda yadda, until october 31st, which is meant to be day 16! this means you have a day between the prompts to make the creation process easier!! the days in between can also be used as rest days :))) anyway, it's a way to make it less overwhelming!

you can play with the prompts and interpret them in any way you like! there's no need to follow them in a specific manner and there is no right or wrong.

vampire - s2 stancy, from nancy’s pov. i adore steve, but he wasn’t a great boyfriend to nancy. in this season, she is so clearly struggling with barbs death and he just wanted to move on. “how’s the castle built of people you pretend to care about?” “i’ve made some real big mistakes, but you make the worst one look fine” nancy blames them for barbs death, the worst mistake, and steve is “making it look fine” by trying to just go back to normal. “every girl i ever talked to told me you were bad, bad news” “how do you lie without flinching?” and the dinner scene with barbs parents

lacy - ronance. nancy about seeing robin with steve, thinking she’s jealous that she gets to have steve, when in reality she’s falling for robin and jealous that steve gets to have her. i can also see this being from robins pov without the jealousy undertone.

I saw you like sapphic fiction and Taylor Swift and I've just gotta ask you: have you heard of Burn the House Down by Kenna Jenkins? It's an alternate history novel abt the 1st woman president and her secret sapphic relationship/bearded marriage with her mlm best friend and has massive Taylor Swift vibes (especially anti hero, last great American dynasty, gold rush, illicit affairs, I Did Something Bad, and champagne problems). It also has a subplot about arson at the White House and ft. An entirely queer main cast and really fleshed out characters!
