I think a lot of people's idea of how religion works is that it's just an oppression factory or something. I'm not even just talking about Christianity here. It's like when people choose to wear clothing specific to their religion and people try to tell them that they're oppressed and they're like no lol my family would support me if I decided against it I chose this of my own free will and people still try to preach to them about their own experience or something.
Like yeah mandatory caveat that you need to believe people about their religious trauma but sometimes it really is fine. Sometimes it's hard to tell when it's fine. Sometimes it's not fine. And that's life. Religions are connected to identity and family and politics and heritage. All extremely messy things that don't have an inherent goodness or badness to them. Religion can be a tool of the oppressor or empowerment for the oppressed. Both things can be true at once. I'm not here trying to make excuses for anyone or anything. I'm just like. It's complicated. It's all complicated. It's more complicated than a lot of you seem to think it is.

Everything You Need to Know About Crystals: Lapis Lazuli
Lapis Lazuli (The Sacred Stone of Wisdom and Power)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Color:  Deep blue flecked with gold
Rarity: Easy to obtain, can be expensive for high quality
Hardiness: 5.5
Type: Isometric/ Metamorphic
Chakra Association: Throat, Brow, Crown
Angels: Sahaqiel
Deities: Nuit, Venus, Isis, Sin
Astrological Signs: Sagittarius, Capricorn
Element: Water, Air
Planet: Venus
Origin: Afghanistan, India, Myanmar, Pakistan, Russia, USA, Italy, Egypt, Middle East, Chile
Powers: Amplification of Power, Reverse Baneful Magic, Connection to the Spirit World, Protection, Wisdom, Mental and Spiritual Blockage
Crystals It Works Well With: Phantom quartz and Purple Tourmaline
How It is Created: Lapis lazuli is a complex mineral made up of lazurite, pyrite, and calcite. The lazurite gives it its deep blue color (along with the sulfur that’s in its matrix), the pyrite gives it its golden veins, and the calcite gives it its white specks.
History: The name comes from the Latin word lapis, meaning stone, and the word lazuli which means blue. It was first mined in Afghanistan but it has existed even before then. The Egyptians used lapis lazuli in protective amulets and other jewelry. It was used famously by Egyptian nobility, even its powdered form being used as eyeshadow. Lapis lazuli is said to produce power and wisdom and is associated with the Egyptian goddesses, Isis and Nuit. Romans would ingest the powder in food and drinks as an aphrodisiac and it was also used as an antidote for poisons. It is said that the ring the angel gave King Solomon to control his demon legion of workers was made of lapis lazuli.
What It Can Do:
Open the third eye and balance the throat chakra
Stimulates enlightenment and enhances dream work and psychic abilities
Facilitates spiritual journeys and stimulates personal and spiritual power
Releases stress, bringing deep peace
Protective stone that contacts spirit guardians
Recognizes psychic attacks, blocks them, and return the energy back to the source
Teaches the power of the spoken word and can reverse curses
Alleviates pain, especially with migraines
Overcomes depression, benefits the respiratory and nervous systems, cleanse organs and the immune system
Harmonizes the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels such as: lack of purpose, disease, and depression
Encourages taking charge in your life
Can amplify powerful thoughts and stimulate higher faculties of one’s mind
Bonds relationships in love, friendship and aid in expressing feelings
How to Get the Best Out Of: With a lot of these visionary stones, I am always going to recommend a bracelet or necklace. Anything that is close to the bloodstream or heart will help the power of the stone connect to you best with these types of stones.
How to Cleanse and Charge: Using incenses or a singing bowl to cleanse lapis lazuli. Lay it on a clear quartz disc or bowl over night under the moon to recharge it. Do not put under the sunlight. It will discolor the stone. (I made this mistake and was heavily scolded by Isis afterwards)
Crystal Grid:
Healthy Body (Sacred Geometry: Metatron’s Cube or Sri Yantra)
Mantra “I trust my body’s ability to heal itself”
Center stone: Quartz sphere
Secondary Stones: Bloodstone, Carnelian, Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Quartz
Moon Phase: Dark Moon
Day: Saturday

1899 & DARK Astrology (Western & Vedic) Life, Death & Rebirth HASTA Nakshatra
[Part 3]
Tumblr media
PART 1 BHARANI & UTTARA BHADRAPADA
PART 2 Deeper into BHARANI & UTTARA BHADRAPADA, Plus UTTARA PHALGUNI
Tumblr media
HASTA is symbolized by HANDS. Hands allow us to create, connect, and communicate.
It weaves, constructs and directs.
Hasta is VIRGO, and therefore mercurial. This energy is quick, agile, and fickle. Think of fidgeting hands = ANXIOUS ENERGY.
But that's because there's so much mental energy coursing through HASTA natives. They're constantly picking up on information, searching, learning, curious and questioning.
Like hairs on the arms, there are thousands of antennas shifting the sensation of their perception, which can lead to being easily overwhelmed, overridden with other people's ideas and projections or not having an outlet to direct their energy so that their minds can rest and settle down, even if just for a moment. This can lead to vices that are numbing, in order to ease their erratic nature.
Tumblr media
The actress that plays Maura Franklin, the lead character in 1899 has a HASTA moon.
The writer of the show, Jantje Friese, also has this placement.
When we're introduced to Maura, we experience her recollection of a traumatic experience in what appears to be a mental hospital or facility where she is kept.
She's asking where her brother is, and she's held back against her will. She says she wants to remember, but they inject her with something to forget.
HASTA is skilled, intelligent and capable. The character is a good example of this. She's a doctor, in a time when female doctors are uncommon, and immediately we see she's willing to help, and is confident enough to apply her skills.
Tumblr media
WARNING
SPOILER:
We realize it's not her father, but that she's doing it to herself, and possibly her son, too, reflecting the Hasta energy of control over the uncontrollable situation. She's keeping them both in a fantasy land, but this may be only another layer to the story, with more nuances to be revealed later on in Season 2.
Although Virgo/Mercury are prevalent, the HASTA Nakshatra is ruled by the MOON, which further supports the ability for these natives to get carried away with their emotions, and feel that there is something hidden from them, that there's always more to understand, and how overwhelming it can feel to be a seeker.
Maura's father, Henry Singleton, says:
"We're born into this world either a seeker or an avoider. To be an avoider is pure bliss. To be a seeker, on the other hand, brings nothing but pain."
Tumblr media
When there's a healthy level of acceptance, HASTA natives are cunning, quick and sly.
If they can channel their mental and emotional energy toward good, they're very capable and can easily create tangible results.
Think of what hands are capable of—A LOT. Good or bad, they hold a lot of power.
What do you wish to say or do?
It's restless, because it holds the universe, and all that wishes to expand.

Guessed Melanie Martinez’s D60 True Node Ketu correct on the first try
She has D60 True Node Ketu in Pisces, which I based off of her wide-set, large and round, dreamily sloopy-like eyes and rounded oval fish-like face shape. I originally guessed Purva Bhadrapada due to her gothic style, but she has D60 True Node Ketu in Revati of Pisces.
She is also a double D60 Ketu in Pisces as she has D60 Mean Node Ketu in Uttara Bhadrapada of Pisces as well, which may contribute to her gothic style
She also mentioned that she was a tropical Scorpio ascendant in one of her Instagram posts, which likely makes her a Swati of Libra ascendant based on her build and height as well as eccentric appearance connected to Rahu in Swati in the 1H conjunct the ascendant

Thanatos Deity Guide
Tumblr media
Who is Thanatos?
Thanatos is the personification or the spirit of death. In this way, Thanatos is considered a daimon in the original meaning, a spirit.
Thanatos was often depicted as a young male with wings, but occasionally he was depicted as an older man with a beard. He as well as his twin brother, Hypnos, are seen in ancient art holding torches turned upside down.
His role in mythology is a psychopomp—a being who carries the souls of the dead to the underworld. Though he was often referred to in myths, he rarely appeared physically.
Parents and Siblings
Nyx (mother)
Erebos (father in some myths)
with his being mother, Nyx, has many siblings. Most notibly:
Hypnos (twin brother)
The Keres (sisters)
Geras (brother)
Eris (sister)
Nemesis (sister)
The Moirai (sisters)
Apate (sister)
Charon (brother)
Lovers or Partners
Makaria according to some
Children
None
Epithets
Mors (Roman)
Letum (Roman)
Paian (Healer or Striker)
Acherontis (Woeful)
Leukokhrotos (White-Skin)
Notes
Though there are no ancient cults known to be dedicated to Thanatos, there have been traces of sacrifices left to him as well as a temple in Sparta.
In one myth, Zeus commands Hypnos and Thanatos to carry the dead body of the warrior Sarpedon off of the battlefield and to the country of Lykia so that he could be given a proper burial.
Other popular stories involving Thanatos are the story of Sisyphus and the story of Hercules wrestling Thanatos.
Thanatos has been depicted in art as a youth holding a butterfly or an inverted torch. The former represents a soul (the greek word for butterfly can also mean life or soul), and the ladder represents a life having been extinguished. He is also seen with a wreath of poppies or a sword.
In art and literature, Thanatos is also depicted as a cloud or mist that hangs above a person’s head who is soon to die.
He lives in the Underworld with his twin brother.
In some myths he is considered cruel, in others, he is considered sweet, as he is peaceful death. The descriptors chosen would likely depend on the writer’s outlook on death.
Modern Deity Work

Finding love through sharing pain, sorrow, and loss. ❤️‍🩹🌹🍎
A study based on Adam and Eve after the Fall (Adam og Eva efter Syndefaldet) by Johan Vilhelm Gertner & inspired by the recent painting of @greypetrel. 💙 Had been quite a long time for me younger Aphrodite and Ares in their own Bronze Age Cypriot (Alashiyan) clothing (with jewelry ornaments came from all over Greece, Anatolia, Egypt, Levant, Mesopotamia) and Mycenaean Greek clothing.
Both of them met at a strange time and a strange place, outside the constraints of time and space. A spark between them would be created based on their sharing of grieving deceased mortal human lovers, bloomed into the flowers of close friendship bonds and ripened into the fruits of love. Aphrodite was still that brash, independent young woman during this time and until now, impulsive, ambitious and calculating, can be both kind or careless with other’s feelings, property, or even their lives. Ares, himself, was still hated and reviled by his family members, especially Zeus; and quite different from the later older, mature, and wiser bearded Ares that I usually drew him as.

I wish you hell: Hex
Tumblr media
This is a hex for when someone has taken advantage of your kindness and love. Best used when you’ve done nothing but wish well, and help someone and they’ve done nothing but hurt you in return.
What you’ll need:
A dandelion or a flower cut out of paper
A lighter
A windy day (Optional but adds power to the intent)
A list of ways they hurt you.
Start by writing a list of all the ways you were hurt and used by this person. Fold that into the smallest square you can. Put this to the side.
Take the dandelion or paper flower in one hand and a lighter in the other. and say “I wished you well, you gave me hell. Now I’ll wish to you what you gave to me.” And flick the lighter, and burn the flower. If you are doing this outside on a windy day, feel the breeze and picture your intent flowing out in the breeze.
Then take the folded list, dig a small hole and bury it.

some slavic magical beliefs and prohibitions: pregnancy, birth, children
as we know, one of the most impactful and faithfully followed aspects of slavic folk magic (and many other folk magical beliefs across the world) is the active effect enacted on one thing by another: in short, the effect one thing can have on another by a certain action performed, such as rubbing one thing on another, rolling it over it, dragging it under it, wrapping, throwing, stabbing, all those fun things.
for example, rolling an egg on your cow before letting it our to graze for the first time in spring will ensure it gets nicely fat and round like that egg. you can bathe your newborn child in a bath with some eggs in it, too, so it grows nicely fat and round as well.
of course, such magical actions can be performed in good faith - or the absolute opposite, causing harm and suffering. but! they can also happen… accidentally.
from this stems the overwhelming plethora of magical prohibitions and warnings: things you should look out for because if you do this, accidentally, it will have terrible consequences. we’ve talked here about magical beliefs and prohibitions when it comes to death and the dead (part two coming, someone hit me with a stick so I post it sooner) but I’d like to give you some other examples, tied more to the living (still).
the theme for today will be pregnancy, birth, and newborn children (tagged appropriately if you find the subject of pregnancy and birth upsetting)
pregnancy:
- a pregnant woman should not eat rabbit meat, or her child will be born cowardly and nervous as the hare, and with wild bulging eyes.
- she should not eat meat from animals killed by a wolf, either, or the child will be born with terrible, red, wound-like marks on the body.
- she should not eat anything made from seeds kept in the same bag used to feed horses, or her pregnancy will… last 12 months, as long as that of a horse, and the babe will not want to come out earlier.
- she should be careful not to step over a cat, or the child will be born hairy like a kitten. she should not step over her chickens or geese, either, or the child will be born with feathers.
- she should never step over a threshold that is cracked or has a deep mark from an axe on it, as the child will be born with a cleft lip.
- she should always carry a needle with her: the iron will protect her and the baby, and the babe will be born healthy and free of colic or convulsions. if not a needle, she must carry a knife - and then make sure that once the baby is born, the knife always lies beneath the cradle.
birth:
- if the birth is difficult, everything in the woman’s vicinity should be untied: her braid should be undone, and so should be all the ribbons and belts on clothing. buttons should be undone, too. all knots untangled.
- if that does not help, things should be open: windows, doors, chests, jars. whatever can be opened or undone, do it, and the babe will come more easily.
- to cheat evil powers that would want to meddle with the woman or the babe, the midwife should wear the clothing of a man: the demons will assume the birth is not yet happening, if a man is there.
- another way to cheat evil is powers is: after a woman gives birth, the oldest woman in the household (preferably a great-grandmother at least) should go out of the house, stand in front of it and shout so loud that everyone in the village hears:
“so that everyone knows and so that a child is healthy! a she-wolf bore a wolf pup!“
demons won’t steal a wolf baby, or even come near it. (perhaps the root for the naming of children “wolf” in some traditions)
- the third night after birth is often seen as the night when the child’s fate is decided: to cheat evil powers, a woman should take the babe from the cradle and hide it, or give it to the neighbours. in the little’s one place some rags should be put, or a ball from her makitra.
newborns:
- to the newborn’s bath, one should add an egg (so the child is round and plump, and healthy) or a silver coin (so it is healthy and free from evil)
- be wary of what you put in the little one’s cradle, or next to it: a book will make your child smart, a goshawk’s feather will make them swift, but a mirror will make them vain.
- do not utter certain words in the vicinity of the newborn child, or the child will become alike to that word: do not say frog, or hare, or worm. do not talk of devils, demons, nightmares - and do not talk about the dead.
- ensure your household is safe from evil that would want to steal or hurt the babe by putting thorns on the threshold, on the windowsill, above the door. use dog rose, thistle, or stinging nettle, or hawthorn, or blackthorn. even if you throw them away later, the borders of your house will sting and hurt whatever tries to sneak in. (including witches)
- put some harrow teeth underneath the cradle, and your child will be brave - and safe from evil.
- to ensure the baby is safe from evil: when a beggar knocks on your door or stops you on your way, offer them the child as alms. let them hold the baby and only then take it, and give them money or food. the demons will be fooled into believing you… have no baby anymore and there’s nothing to steal.
- a similar way of ensuring the demons won’t want to steal your baby is to pretend you found it. just do it, just pretend, over the cradle: “o! what is this! is this some kind of baby? I might take it, even though it is not mine.” openly calling your little one “not-mine” or “no-one’s” or “found” will work as well.
do add some examples from your regions, if you have any - I’d love to learn more, and I think the subject is especially rich in beliefs and superstitions*.
[examples come from Kultura Duchowa Słowian by Kazimierz Moszyński (volume I and II, 1934) and appear in the practices of many slavic peoples, especially from (historical and geographical) regions: Lesser Poland, Red Ruthenia, Belarus, Polesie, Great Rus, Moravia, Bulgaria, Little Rus and Ukraine]

This may be a great big, juicy Controversial Opinion (tm) that I'm throwing out to the wolves here, but I personally feel that if you're gonna go down the path of magic and the occult, you need to just come to terms with the fact that somewhere, at some point, there is going to be something that fucks you up a little bit.

how to get rid of candle wax in chime candle holders
you will need:
a glass cup that can fit the chime candle holder in it
the chime candle holder
(if needed) a toothpick
how to:
microwave water in glass in microwave until bubbling hot
take out of microwave with rag over hands to not burn them or mit
place the chime candle holder in the hot water
let it sit until the wax melts and goes to the surface of the cup.
it will look like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is how it looks when the wax has melted in the candle holder.
take a rag or mit to hold the glass and then pour out the water into the sink drain and the candle holder after the wax has melted.
remove any excess wax if you want to or can. there may still be some on the sides, but it didn’t matter to me because that’s where the candle goes in.
this is what mine ended up looking like. it had wax all inside of the holder but now it’s cleared, aside from some blue wax that’s just not at all blocking the holder holding the candle.

Candle Magic Beyond Colors
Tumblr media
A lot of people talk about color correspondences with candles, but a candle's potential in magic runs way deeper than that! Here's a list of things I don't see people mention as much:
Loading a Candle
Carve out a small hole in the bottom of the candle and stuff it with herbs, a name, whatever else you want to "fill" the candle with.
Carvings
Etch sigils, symbols, names, and other things into the candle before burning! (I like the idea of writing my problems/worries onto the candle then watching as they burn and melt away.)
Dressing a Candle
Much like loading a candle, mix your herbs in an oil or have a pre-made magical oil ready to cover your candle in before lighting.
Reversals
Chop off the top of the candle, flip it upside down, and carve a new wick out of the bottom (now top.) This is a good way to inverse its symbolism!
Shape of Candle/Container
Not all candles are little cylenders. Candles shaped like pyramids, spheres, hearts, skulls, or animals can all have those correspondences taken into account as well.
Life of the Flame
Some candles are meant to only burn for a short period of time then be blown out. (Like birthday candles.) Others are meant to burn continuously over multiple days (like yahrzeit candles or seven-day candles.) Others can be lit or extinguished as you please. Which one makes the most sense for your goals?
Burning or Beacon?
A candle flame is a light in the darkness, drawing things near. It's also literal fire which can burn away whatever it touches. Which one is your candle trying to do, burn out something undesired or serve as a beacon for what you DO desire? Plan accordingly.
Read the Wax
Always a classic, you can read the shapes made from the wax once the spell is complete to get a gage of how things went/are going. Followup information is always good and can tell you a lot!!
