Ive recently started reading DC comics, and I have finally gotten to Duke Thomas and I can’t help but think that it’s really funny that fanon Duke Thomas is “the normal one” and is really nice and kind of anxious all the time and shocked by how weird the rest of the batfam is, because in reality Duke Thomas is literally the Percy Jackson of the Batfamily.

He’s so crazy and is always up to insane bullshit. He gets into a fight at school and goes “I’ve been at this school for 2 weeks- I’m getting better at this! last time it took me 3 days to get suspended.”

He gets shot for the first time and his FIRST THOUGHT is “how baller is that?!” My babygirl has no self preservation and a thirst for violence.

Any attitude you give him is returned tenfold. Duke immediately agrees to fight Damian the first time he meets him. Damian starts giving him shit and Duke says “No wonder nobody likes you.” You could be the damn president and Duke would still clock your ass (he probably would anyway. Duke Thomas is a major Cop hater!! Based!!)

He very quickly and very EASILY clocks that Dick Grayson is agent 37 and identifies the rest of the batfamily’s identities from that.

As much as I enjoyed reading Wayne Family Adventures, it did irreparable damage to the fandom’s perception of Duke Thomas.

Also I’ve only really just started reading stuff with Duke, so I’m sure he will change and evolve as i read more comics but like. There is no way that this current Duke becomes whatever fanon Duke Thomas is.

I like the thought of possibly Jason being like…badly injured while on patrol, he can’t make it back to his place..so he like..almost passes out on Y/Ns balcony? She kinda drags him in? And tries her best to patch him up after relocating her med kit. He’s NOT having someone he doesn’t know touching him so he kinda does what he can for himself. He may come off as rude and hostile at first but Y/N is very headstrong and isn’t afraid to tell him when he’s being an ass. It’s the lack of fear you have over him. He can appreciate you’ve made an effort to try and help him, yknow? It’s also like..you almost praise him for what he does? Without trying to make it sound like you’re licking his ass. Something along the lines of “the city needs someone that gets shit done and over with”. Once he’s sorted, he’s on his way. With a small thanks?

Maybe the second time you see him is by chance. You’re sat on the roof of your apartment complex with a cup of coffee and a book. He crashes your party without meaning to. He’s there solely to smoke a cigarette and leap off asap. He obviously doesn’t do that once he realises there is someone there, but he recognises you almost instantly. You’re first to break the ice with a “well hello stranger”, obviously expecting not much to come from him..he asks about the book you’re reading (cuz this man is a massive NERD)..based on your first meeting..but I can see something starting from there. Of course taking a long time to get to a relationship status but it’s just the..in between things like that, that really get me thinking how he would meet his potential lover!

I’ve personally recently been a huge fan of stories where the hero goes through so much trauma and backlash and whatever else that eventually they just say “fuck it” and do a huge 180, becoming actually so terrifying they’re now unrecognisable.

So now their villain is so shocked seeing this happen, this person was their HERO, now they’re an even WORSE villain than the actual villain ever was in just a short time span. So the actual villain of the story now has to find a way to defeat, save, or heal the ex-hero.

Sort of like a role reversal but… Done so so right. I cannot explain but there is something so satisfying about this and I hardly ever see it often.
