When we were students at the Akademiya, I would try to get Alhaitham to study outside with me. He is a stubborn mule, as you may know… once he finds a nook or cranny to hide in, if he has a book with him you won’t find him for days. He’s still like that now… anyways.

One of those times, I brought a new book with me to show him… or so I thought. In my rush to arrive on time, I’d packed my sketch book by accident. But, before I could even think to apologize, he started turning through the pages, arriving at a blank one. I still remember his question. “Senior, what will you draw next?”

It got me thinking. Between commissions for my clients and my architectural designs, I rarely create just for myself anymore. Of course, I love doing things for others, but it has been a long time since I have been able to put ink on a page simply for the joy of putting ink on a page.

I think today, I am going to sketch out that memory. I’ll show Alhaitham later, of course- I wonder if he still remembers those simpler times? No matter. Sketches, like all art, immortalize the visions of their creators. This memory, like many others, is very dear to me. Perhaps I will finally fill out that old sketchbook.

Happy Birthday, Kaveh!

We always say that art transcends all barriers, and the way the music drew in these little buddies is proof of that.

Back when I worked on a project in the desert, the rest of the team gathered around the campfire playing music together, and it attracted birds and Sumpter Beasts. They ate some of our provisions, and one large Sumpter Beast even helped us haul a good load of our equipment back to the city.

Now that I think about it, Mehrak also sways along when there's music at home... Guess it has a knack for the arts too.
