/The group laughs, the adults forgetting Irohas' comment.

Nikei - Mom, Hi! Not at all!

Satsuki - Alright, I just came to say that dinners ready, but you all seem content to just chatter here, so...

Hajime - I wanna eat!

Iroha - Yeah!

Yamato - Then what is everyone waiting for?

You slip away from your mater, and run with your friends to the kitchen. As all the adults give their reminders to go wash hands, you narrowly avoid being trampled as the direction suddenly 180s, all heading for the bathroom to wash hands.

Iroha - It seems noisy out there...

Hajime - I wonder what's happening... we should go look!

You follow your friends to the back deck. Two blondes are out playing soccer in the grassy part, with a pink haired adult watching them play.

Mitch - Hey kiddos!

Iroha - Hi Uncle Mitch!

Kiyoka - What's brings y'all out here?

Hajime - We just wanted to come say hi!

Nikei - Whatcha guys up to?

Kizuna - Mitch and Kiyoka are playing some soccer, and I'm cheering for my darling!

Hajime - She's gonna need it...

Emma - ...I wanna be upset with you for saying that, but you're probably right.

Mitch - What can I say, I'm good at what I do!

You give her a synopsis of all that's happened, aided and assisted by your friends who are all eager to talk.

Kizuna - Sounds like you've been busy...

Kizuna - Care to sit with me and watch them play?

Emma - Yeah!

Hajime - Woo! Let's go Uncle Mitch! Let's go Miss Kiyoka!

The four of you all find some place to watch from the deck overlooking the back yard. Hajime leans against the railing, cheering on both sides, Iroha having a opposite level of enthusiasm as she wanders around looking at the clutter on the deck. Emma happily climbs onto her moms lap, pulling the arm not holding a drink into her two small hands. You've just gotten comfortable in your chair when Hajime erupts into cheers. The unimaginable has happened - Kiyoka scores against Mitch.

Kiyoka... scored against Mitch?

Kiyoka - Ha! Yes!!!

Mitch - Oh yeah, one point against twenty, good job Kiyoka.

Kizuna - Go babe! I'm so proud of you!

Mitch - Kizuna, cheer for me!

Kizuna - No, after all, you "don't need it" right?

Mitch - Defeated once again...

Hajime - ...

Emma - This is weird...

Nikei - ...Hey, we still have some people we wanna talk with, we'll see you all at dinner?

Kiyoka - Oh? Alright then, if you don't wanna watch me beat Mitch!

Hajime - That... was really weird.

Emma - You mean when Mama scored against Uncle Mitch?

Hajime - Yeah...

Iroha - So you guys picked up on that too?

Emma - What's up with everyone...

You tune out your friends, opting for your inner thoughts in their stead. Uncle Mitch is crazy good at soccer, Miss Kiyoka shouldn't have been able to score against him. You can't remember the last time that anything like that happened.

Nikei - Somethings off...

Nikei - Maybe our last group will have some answers?

Nikei - They would be...

What’s the rest of the house?

Iroha - I live in a really big house!

Iroha - We have three floors, not counting the attic or basement.

Iroha - First floor has kitchen, two living rooms, and tons of guest rooms,

Iroha - Second floor is bedrooms, my play area, and then some rooms for the other three.

Iroha - And third is my dads workshop!

Iroha - Attic is mostly storage, and I’m not allowed in the basement because all the adults hang out there.

Iroha - They don't go down there when everyone comes over though, only when we’re all in bed.

Iroha - There’s some people outside in the backyard, and in one of the living rooms right now.

Nikei - Nope!

Nikei - At least, not that I know of...

Nikei - Matter of fact, I don't think any of us have any siblings.

Emma - I think I hear voices in the guest room, should we go check there?

Nikei - It's weird that anyone would be in there...

Nikei - With how close we are to dinner, if anyone was napping, they'd probably be woken up by now.

Nikei - Yeah, let's go look in the guest room!

Hajime - Em, do you know which room the voices were coming from?

Emma - No...

Iroha - I'm sure we can find them!

Hajime - Yeah! We just need to listen.

Nikei - Irohas house is pretty big!

Nikei - If you ask me, it feels like a maze, and there's tons of guest rooms scattered around too...

Emma - Oh! Cmere!

Hajime - Did ya find it?

Iroha - That is the guest room that's the least cluttered, it makes sense for it to be the one in use.

You join your cluster of friends, and try to peer over their shoulders as Emma knocks.

Iroha - Iroha and Hajime and Emma and Nikei!

???2 - Ah...

???3 - I don't mind them coming in.

???1 - ...

???4 - Might as well, considering it won't be long until dinner...

???2 - True, after dinner it's only a matter of time until... yknow.

???1 - That's fair... I suppose it's alright.

???4 - They'll listen if they're asked to leave, it'll be okay.

/You push open the door, almost immediately thrown off by the sight. Ayame, Kinji, Akane and Kanata are all crowded around the bed, Akane with that vacant look she gets every so often. The other three seem a bit fixated on comforting her - she's visibly been crying.

Kinji - Good afternoon, did you all have fun today?

Hajime - Tata!

Akane - They did, though little Iroha strayed a bit too close to the woods for most people's comfort...

Nikei - Miss Akane? Were you there?

Kanata - Ah...

Kanata - You all look a bit pink, did anyone get sunburnt?

Hajime - Nuh-uh! We all made sure to put on sunscreen.

Iroha - We've just been running around a lot!

Kinji - ...Kids, Akane is going through a bit of a rough patch right about now.

Iroha - Looks like it...

You watch Emma give Iroha a small jab in the side with her elbow.

Nikei - Is Mister Yuki here? He usually seems to help.

Akane - ...

Kanata - Yuki... isn't here right now, which is why us three have come to help.

Ayame - The others wanted to assist, but we have it handled.

Hajime - Oh...

Hajime - Well I'm sure she'll feel better when Mister Yuki is back!

Emma - Yeah!

Iroha - Miss Akane, is there anyway we can help you?

Akane - ...

Akane - I believe your parents plan to speak with you four about that after dinner.

Akane - That's a very sweet offer though.

You watch Iroha grin at that, and try to ignore your concern at Mister Yuki not being there.

Ayame - Speaking of stories, did anything happen to you four today?

Iroha - ...

Nikei - Yeah, but we wanna talk about it during dinner.

Ayame - Oh? Is everything alright?

Nikei - Yeah!

Hajime - Better be...

Kanata - Speaking of things being okay, please tell me you all remembered to drink water.

Emma - ...

Hajime - Uh...

Iroha - We got some water at some point!

Iroha - I think...

Kanata - What am I to do with you?

Kanata - Be sure you all have some water, alright?

Kanata - Nikei, I'll trust that you'll look after the other three?

Nikei - Oh! Of course Miss Kanata!

Akane - ...

You don't quite know how it started, but all you know is that suddenly, it's a race between you and your friends to clamber onto the bed. The adults haven't even processed that you four were moving until well after everyone's settling down. You've all found a way to climb onto Akane, doing your best to comfort your parents strange friend.

Akane - ...

You feel a hand comb through your hair, hear the bed creak as the rest of the adults pile on, carefully avoiding anyone especially tiny. The group hug lasts for awhile, everyone just closing their eyes and relaxing. It's a mess of limbs, and 8 people squeezing onto one bed is especially warm on a hot summer day, but no one is excited to break the hug. Eventually though, the heat gets to you all, and everyone dis-entangles. Your feet hit the ground just in time to carry you away from all the others sliding down.

Kinji - I think we all needed that...

Akane - ...Thank you...

Kinji - Now kids, go do as Kanata asked and get some water.

Nikei - On it!

Hajime - Bye Mama! Bye Papa!

Emma - See ya Maman!

Nikei - I got some water when I came back the first time!

Emma - We played lots of tag!

Hajime - I got to be it a lot! I like being it.

Iroha - I almost fell asleep under a tree...

/At this point, you've moved over to hug your mom. She tenses at Irohas words, moving a hand up to comb through your hair, pulling you closer in the process.

Satsuki - None of you went in the woods, right?

Nikei - Yeah! I watched over everyone super well!

Haruhiko - And while you were gone?

Iroha - We all stayed away from the forest! We know not to go there...

Satsuki - Ah I know I should trust you all, and I do, I just worry...

/She seems sad... Dad notices, and rubs her back for a moment.

Nikei - I don't like it when mom is sad, she's normally so happy...

Nikei - When I'm upset, I like it when dad rubs my back, so I think it makes mom feel better too.

Haruhiko - Hajime, you said you got to be it, right?

Hajime - Yeah!

Emma - He chased me all around, it was super scary!

Haruhiko - That all sounds wonderful, I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves!

Iroha - Well...

Satsuki - Iro-chan? Did something happen?

Emma - It's a long story, can we tell you 'long with everyone else at dinner?

Haruhiko - Well, shouldn't be too long until then, so I don't see why not.

Iroha - I don't mind waiting until then...

Satsuki - Waiting gets a all clear from Satsuki!

Satsuki - Why don't you all go tell the others you're back now?

Hajime - Yeah! I wanna go find out what everyone else's been up to now...

Iroha - ...Before we go, is there anyway we could get something to eat?

Emma - Isn't it dinner soon?

Iroha - I'm hungry noooowww!

Haruhiko - It'll just be a few minutes, and you'll be too busy talking to eat!

Satsuki - Besides, you had a big lunch at our house, remember?

Satsuki - Satsuki'd be real hurt if you did it get all filled up there!

Nikei - I hopped off my bike, leaving it resting against a wall. I could hear the others coming down the street, and turned to face them.

Nikei - Hajime and Emma seem neck and neck, both almost to the driveway. As for Iroha...

Emma/Hajime - Second!

Hajime - Hey!

Emma - I got there before you did!

Hajime - Nuh-uh!

Emma - Yeah, I did!

Nikei - It doesn't matter! All that really matters is that Iroha is still down the street.

Nikei - And that I was first.

Emma - Nikei!

Hajime - Hey, you guys, wait a sec...

Emma - Huh?

Nikei - Iroha, what are you doing?

You watch as Iroha realizes she came in last, and slowly drifts to a stop. You almost consider counting down her breakdown, but before you can, she messily dismounts her bicycle, letting it clatter to the road, before collapsing down yourself.

Hajime - Iroha! Are you okay!

You jog over to her, immediately dismissing Hajimes concerns. She's fine, just... very upset at losing.

Nikei - Iroh-

Iroha - No!!!!

Emma - I was worried about this...

Hajime - Oh boy.

You try to grab her wrists or ankles, to drag her in, but she just flails and tries to hit your face, so you give up.

Nikei - Well, I suppose you can just lay out here then.

Iroha - ...?

Nikei - Emma, Hajime, ready to go hear the big news?

Emma - Oh!

Emma - Yeah, I guess we'll just head on in then.

Hajime - Have fun Iroha, watch out for cars!

You head inside, followed by Hajime and Emma. Peeking out the window shows Iroha slowly sitting up. You knew she'd come around, it's why you're leader.

Nikei - She should be inside in just a moment...

Nikei - I think we have a bit of time to talk with all the adults first.

Nikei - It can take some time to get food ready for... 17 people though.

You watch them stop playing, Iroha visibly upset over the game ending while she was it. You know that Hajime and Emma have taken note over her being it. She’s gotten out of starting the game as it too many times before. This is it.

Nikei - I got a message! For alllll of us.

Hajime - Oh yeah, where’d you run off to earlier?

Hajime - We’re supposed to always know where you’re going if you leave, remember?

Nikei - I told you guys!

Iroha - No you didn’t.

Nikei - Yes, I did!

Emma - I think you did, by calling at us when you were already biking away down the street.

Nikei - Thank you Emma, for listening to me.

Hajime - Hey! I listen...

Iroha - I didn’t even realize you were gone until you were almost out of sight.

Iroha - Because of how quickly you left!

Emma - In our defense... it was a really captivating game of tag.

Nikei - I know it was! I was playing too! But I saw him stop his car, how did no one else pick up on someone driving by and stopping?!

Nikei - ...I know you’re just saying that so I’ll let it go, but still, thank you.

Iroha - Of course!

Hajime - Anyways, big news sounds important.

Hajime - Maybe its about time we go to see what it is?

Emma - Right!

Iroha - Oh yeah... in that case.

You feel Iroha, pushing on you a bit too roughly, before you even realize she’s moved.

Iroha - Tag!

Nikei - No!

Nikei - That’s not how that works and you know it!

Emma - He’s right, he said the round was over and no one protested, meaning that no one can be tagged until we all agree on starting the next round.

Hajime - Remind me again why we have such intense rules for tag?

Hajime - It’s not like this with any other game, only tag. Why?

Nikei - Because someone always tries to cheat her way out of her fair turn of being it!

Iroha - Yeah, Emma!

Emma - It isn’t me, we’re all annoyed with you never being it!

Iroha - I’m slower than you guys!

Emma - Tag is more than just running fast!

Nikei - Besides, after a while, Hajime will literally just let you tag him, it happens every time.

Hajime - I like being it...

Nikei - We race home, and whoever is the last one to get off their bike, when they’ve reached the house has to be it.

Hajime - That works for me!

Emma - Yeah, but to specify, it’s the house, not the driveway, right?

Nikei - Right.

Nikei - And if the loser tries to pitch a fit or get out of being it, then we can go get a adult involved and it won’t be snitching, okay?

Iroha - ...Okay...

Hajime - Sounds good to me!

Nikei - Okay, so on three, we’ll all race to our bikes, it doesn’t matter if you have a hard time getting started unless your bike somehow got broken, because that’s out of your control.

Emma - And no broken bike faking, that automatically makes you it next.

You run for your bike, hopping up with ease. You’re really good on your bike, and ride it more than all the others.

Emma - I think it's a bit past 6:30 now, nearing seven?

Emma - It's been a bit over 20 minutes since...

Emma - And that happened at 6:30, so...

Emma - I learned about things like quarter before, quarter until, all of that the other day!

Emma - It's cool, but the others say I use it too much.

The playground is near deserted, the metal too hot and the air too dry for most of the population. A trio of kids don't seem to mind though, instead of heading for the pool, they seem to be playing a game of tag.

One child is playfully roaring away and stomping around, laughing at the shrieking giggles he elicits from his friends. A different child, doing more giggling than shrieking, is able to quickly tear away from her friend. The final child uses her friend trying to run as a distraction, and heads for the hills to try and get a break. You... what are you doing? Who are you?
