so much of viktor's obsession with the glorious evolution was rooted in hatred and dissatisfaction of his own body. it's only when jayce tells him that he doesn't see him as someone needing to be fixed, but beautiful in his imperfection that viktor is able to let go of that mission. ohhhhhhhh it's so good

Genuinely, I think one of the most fun and crunchy things about any character is
How far they will go for things they want
What they will do to get things they want
Things they won't do, no matter how much they want what they'd get in exchange
Because these things tell you some very important things about the character, namely their limits, their price, and their absolute No's. (And it lets you create some really REALLY crunchy conflict)

arcane will have you asking questions like "what is the relationship of power, political and forceful, to those who view it as safety?" and "when the downtrodden turn to violence and revolution, at what point are they worse than their oppressors?" and "how does trauma creates monsters, thus begetting worse monsters?" and "when are those lesbians gonna get down to it and fuck nasty already?"

Okay we have to talk about the Frankenstein allusions in Arcane because I knew my English degree would eventually come in handy (This is my moment).
So obviously Viktors name us an allusion to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (mad scientist donning the name Viktor, impossible not to make the connection). Originally thought the writers twist on Viktor Frankenstein was that arcane’s Viktor was both monster and creator (and he still defiantly is but that aside). However, season two has given me a new insight and entered a new player into the dynamic: Jayce.
Viktor told Jayce to destroy the hex-core. Instead Jayce used it to save Viktors life. When Viktor emerges, changed, barely recognizable, not human but creature, he’s upset with Jayce for not following his wishes. Not only does Viktor have to rediscover his changed form but he is made of something volatile neither of them understand. Jayce becomes Viktor Frankenstein and Viktor becomes his creation which he is repulsed by.
