Going back to Canada now. Nice to see my parents though my mother was upset that she couldn't have all her kids under one roof as that hasn't happened since I left as during the interim one of my sisters got herself a job in London
Weirdly I am actually glad to be returning to Canada. Guess the country left a good impression and I'm eager to start earning money. And being at home has also made me more likely to try for permanent residency in Canada. Baby steps for now though

That's a shame, I was hoping for porn
We here at Sylph Co. are proud to announce the opening of an official tumblr account. By manufacturing and distributing Pokéballs and Trainer Acessories, we're not just selling supplies, we're selling connections between people and pokémon

Good news! You don't need to write The Thing because John Carpenter based his film The Thing on a John W. Campbell novella called 'Who Goes There?' You can just read that instead!

I love that I share my house with one of the most efficient apex predators millions of years of evolution could produce. I love that two of nature’s most prolific machines met and were like “hmmm. We should lay around and do nothing together”. Now we’re both fat and happy and full of meat. The hedonism of it all

Finally getting my formal job offer. Won't be particularly glamorous, I'll be hawking phones in a mobile phone concession in Ottawa but it'll put money in my pocket and if I do the sales part well then I'll be fast-tracked into the management position I originally applied for since I have evidence I ran a business.
In the mean time I'm back in the UK for a spell. It's honestly nice to hear people who sound like me after spending nine months out of the country. And to play on an actual gaming-grade PC since I only have a chromebook and my Steam Deck in Canada which are merely passable replacements.
And see my parents too I guess. Not going to be a relaxing holiday though as I'm specifically back to help them pack as they're going to downsize and move closer to my sisters' place.

Why would I take the boring, easy route of simply vibing when I can rigorously agonise over every track about its meaning and place in the narrative that only exists in my head
i come from the 8tracks generation where you weren't allowed to just dump three and a half twee indie folk/tswift records into a fanmix and call it done. on 8tracks you had 8+ handpicked songs in rigid chronological order and an accompanying mission statement and thesis defence detailing exactly why each one applied to your derek x stiles coffee shop au AND cover/track-list art hodgepodged from stolen pinterest/tumblr aesthetic photography, and all of this was done under constant threat of death because it was the DMCA wild west and the site was in a constant state of gradual collapse.

Caitlyn - I'll need to be careful here. Find the right time and spot, set up my equipment and pick the right ammunition. I'll need to keep an ear out for my surroundings as well, and make sure to have an exfil plan in case anything goes wrong
Vi - Imma punch its dick off

I thought I'd already posted about it but I hadn't so here we go. I got a verbal job off in Ottawa, hawking phones. Not going to lie, it doesn't feel great but I can't keep going on savings alone and I need an income to defray my outgoings. And I haven't got the contract in writing, but they've already taken references and honestly I've mentally checked out of Montreal anyway so I'll be moving regardless.
The other thing is that I originally was after a store management position and the only reason I didn't get it was because I hadn't had experience of selling phones before but the interviewer said if I do well in that they're going to put me in a management role since I've proven I can handle THAT half.
I just feel moderately humiliated that I've not been able to secure employment in Montreal. It's not official policy but the constant feedback I'd been getting was that Quebec was turning the screws on French as a second language and are increasingly demanding C1 levels when I can just about scratch B2. I don't have a background in tech or medicine (and for the latter they want C1 anyway) so the only industries I could have conceivably entered demanded too high a French level.
Shame really. On balance I rather liked Montreal, even though it's a bit dirty and has the worst roads in Western civilisation. I just wish I could've done better here

I've not posted anything substantive for ages and it's honestly depressing so here's my update
It's been going... Not amazing but I can still count my blessings, even if it's on a single hand. I had, for example, a reminder that even though after eight fucking months I still haven't gotten myself a job, it's not for lack of trying. I've found that if I manage to get someone to look at my CV and offer an interview I can still impress. Even though that's evidently not enough since unfortunately I've found that Montreal has tightened its job requirements - I essentially need a C1 level of French and at best my paperwork says I am a tenuous B2. I'm now having to find work elsewhere
I attended a hiring event in Ottawa for a casino/hotel company a few days ago. After standing in a queue for six whole hours I then found that the position I was gunning for had already been filled but the interviewer liked me so she put me in front of the goddamn VP! Who then informed me that all seven of his positions were filled. I dread to think how difficult it would've been for everyone else who was waiting in the room with me
On the other hand, he was impressed too and told me that invariably there would be positions opening in July because hey, hospitality is a shit industry with a high attrition rate so he said he'd put me in his """"""special pile""""". And the company has a "pan-Asian fusion concept" opening in November where I'd be even more qualified
However it doesn't change the fact I walked out without a job offer, my finances aren't looking great, and will get worse if I have to move again
