Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has at least temporarily cured me from lingering fury/disappointment/resentment towards the gaming industry and it has made me write fanfic again so there is that. Oh, yes indeed there is that.
I just want to immerse myself in this gorgeous, clever, lush world and unfold its layers and smile at its gentle and nerdy jokes and cry about the depiction of loss and grief and find all the scraps of meaning scattered across the maps.

But yeah, these are also my favourite characters because it's impossible to choose and they're all amazing and different and nuanced. I'm in Act III and can't read about this game yet because I don't want to be spoiled so I just spam with pictures instead I LOVE THEM ALL.

Obsessed with this game. The tone, the narrative, the combat, the characters.

I swear, there's such a niche place in the Dragon Age fandom for those who: 1) are critical of Veilguard and recognize the game's flaws, 2) realize the development process was plagued with ten years of mismanagement and mistreatment of Bioware employees, particularly the writers, which created huge limitations for what they could realistically achieve within that environment and time frame, and 3) believe we need to ultimately center our critiques within the context of highlighting those working conditions to avoid reproducing narratives that erase the pervasive abuse within the video game industry.
We should really just care more about workers than fictional characters.
#it's a bad game#and I can certainly find enough to critique in the actual text to be occupied for days on end#but also dear gods the material conditions

what's that one thing where they asked how ripely from alien was so realistic and believable as a female character in scifi for once and they were like "well we just took the dude from the original script and made him a girl and changed nothing else. it works bc men and women are the same?" and people were like "woah no way" and then didn't learn anything from that for 20 years

rl update
Lots of politics IRL. A lot of hard work but it's fun, it keeps the demons at bay and at this point I have made actual friends in this group of people.
I haven't played a full game since Veilguard. It made me bored and cynical and I just can't find the motivation to do more than pop in and out of games now.
A week ago we got pet rats. <3 Four boys that are adorable and a handful and the kids love them and I have to say they are my favourite animal that I've had in this life.
I miss being fannish.
I plan to get a Disco Elysium inspired tattoo.

writer's tag game
tagged by @bharv to name five things you are likely to find in my writing…
People being existentially lonely but trying to connect.
Fifty shades of introspective angst.
Characters being horrible/sad/tortured at least partially due to suffering from the awful intellectual clarity that means you can’t even properly fool yourself with your life-lies (kudos to Ibsen for forever making me think about livslögner and how we nurse or reject them) and therefore you have no choice but to know the shitty truths about yourself.
“People are all we’ve got” as a central theme.
Characters that are never described as beautiful or attractive - because nothing bores me more than attractive people - or if they are, it’s really fucking complicated.
Tagging @thievinghippo, @lyriumpigeon, @darethshirl and anyone else who hasn't done this but wants to.

#lilith plays avowed#avowed spoilers#i have feelings about how this game handles old gods and whispers from the past vs how veilguard does it#and spoilers: veilguard does not win that comparison

I had zero expectation for Avowed but I really like it so far. I haven't played video games much since Veilguard because it exhausted me in the worst of ways, but here we go.

Idk, I just came from a fandom where the final game didn’t give me a sense of closure etc etc.
I'm just going to accept that this ending is the best video game ending I’m going to get in this life.
Idk, I just came out of a fandom where the final season didn't give me a sense of closure as far as themes go and fell into this goddamn redemption ending despite taking place in a pure dystopia. Maybe that's why I love it even if I write fanfic to tweak it.

God, for its flaws and its fandom's sometimes wild takes on the Johnny/V dynamic, I really do adore this narrative so much and so many games can only wish they did this sort of thing half as well.
Cyberpunk 2077 fandom: Writes adventures, heists, AU epics, endless porn, fighting, smut, porn, romance, more porn, exciting stuff
This boring fandom mum: Writes 100K instrospective gen shit about how a merc and her engram change each other through acts of care and compassion, thus defying the genre trope Being Devoured By The Other.

Just a PSA to the DA fandom: I now block you at the slightest "lmao" or shit-stirring in my posts. Grow the fuck up and go out and make the world better instead, god knows it's needed.

Firstly, I ADORE your Solavellan writing!!! You are a master at your craft and I’m always excited to read anything you write, so thank you for sharing your writing with us despite all the fandom ups and downs. ♥️♥️ Secondly, you posting about Eternal Strands intrigued me so much that I spent a good 30 mins researching it and now I’m staring at a PS5 download waiting to play it…….. It looks really good!! And I couldn’t help but be suckered by all the Dragon Age hints given Mike Laidlaw is at the helm. Thank you again!!
Thank you so much! And thank you for reading. ♥️ I'm interested to know what you think about Eternal Strands once you get into it, I've played maybe six hours and I really enjoy it. It has a cool vibe and it feels like the story is cohesive and intriguing even if the gameplay isn't the most varied. Though to be fair, it almost never is and I am willing to give that up for good storytelling any day.
