The best of my 50 Netgalley reviews in 2019
In 2019 I joined Netgalley and I just got my 50 review badge.
i’m happy I joined because I had the opportunity to discover new authors and read great books.
I decided to write this post because I want to share which book I loved and my 5* reviews
All the books listed were received from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review
Here is my list:
A Death in Chelsea - Lynn Brittney (Mirror Books)
A very interesting read and a page turner. I liked this historical mystery and look forward to reading other books by this author.
This is a very interesting series and I loved all the installments. The cast of characters is interesting and I love the strong women and the vivid historical backgroud.
A Dangerous Collaboration - Deanna Raybourn (Berkley)
First thing first: I liked this book but I think it's the less sparkling in this series. Both Veronica and Stoker are at their best and the addiction of Stoker brother was interesting and enjoyable. It took me more than 40% of the book to being hooked but after that I couldn't put the book down. The atmosphere reminded me of gothic novel: the missing women, the secrets, the dark castle and the storms. It was a fun to read and enjoyable and fun to read. I think this is a character driven novel and the banters and the sexual tension between Veronica and Stoker plays an important part in the book and it makes it very entertaining. As for the mystery it was solid and it keeps you guessing as you're not given too many hints and clues. I look forward to reading the next installment in this series. I strongly recommend the series and this book.
This is a fantastic series and can’t wait to read the next installments
Murder, She Uncovered - Peggy Cochran (Alibi)
I'm happy I requested this book because I discovered a great series. I liked the unusual mix of characters, high society Elizabeth and the reporter, as well as the good mystery full of twists and turns. This book is a page-turner I wasn't able to put down and read it in one setting. There's a sort of cliff hanger that makes me crave to read the next installment soon. It's a book I strongly recommend!
The October Man - Ben Aaronovitch (Subterranean Press)
I'm a fan of Ben Aaronovitch and this was an amazing book I read in one setting. It's definetely better than the last Rivers of London, fast paced and fun to read. It was great to meet new characters and read this German spin-off. I look forward to reading other books and meet again this characters. I strongly recommend this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed, got it via Netgalley in exchange of a honest review.
Gods of Jade and Shadow - Silvia Moreno-Garcia (Del Rey)
What an amazing book and an amazing reading experience. I read this book as fast as I could because I fell in love with the characters, the setting and the plot. I loved Casiopea, the fierce and strong willed heroine that is facing a life changing experience, as much as I loved the well written cast of characters. The well researched historical background is amazing and the unusual world building is astonishing. I cannot wait to read other books by this writer. I strongly recommend this book.
A Dangerous Engagement - Ashley Weaver (Minotaur Books)
A very good historical fiction and a series I love. It's not the best installment, a bit too slow at the beginning, but it's enjoyable and I read it as fast as I could. I think it can be read as a standalone and I look forward to reading the next installment. I strongly recommend it.
All this series is enjoyable and entertaining and it’s better to start with the first installment even if this one can be read as a standalone
A Very Scalzi Christmas - John Scalzi (Subterranean Press)
I smiled, laughed and fully appreciated Mr Scalzi style of writing. I read and loved some of his work and I loved this one. It's great Christmas read, strongly recommended.
