New form of Logyn unlocked: Their marriage was arranged as part of peace politics between Asgard and Vanaheim, and as a way to protest it, both did weird things with the conditions, meaning it only has legal validity in Asgard and Vanaheim and if both are in the same place. They did this both to complain about their opinion not being taken into account and to be safe in case the marriage failed. The problem? They find out they're the same soul. Partners in crime. Playmates forever. Actually in love with each other... But they're so deep in their own bullshit they maintain the weird marriage rules. And it only hurts them.

Tumblr destroyed the quality of the top one id anyone wants to see it properly you’ll have to click on its sorry :(
Lately I’ve been doing character sheets not just to practice design, but to actually see my characters more clearly. I work in two very different art styles both shown here one with lineart the focus limited shading the other the opposite no defined lineart and focus on colour. I enjoy both however Translating characters consistently between them is hard. Proportions shift. Same-face syndrome sneaks in. And worse, I start to lose the vibe of who the character is.
So I’m turning to something more structured something that helps me lock in identity, personality, and presence. Not just for visuals, but for storytelling. For emotional consistency.
The first character I tackled was Baldr. Bc why wouldn’t but also I feel I had drawn him the most and he would be the easiest to tackle first and get the layout of what I wanted am decently happy with how it turned out. I want to talk and expand on his character but it’s going to be long so that will be underneath. Be I love to talk and I can’t talk in small paragraphs.
Also sorry for my handwriting hopefully it’s readable when clicked on 😭
Tw: war mentioned and discussed below
Tumblr media
These are eh love drawing weapons but I was to lazy to colour them I just needed a ref for the line art details.
Some context or lore: when I write the Norse gods, especially in this project, I’ve always seen them as a war pantheon. That’s been the core idea for a long time. Each god represents a different aspect of war — that concept took a long time to fully develop, and I really wanted it to feel researched and intentional. Some characters were easier to place than others. I’m going to explain what each of them represents, but just a simplified version for now — I’m holding back on the deeper stuff for later.
For Baldr, he’s ranked Colonel (O-6). So that means He’s respected, visible, and essential. He leads morale divisions like propaganda units, national events, war memorial planning. He doesn’t call battlefield shots, but he’s high enough in rank that people listen and follow his image. In short, he’s powerful but not in a command-and-control way. His rank reflects his symbolic authority, not tactical control. O-6 for Baldr means he’s in upper-level leadership, but not a general. For reference O-10 (like Odin or Freyr) would be the top military command full control, like supreme commanders. The number doesn’t imply divine power, just military seniority/structure in my world building.
He’s revered as a symbol of purity, peace, and martyrdom. His role is inspirational, not strategic. He doesn’t represent a “good” part of war he’s more of a propaganda piece. Baldr inspires belief that the cause is just and worth sacrifice. His image fuels things like recruitment, unity, and an unbreakable willpower among the troops. He keeps people from questioning their actions. If someone as good and beautiful as Baldr would die for the cause, then how could the cause be unjust?
He’s a national icon. A morale officer. He leads martyrdom-based propaganda, public morale efforts, and unity campaigns. His modern equivalent would be something like a public affairs director or national morale officer. Without Baldr, soldiers lose faith. Civilians surrender. People start asking questions. And the war effort falls apart.
Baldr doesn’t strategize. He doesn’t lead troops into battle. He isn’t a general or a tactician. He’s a symbol. An icon. His beauty, his purity, his sacrifice that’s what makes him valuable. Not his sword. If Odin is the mind of war and Thor is the fist, then Baldr is the heart or more accurately, the illusion of heart. The part that keeps the war machine from collapsing under its own weight. He’s the red ribbon tied around the sword’s hilt. The poem recited at the graves of the fallen.
He’s not truth. He’s narrative. He’s how a nation convinces itself that what it’s doing isn’t just necessary, but noble.
What’s important to me is that Baldr isn’t some perfect angelic figure. He’s not “too good for this world.” In fact, he wants this world to still be good. But he’s complicit. Too naive, too ignorant to help in any real way. Instead of stopping suffering, he fuels it. People are angry over his death. Sure, his sacrifice inspired morale — but what kind of morale? Anger, vengeance, violence.
And that’s where his real power comes from: the refusal to give up on the belief that people can be kind, even in the middle of war. He’s proof that even purity can be turned into propaganda. His story isn’t about glory it’s about how dangerous sincerity becomes when it’s used to justify harm. That’s the real tragedy of Baldr: not just that he dies, but that people keep dying in his name.
He doesn’t fight because he wants to kill. He fights because he wants the fighting to end.
That’s why I based him partially on Captain America — especially his original comic roots. Not the modern super-soldier action hero, but the awkward, righteous kid with a sense of justice too big for his body. Baldr is propaganda, yeah, but he’s not hollow. He believes in the message he’s spreading. That sincerity is what gives him power — and makes him dangerous to lose. I love Steve a lot. His sense of justice. Baldr has that too. But his ignorance is a weapon. He so desperately wants to end war but he fuels the violence the anger gives a justification for it
Visually, Baldr is… too perfect. Symmetrical, luminous, soft-featured — so flawless it becomes wrong. Like a statue, or a doll, or a model in a commercial for a life that doesn’t exist. That’s intentional.
When designing Baldr, I tried to capture this in both styles.
In my lineart style, I leaned into the rigid iconography: clean lines, banners, propaganda posters. Detailed beauty. Cold perfection.
In my lineless style, I tried to show the fragile human beneath: soft edges, emotional vulnerability, the cracks.
He’s the ideal people project their beliefs onto. But the ideal isn’t real. It’s curated. It’s constructed. I want him to feel uncanny especially next to the other gods, who are scarred, armored, bloodstained. Baldr’s flaw is his flawlessness. He’s got a rigid build the ideal build but again it’s doll like shaped in a mould not worked for.
And he believes the story too. That’s the tragedy. He’s not faking it. He really thinks he’s helping. That faith that naive, beautiful faith is what makes him so effective… and so heartbreaking. Baldr is my anti-weapon weapon. He’s not steel or strategy. He’s the reason people pick up weapons. His story asks:
I want to ask the question, what happens when the symbol of goodness becomes a justification for violence?
He’s not hollow.
But his message is being hollowed out.
And the most dangerous thing is
he doesn’t know.
Am not sure how well this is written or if it got through what I wanted for him and hopefully it will start to make sense as I do this for more characters. Norse mythology often has very brutal aspects and I want Baldr to be a commentary on how complicity is as dangerous as the action and explore. I want their to be a lot nuance as I am extremely anti-war and anti-violence and I want to explore that through this work it’s a key theme. War is brutally and one dictated by higher powers. Anyway this concept probably won’t make wholly sense until it’s explored through more characters and actually written as a story on a page. Sorry again I talk alot 😭
I’ve been actively working on this world building for 5 years and it had been building up for just over 10 so I have a lot in my head am thankful to finally get written down and be able to talk about my version of these guys.
This is also not meant to be mythologically accurate it’s a reimagining.

HEY ARTISTS!
Do you design a lot of characters living in not-modern eras and you’re tired of combing through google for the perfect outfit references? Well I got good news for you kiddo, this website has you covered! Originally @modmad made a post about it, but her link stopped working and I managed to fix it, so here’s a new post. Basically, this is a costume rental website for plays and stage shows and what not, they have outfits for several different decades from medieval to the 1980s. LOOK AT THIS SELECTION:

There’s a lot of really specific stuff in here, I design a lot of 1930s characters for my ask blog and with more chapters on the way for the game it belongs to I’m gonna be designing more, and this website is going to be an invaluable reference. I hope this can be useful to my other fellow artists as well! :)

The way you draw Loki feels like they would wear/have clumpy spider lashes heaped in mascara purposely but like in a sorta couture way you get what am saying? Am obsessed your art it’s so cool
I had never heard of spider lashes before but I searched it up along with couture fashion and I think she definitely would in some way! My Sigyn does have an interest in fashion after all!

I tried to draw it because I thought it was cute. Thank you Anon!
