Jaime lay on his back afterward, staring at the night sky, trying not to feel the pain that snaked up his right arm every time he moved it. The night was strangely beautiful. The moon was a graceful crescent, and it seemed as though he had never seen so many stars. The King’s Crown was at the zenith, and he could see the Stallion rearing, and there the Swan. The Moonmaid, shy as ever, was half-hidden behind a pine tree. How can such a night be beautiful? he asked himself. Why would the stars want to look down on such as me?
anons asked: jaime or brienne?

Just wanted to talk about this for a second:
Losing my mind currently because, in just a single glance, he manages to honetly and ruefully admit for the very first time that he harbors romantic intentions toward brienne (pls give nikolaj every single award bc it’s a real feat). He wants her, in all the ways no one had realized, as if to say, “sorry, tormund, I know it wasn’t obvious, I know you had no idea (even I barely knew until now), but with me and brienne….it’s like THAT.”
Part declaration, “back off, I’M with her” but also part realization, “holy shit, I want to be with her,” it makes for such a loaded glance, is incredibly revealing of jaime’s state of mind in the moment, and just UGH…That’s romance babey!!
#absolute human disaster jam lan really said it all w this one look and i am Proud of him#jaime lannister

“Died protecting his queen” is a really interesting choice of final words and here’s why
Brienne could have written …protecting Cersei Lannister or …protecting his sister or she could have omitted it entirely. Considering his leaving to be with Cersei was so contentious and something she tried to stop him doing, she could have just put that he died during the fall of the red keep or died defending kings landing. Why mention “his queen” ?
Then I realised. Jaime’s chapter basically starts with him killing his king Aerys Targayen - earning him the name kingslayer. That is his first notable act as a knight and a kingsgaurd, a dishonorable act.
Brienne can’t cross that bit out, she cant add a note saying he once explained his true heroic reasons why to her. She cant change how his entry starts, but she can change how it ends.
She didn’t want him to die the kingslayer. That’s why she needed to end it stating he died “protecting his queen.”
The start of his chapter describes him killing a monarch but Brienne made damn sure it ended on him protecting a monarch.

Unpopular Opinions:
I love Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth, but it’s getting harder for me to embrace things. Some of the popular tropes that are making the rounds just send me into a tailspin and I run. So here is my list of unpopular opinions. If we disagree that’s fine. Everyone can love what they love and not enjoy what they don’t enjoy-
1) Bottom Jaime: This bugs me to an extreme. Jaime isn’t a bottom. In no way is the man that JUMPED IN A BEAR PIT a bottom. The man that slew a King and was cocky enough to sit on the throne and wait. He is as manly as they come. Is he also a romantic? Yes. One does not negate the other. You can be a man’s man and still be soft with the woman you love. 2) Strong Brienne Means Weak Jaime: Duck off with that nonsense. As a woman, I don’t want a man to snivel at my feet and bow his head and tell me I’m right and he is wrong. Being strong doesn’t mean another has to be weak. A good relationship is about balance. It’s about one being strong while the other falls and having the reverse be true. It’s not compelling to see a man be a wimp. It’s not romantic. And it doesn’t bring Brienne higher to make him lower. Both can be strong and both can be weak. That’s what makes us human! 3) Tearing Brienne Down Makes For A Great Story: Oh God in heaven! How is making Brienne feel like crap about herself compelling? I recently ATTEMPTED to read a story where the first thing the author did was have Brienne call herself a whore… That’s freaking insane. I don’t want to read a story where she’s made into a punching bag for “angst”. She has enough angst built into her character. 4) Crying Jaime: No. That doesn’t happen. Jaime doesn’t cry. He is emotionally stunted. He shoves his feelings down and locks them in a box to never deal with again. The only time he has come close to breaking was when he lost his hand. He is a man that was taught to shut up and not feel jack crap. He stood stoic while a woman was raped by her king. He never shed a tear for the father that raised him. He didn’t even react to Cersei’s pleas in the last book… where the hell has this crying Jaime come from? Because I have never seen him. 5) Changing Their Roles (Making Jaime somehow not as strong a fighter) : Jaime being older and more experienced is a fact. Making Brienne somehow the best is discrediting him. Again, it’s okay for him to be strong. It’s okay if she isn’t the savior of all man kind because she is woman hear her roar. Brienne can be the hero- so can Jaime. They can fight ALONG side each other and have him teach her things. The man has been in multiple battles. He fought with brilliant Knights, long before Brienne could hold a sword. Just as he learned from them, she can learn from him. Just as Pod will learn from her. And yes, she can teach Jaime stuff as well- but to make her better than him… I feel that might be a stretch.
Well I think I have triggered enough people into hating me. Sorry this has been building for a while and I needed to get it out there. Please ignore this if you love these tropes. These are my feelings and they are pretty strong as you can see.
#wait but these are all super valid#have i been into unpopular opinions this whole time#oops#jaime lannister

Sometimes I think about
how the essence of Jaime's entire character is summed up in ONE SENTENCE in his VERY FIRST major scene and I just.!?!!?.. it's so simple and yet so multi-layered and I simply.!!@?.. What a way to set up a character. WHAT A LINE

#the way this line haunts the fuck out of me#god it's just SO GOOD#so FITTING and PERFECT and ALL-ENCOMPASSING#i love he#jaime lannister
