The first color photographs of the United States in 1888!
“Here is probably the first color photographs of the United States, created by the Detroit Photographic Company between 1888 and 1924! The photographs taken with a photolithographic process, 20 years before the invention of the autochrome, and coming from the Collection Mark Walter, allowed people to discover for the first time images of the “new world”. Taschen has just published a collection of these pictures entitled “An American Odyssey“, created by Marc Walter and Sabine Arqué. Some fascinating images! “ (Ufunk)

Hey don't cry, okay? We just found Attenborough’s long-beaked echidna, a species thought to be extinct for the past 60 years.

#unfortunately this also applies to my work's internal filing system#which I already have cause to regret since I semi frequently have to figure out#what were we thinking ten years ago when we did this thing?#and search through four or five different places it Could be#future historians with hate us#the historians we work with are already Pretty Exasperated#all history is contemporary history

most basic treatments for sickness involve some form of salt water (drinking electrolytes, gargling with warm salt water, epsom salt baths) as a way of microdosing going to the seaside

more than 20 years and thousands of media later and I have still never felt so seen, as the younger sister of an older sister, as I did reading high wizardry by diane duane.
#young wizards#i feel one is less likely to come across a load-bearing sisterly relationship than a brotherly one#and frequently the sisterly relationship is portrayed more antagonistic than load-bearing#its almost more common in fiction to come across a load-bearing relationship between girls who are first cousins than between sisters#i have also rarely come across a character as like me as dairine callahan which may have something to do with it

the close third person being a distinguishing feature, as it limits it to the central figure - one for whom the strictures of protocol and hothouse setting most apply. nirvana in fire from the perspective of consort jing.
genre-wise the goblin emperor really has a lot more in common with palace dramas than your standard adventure fantasy. I am putting it in a box with nirvana in fire and shaking the box.
#the goblin emperor#nirvana in fire#though the policy matters are moreso obvious in the various nif plotlines around the ministers

people are always slandering historians for saying reasonable things like "some things that seem romantic to us were platonic in the context of the times", when there's so many evil historians you actually have to look out for. number 1 : the closet royalist
