i went looking and the black butterfly is an event item in EP's Extra Dungeon! the item description (as stated in both the MegaTen wiki and Yushiro's GameFAQs guide) is the thing to outright state its connection to Nyarlathotep.

i don't think we ever outright see it? i might be wrong though (the only thing i can think of is the emblem on the teleports in the EX dungeon, which are also the exact same as the one where Philemon stands in the Collective Unconscious which makes me think it's about him and not His Evil Other Half - and also 'his' teeny tiny cameo in P4AU in Shadow Aigis' intro, where the usually blue butterfly she holds is black)

People who have played persona 1/2, I've been told Nythralothep has a black butterfly form? I cannot find visual evidence of this anywhere. If anyone can tell me where I can find said butterfly in gameplay/provide and image that would be lovely
