My birthday speech 🎂
I put my liver through some special forces ranger training in my 20s 😂 lungs too for that matter I smoked squares for 11 years, smoke free since ‘12. it’s a blessing to be in my 40s, feel like I’m in my 30s and look 20 somn. Shout out to the OG Hunts and Rudd’s and “Kangs” and Singletons! We couldn’t have asked for a better gene pool!!🧬 shout out to this black skin too. It’s a gift and a curse but I wouldn’t want to be nothin other than who/what I am. Thanks to everyone that thought about me today. I appreciate everything.

Leaders, I guess
These are my thoughts. The Army has a number of regulations on Leadership. It’s defined, explained, taught, thoroughly dissected. Early on in soldiering, you’re taught to lead by example. “Be. Know. Do.” Right now I’m thinking of how drill sergeants in basic training taught us proper form on the push-up and then demonstrated. They made sure we knew what right looked like. I learned a lot about leadership during that indoctrination period. But I’m not writing to talk about Army basic training or drill sergeants. Leadership is a quality that’s necessary to be successful in ANY arena of life. Can it be taught? Yes. Instilled is a better word. It implies being taught over time. The requirement of habit is understood. Are some people born with it? Again,Yes. And again, instilled would be a better word choice; even the “natural” leaders had an example to emulate and draw from. I’ve learned there are several different ways to lead. And certain people respond better to one style of leadership over another. In service as well as other areas of life, I’ve always appreciated the leaders who refused to separate themselves from their subjects. Have you seen the meme that depicts the “boss” vs the leader? I won’t try to describe it for you. I’ll put it up in another post. I haven’t figured out how to add pictures to text yet. feel free to explain it to me. But anyway, the meme spoke to me on several levels. On one hand, I always wanted to be the Leader in the bottom illustration and that’s how I see myself. And simultaneously, we’ve all had the experience of working for a “boss” on the other hand; someone that essentially holds him/herself in higher regard than their workers. I find it hard not to despise such people. See, I was raised as a Christian, speaking of indoctrination. One of the stories about Jesus that sticks  with me is when He washed his disciples feet. He said something to the effect of “the greatest among you is the servant to the others” don’t quote me. I can think of several men and women(both military and civilian) who embody this type of leadership. As a soldier, it inspires you! When your leader reminds you that he/she was once in your position, what they’re also showing is that YOU will be in their position at some point. Just on a human level, I’ve always appreciated positive motivation over negative. But I’ll also agree that sometimes that negative motivation gets the quickest results. And among other things, being a leader is about getting results.
