• people who don’t think they’re disabled enough

• people who are ashamed of being disabled

• people who are newly disabled

• people who are angry about their disability

• people who don’t know what disability they have yet

• people who have with good research self diagnosed their disability

• people who have to hide their disability and mobility aids from their family

• people who get constantly dismissed by doctors

[As a wheelchair user, I occasionally find myself going downhill at a speed that can be difficult to control. That’s why, this Disability Pride Month, I’m partnering with the United States of America.]

"You're not disabled until you let yourself be! Don't let that illness come back if you don't want it to!" -Customer, who assumed they were being encouraging somehow but instead came across as tone deaf and stupid

"I don't think restraining orders work on arthritis." -Me, who is very tired and not willing to put up with crap at work right now

"Not with that attitude." -Other customer, who came in with a rollator and was absolutely just messing with the first person

Screw pharmacies and insurance companies for making chronically ill people on meds frequently go through withdrawals, and sometimes dangerous ones.

Shout out to people who chose their mobility aids.

Shout out to people who’s doctors told them they should just “deal with it” and instead they went out and bought mobility aids.

You deserve to live a full life, regardless of pain or fatigue or balance or heart rate or anything else holding you back.

You deserve to be able to leave the house, not just to buy groceries but also to go shopping and to buy stuffed animals and to go to the park.

You deserve your mobility aid and you deserve RESPECT. End of story.

people who can’t shower every day, can’t brush their teeth every day, can’t always change out of their pyjamas, or otherwise struggle with hygiene… you’re not gross or disgusting, and you deserve just as much respect, autonomy, and support as everyone else
