thinking about lucanis with an antivan crow rook who’s from the complete opposite side of the faction. she’s from one of those other houses lucanis wouldn’t recommend to anyone seeking a contract, one of the houses that traffics and tortures their assassins as children and molds them into weapons. there are no family ties or loyalty where rook is from— you’re a crow because refusing means death.

i know the “canon” bit for an antivan rook is that viago sidelined them, but i’m not a huge fan of that. i want a rook who thinks lucanis is a silver-spoon try hard who only got his notoriety because of granny dellamorte’s influence. yeah, it sucks that your entire family dynamic revolves around murder and assassination training but at least he has a family, where rook had handlers and competitors.

when they finally share how different their upbringings were, lucanis is shellshocked. he’s heard stories, but there’s no way any respectable crow house would be that horrible? and the way rook talks about it so casually as if it’s normal, says things about being a crow he doesn’t quite understand under the assumption he’d relate— ouch. it all clicks together and he can’t do anything but want to hold her, wishes he could take her home to treviso and show her what a family is like even if his own is a touch dysfunctional, tries to keep stoking that light in her eyes that flares up when she talks about anything but the crows.

as much as he’s trying to recover from the ossuary, trying to find his softness and regain his humanity while also struggling against spite’s influence, rook is a beacon to him. look at her, someone so hurt by the world still trying to save it, still wanting so badly to help even though no one has ever tried to help her. lucanis wants to help, wants to be so good for her, wants to show her that there’s life outside being a crow, wants to make that life with her.

it’s a slow burn for them both— it’ll take a while before rook lets herself fall for lucanis, she might even go about with someone else like emmerich or davrin, someone who doesn’t know as much about where she comes from. but lucanis is as much something she’s never seen before as she is a surprise to him, a crow who can be soft, can make stupid jokes and care for others, who makes grocery lists and waxes poetic about coffee. what’s she’s seen as privileged ignorance melts away to reveal lucanis’ soft, sticky sweet center, and by the time she finally realizes it, rook is already addicted.

lucanis absolutely doms rook. he’s possessive of her, making her feel good and pleasing her over and over again, whispering in her ear that she’s mine, all mine, but the exertion is a lot for him considering his usual sleeplessness. he collapses into her, lets her soothe him to sleep, encouraging him to rest.

it would be dangerous for anyone else to crawl into bed with lucanis and wake up with spite, but not for rook. rook knows how to control him, how to make him behave and play nice all for her. she knows spite loves head scratches, loves being called her good boy, loves being made to behave so they can show luca how good he can be, how much he deserves a little more control, a little more playtime with rook.

of course, that’s never going to happen, but it’s worth it to let lucanis get some rest knowing that rook’s presence and body and words reduce spite to the demon equivalent of a harmless purring cat

i caved and started da:v and lucanis has me so weak.

imagine lucanis pinning rook down, fucking into her with slow and careful strokes, so considerate and gentle despite his strength, restraining himself so much. spite managing to slip through every now and again for a hard, rough, careless thrust or two before lucanis is able to shove him back down. tears streaming down his face each time it happens, whispered apologies and pleas for reassurance that he hadn’t hurt her against rook’s ear. he tries to make up for it with kisses that turn into bites, soothing touches that turn to possessive gropes at her body. he’s fighting against the demon, almost jealous, trying to ignore the disgusting things spite has to say about his girl that he can’t disagree with. lucanis has every intention of pulling out of her when he comes like the gentleman he is, but spite does not share the same sentiment, taking control and filling her, claiming her for them both.

love the idea that one of gortash’s instructions as bane’s chosen was to claim/dominate/control the bhaalspawn by any means necessary. him seducing durge solely for this advantageous political reason with the intention of later betraying them. then they disappear and orin comes along and he’s like well. back to square one i guess!

it’s annoying as fuck that he has to bother with this all over again (he doesn’t like her half as much as he liked durge) but he’s going to do it anyways because bane said so and gortash is very good at his job (desperate for approval)

instead of using sex and the suggestion of love as a manipulation tactic, gortash has to indulge orin’s bloodlust to get her to do anything. kind of a little shop of horrors arrangement

- poly legends. halsin is perfect for shaddy’s whole “short-term flings” thing.

- as much as shadowheart wants to see the shadow curse lifted, she’s still a sharran and spouts the most ridiculous dogmatic shit or makes snarky comments any time halsin has something to say about her goddess. maybe she likes watching halsin lose his cool a bit

- part of the reason halsin likes her is the fact that despite being a sharran, she does want to help lift the curse and genuinely cares about the land, animals, and children being effected by it

- halsin notices the little threads of rebellion and doubt and is actively seeking to tug on them and pull her into the light

- shadowheart ultimately rejecting shar is the turning point in their relationship — the shift from “bratty playful teasing and occasional stress-relief sex” to shadowheart being truly lost and halsin opening his arms to her

- he kisses her stigmata and promises they’ll find an end to it together just as they did the shadow curse

- post-game, halsin has a little bit of internal conflict when it comes to her; she’s far younger than him, orphaned, having just escaped the oppression of a goddess, relying on him for care and stability— what makes her any different than the children that he’s taken responsibility for? is it okay to be intimate with her when he also has strange protective/parental feelings toward her?

- the answer is yes because shadowheart desperately craves that sort of dynamic in a partner and has brutal daddy issues. she eats up his praise and care and will jokingly call him daddy until it becomes abundantly clear that it isn’t a joke anymore

- size difference. holy shit the size difference. it makes halsin go feral. she’s so small and soft and he wants to wrap himself around her and claim her over and over again until she’s ruined for anyone else

- all the petnames. his little dove, his sweet lamb, his precious lily, his angel, his moonbeam, etc. and of course Halsin’s favorite— my heart. ouuugh. so possessive when he calls her that

- watching one another care for the children makes them mutually insane. shadowheart is kneeling by a little tiefling boy and promising his scuffed elbow will get better right away, soothing a healing spell over it and even giving it a kiss for good measure. halsin is standing across their camp watching like “oak father restrain me i need to get her pregnant”
