I see the spoilers as confirmation that Gaban was a shuggy cheerleader at least in secret to Shanks. Poor young adult Shanks crawling back to Uncle Gaban still missing his Clown.

Gaban was in charge of Shanks’ love counselling back in the day. I mean, I’m noticing that Gaban is the only other person Shanks talked about how he wanted to be with Buggy? 🤔 Liiike it was very natural, almost as if Shanks has gone to him for advice about his crush before…

Shanks crying about how he just wanted to be with Buggy, why did it have to be so complicated, Gaban just telling him love is hardship. Gaban is still cheering them on to this day, he just wants to see his boys being happy together. He will see this love story since childhood come to fruition, he’s as invested in the shuggy endgame as any of us. (Ripley has to listen to him yapping about the slow burn love between his boys).

I’m convinced Oda created Uta as a shuggy child now. Basically he’s saying if Shanks and Buggy stayed together they both would’ve become parents at 18 and lived out the rest of their lives as a happy old married couple.

It’s also why Uta’s story was a tragic one, to hammer in the point that Shanks’ life without Buggy was doomed to be miserable. 😔 You just know if Buggy was there, all that bad stuff with Uta wouldn’t have happened and that’s why he had to be left out.

It makes me feel a little insane that in Uta's early design sketches, she had half red hair and half blue hair.

The fact that Shanks talked about wanting a life with Buggy to Gaban, the minister of love who said love was freedom…he had to be including same-sex relationships too. Gaban knows all about the freedom of love when he constantly saw how much Shanks and Buggy love each other.

Lowkey it felt to me that Oda added Ripley in that scene because Shanks was getting too gay and he had to add in some heteronormativity for the straight crowd ☠️

I cannot believe that Oda drew Shanks with no clothes on with water dripping down his face talking about how he just wanted to live life with Buggy as carefree pirates...during pride month nonetheless

Oda draws Shanks with the softest most yearning face whenever it comes to Buggy 😭🙏 Sitting naked in a bath telling Gaban about the lost love of his life…Every new panel we get of Shanks or Buggy they just get gayer, it’s like they turns alternating pining for each other.

Shanks still thinking about the life he couldn’t have…talking about Buggy like “He was the one…I was really going to spend the rest of my life with him” In the raws his sentence drifts off wistfully when he talks about Buggy…I think Gaban notices Shanks getting wistful over his heartbreak that’s why he said let’s not dwell on that. Thinking about Buggy just hurts Shanks too much and Gaban knows that so he moves onto something else.

They just couldn’t let Shanks be happy with Buggy because of this destiny doomed narrative crap!! THEY WERE GOING TO GET PIRATE MARRIED. THEY WERE GOING TO BE UTA’S DADS TOGETHER. WHAT IS THIS DESTINY? WHO FORCED EMPLOYMENT ONTO MY MAN? SHANKS DESERVES TO HAVE THE LIFE HE WANTS WITH BUGGY.

The fact that both their future plans and happiness depended on each other and both of them ruined it for the other…Buggy gave up his own dreams to support Shanks but Shanks’ dream was just to be with Buggy…😭 The one selfish desire Shanks has expressed is the one thing he can’t have.

The way he talks about Buggy it’s clear the life he could’ve had still eats at him…and it’s not just about travelling the world and getting stronger because he is still doing that…it’s about being carefree with no burdens and with Buggy by his side…Shanks you move me so much. Your gay love story is one for the ages.

Gaban asking Rayleigh like do you want them tussling or do you want to be a grandpa??? Because we can stop the tussling but it will have consequences Brother.

It will have consequences I’m cackling 😭 someone’s gonna have to take care of that little consequence, do you want that burden on your barely grown apprentices?? Gaban can see where love blooms he knows where it’s going to lead. Gaban is like have you seen them? Buggy can’t stop staring at Shanks and Shanks lives inside Buggy’s personal space, at least they’re doing this in the open rather than sneaking around in closets.

Rayleigh concedes to Gaban’s point, although if things get a little too touchy and clothes start getting torn that’s when Rayleigh steps in.

it’s funny to think that Rayleigh and Gaban might have had a rivalry relationship like Zoro and Sanji and were competitive with each other too. Roger fought Crocus, Gaban fought Rayleigh, Buggy fought Shanks, the whole damn ship was fighting.

so while Rayleigh was lecturing Shanks and Buggy about fighting all the time, he was turning around and fighting with Gaban?

i know Rayleigh didn’t actually care about stopping them from fighting he just wanted to stop them from flirting 😔 considering that Shanks was already much stronger than Buggy at this age, it definitely wasn’t real fighting…just playful roughhousing between pirates.

maybe Gaban was goading them on to fight so they could have an outlet for all that pubescent hormonal energy somewhere (since they so desperately want to get their hands on each other that badly) he’s the guru of love so he recognizes this is how the boys deal with going from rivalry to romantic love, it’s part of the process of learning to deal with their feelings, but sometimes you just have to tell your crush to get out of your school.

Rayleigh: Stop encouraging them to fight!

Gaban: If they don’t fight they’re going to do something else 🙄
