i saw a speculation about how during the Loguetown breakup if Buggy had gone with Shanks, then Shanks might’ve just given up and enjoyed a peaceful aimless life wandering about the world with Buggy, accepting the world would come to an end and not doing much about it except preparing to save themselves. but because Buggy refused to come with him, Shanks decided to actually take steps to change the world (going after the nika fruit, making ties with the five elders)

when Shanks said to Buggy he didn’t want to go after the One Piece…at least ‘not yet’ was it because he was waiting for the world to be underwater first because he knew that’s when it could be obtained? they’d go to Laughtale when the rest of the world was buried underwater and Laughtale wouldn’t sink so he and Buggy would be safe there.

maybe this is an alternate future where they sailed together so Shanks gave up any higher ambitions or dreams of fighting the world and decided to just enjoy the freedom they had on this earth before it all went to hell. so they spend the remaining years on a world-wide vacation seeing the world before it sinks.

the approaching future…Shanks and Buggy are sitting in an oden shop, no responsibility or concerns, already aware of the doomed fate of this world.

It would be the second time Shanks has to save Buggy from drowning. After the first time when Buggy ate his devil fruit, Shanks knew he couldn’t stand watching Buggy drown again.

Once again, Buggy overlooks Shanks trying to save his life, instead focusing on how he robbed him of treasure…

I know people say Shanks decided to go after the One Piece after he saw Nika’s awakening…but what if he saw that Buggy was nearby in the New World and on equal footing with him now so he felt safe to act because he was reassured that Buggy would survive the coming disaster?

This also brings to mind the theory of why Toki and Buggy were the only devil fruit users on the Oro Jackson and the only two to fall ill. It seems like there’s some threat to devil fruit users. Did Shanks know about the dangers devil fruit users were in and felt the need to protect them?

I’ve seen a lot of theories saying that the roger pirates knew all along and they’ve therefore prepped to aid themselves from the catastrophe of the world sinking alas:

Rayleigh starts a ship coating business, Crocus builds a home inside a whale, Shanks has no devil fruit users on his crew to prevent them from drowning.

And here comes my hopeless romantic addition to this theory saying WHAT IF shanks is so insistent on Buggy joining his crew to save him from drowning?

A small shuggy connection in One Piece Academy? When Uta transfers to their school as Luffy’s old childhood friend, she interacts with Buggy and they both don’t recognize each other. But there’s an extra panel of their interaction and after putting the above text into a translator basically the gist of what they’re saying is:

Uta: Buggy? I’ve heard that name somewhere…

Buggy: That’s because I’m a famous person!! Buahaha!!

Buggy is just hyping himself up and Uta doesn’t actually know him. The implication here is that Uta heard Buggy’s name from Shanks, but she’s not exactly aware of who Buggy is or the context of their relationship. So did she overhear Shanks talking about Buggy or does he say Buggy’s name when he’s drunk? Does Shanks just randomly say Buggy’s name??

Anyways this means we might see shuggy in One Piece Academy…
