   saving the world was not on her agenda, even as a makeshift avenger. being a black widow was not about genetics, magic, or gooey alien company. no, it came with a gentle nature only torture and careful, detrimental dispositions can provide. which alanis knew well. and yet her capacity for idiocy is low, a true testament to her already fragile set of frayed nerves. she’s stuck with eddie brock, of all people, as they scale a building from the inside, a loaded pistol in hand. he mumbles incoherent things like it’s his job, as if his quiet nothings might rid of the attack on new york city.

“do you…ever shut up?” she questions, her expression deadpan, a hint of anger evident, as she cants her head toward eddie. and, well, venom.

with the stature of a true new yorker, slumped and as if with the infinite questionable subway sticky under his feet causing heavy, uncertain yet heady steps. he was god damn lucky to be employed today. AND WE WILL EAT HEADS TO CELEBRATE! 

“no we will not.” tightly spoken like his throat of all things was the true villainous force. 

he’s learned to iron out the stares from strangers with friendly nods and tight smiles that say leave me alone it’s monday and you don’t even wanna know, but still he misses being a less obvious basket case. eddie’s eyes are squirrely and observant, hardly keeping eye contact with the woman. accent thick and flimsy like the grip on his phone. “sorry, what?”

“what —what is that supposed to mean?” it’s not his finest hour of verbal journalism. he’s caught up in the oddities of this man, what hideousness ailed him, maybe all of it, and the obvious barrier between them. it was enough to make a good man sweat. not that eddie was a good man, however.

“now would be a good time to mask up, buddy.” said with the cadence of someone experiencing something so ridiculous that every delicate system in the human ( more or less ) body takes on a sort of on adrenaline-clad autopilot. he should be shaking more than he is, he thinks.
