Sharon and her first time with English language teaching
HOW LANGUAGES ARE LEARNED
The fifth edition is the latest.
Author: Nina Spada and Patsy M. Lightbown
Older editions can be found on Google.
An essential reference book for all students who start their training in language teaching at tertiary institutions. If you have attempted to learn a foreign language, you must have felt the struggles in acquiring it. Now it is your time to identify them, analyze them and resolve them for your and your future student’s development. The book provides foundational knowledge regarding these issues in language acquisition and education and how researchers and teachers have been addressing and tackling them.
The fundamentals of language acquisition:
+ Different theories of acquisition and applications (Chapter 4)
The behaviorist perspective – mimicking and memorizing
The innatist perspective – Krashen’s monitor model
The cognitive perspective – noticing, processing and practising
The sociocultural perspective – leaning by talking
+ Learner’s difference (Chapter 3)
Age – critical period hypothesis
Personality
Motivation – instrumental and integrative motivation
Identity
Agency
Learning styles – VARK
+ Influence on language acquisition (Chapter 2)
The learner’s characteristics (addressed in Chapter 3)
L1 interference and interlanguage
Are there developmental sequences?
All in all, it is essential to identify, analyse and understand your students and your teaching beliefs to better facilitate language teaching and learning.
My belief is that students can learn best while engaging in meaningful interactions with others.
Have fun reading.

Me, Sharon and our very first introduction.
There have been several posts on the page, and now you see an introduction. That’s NOT a surprise then, when you are a person who has an outline for the body paragraphs and decides it is better for the introduction to come later because you are procrastinating. “Is it THAT important to make a formal introduction? They’ll know eventually after a few posts”, murmured the writer of this intro. In the end, the writer resigned to the fact that the role and the structure of this page should be clear, for logistical and educational purposes. Therefore, we have this lengthy self-introduction.
There are THREE purposes this page exists:
+ For me to find IELTS students (well, the main reason is this, but I expect no formal announcement be made regarding this in the near future, at least until September).
+ For me to have a place to write whatever I want, because I lack company.
+ For Sharon to share her educational posts (TESOL, Linguistics or anything educational-related, a habit which is necessary for her career advancement).
.... For me to post something irrelevant at all when I like.
Me has set her portrait and her idol as the avatar of the page, just because she is not photogenic and it is difficult to believe that she is a real person without something except for photos of flowers and plants (her personal profile is like that of a clone account they say).
Well, any information regarding the English class, the instructor and her personal information, the degree and so on can be found in tumblr (soon). Please contact the admins by sending a hello into Messenger chat. They’ll try to respond to you as soon as possible.
Well, welcome to my kingdom.
As I said above, this page is for me to have a place to write whatever I want. My main interests are manga, anime, films, dramas, events, ... anything.
Find them under the tags, #manga #anime #film #drama #shoujo #josei #seinen #shounen #event #opinion.

Me and my journey to master Japanese.
Welcome back to my rambling. Following I am going to introduce a series of Japanese textbooks assisting your quest to conquer Japanese. This is quite a short post, just to share my thought on the team’s effort to provide multiple sources and tools for learning and familiarizing yourselves with Japanese language and culture.
MARUGOTO
Original publisher: The Japan Foundation
Vietnamese edition available published by VNU-HCM Press and author/co-partnership (First News)
Level: Pre-A1 – B1 (in accordance with JF Standard for Japanese Language Education and Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFR)
Available resources:
Textbooks for communicative activities (Katsudo) and language knowledge (Rikai)
Marugoto for free supplementary materials (audio files, word books, writing worksheets, teacher guides, can-do check lists)
Marugoto Plus for revision materials and simulated practice.
There was a very popular Japanese textbook series back in my beginning days learning Japanese (Minna no Nihongo). I was a grammar-focused student back in the day, so that book suited my taste really well. However, when preparing for JLPT N4, I recognized how language learning had changed for years. No more grammar drilling, and simple illustrations, textbooks had evolved. I came across Genki, a series which shares the same publisher as Minna no Nihongo. It is still grammar-oriented, but a bit clearer and user-friendly with detailed explanation and diverse practice. The series was definitely helpful, I admitted, with exercises resembling those in real examination.
However, in an on-and-off relationships, you see yourself doing something over and over again and become frustrated with such repetition. Therefore, I feel somehow thankful because we have several textbook series to get rid of boredom. I found MARUGOTO on a post by the Japan Foundation. Thanks to these books, I am reviewing while engaging in more communicative and meaningful activities. Well, the thing is, I have never learned something from a communicative approach (I’m a TESOL teacher, anyway), so it has been a refreshing experience.
Well, as I have never had an opportunity to use presentation tools and supplementary materials provided by English publishers on my learning and teaching course, being able to use such e-learning tools for Japanese learning is the highlight of my learning quest.
In the comment section, I’ll attach the websites above. You’ll need an account to access all materials.
Have fun learning and exploring.

Sharon and her ultimate way of acquiring vocabulary is encapsulated in a single post. I am at loss for words, a shout-out for the author and this very confirmation of how vocabulary is acquired.
