After doing The Darkling I sorta had to do Alina.

Shadow and Bone Labyrinth AU

After a serious fight with her best friend Mal, Alina accidentally wishes for The Darkling, also known as  the Goblin King, to take him away and he, who had fallen in love with her, grants the wish.

Once she realizes her mistake she tries to get the Darkling to free her friend, but he is relentless and tells her that the only way to free the boy is to solve his labyrinth in less than 13 hours or stay in the boy’s place. Alina, thinking it’ll be an easy task, chooses to solve the labyrinth, surely she can save them both.

What follows next is an adventure full of magic, unexpected friends and allies, dream ballroom sequences with dresses as black as the King’s magic and offers of eternity of servitude and love. Will Alina solve the labyrinth and save both her and Mal? Or will the Darkling win the deal?

Shadow and Bone sketches, part one! Still trying to feel out the design for everyone, but in general, I imagined Alina to be petite, Mal fuzzy, Genya a dark red vixen, and the Darkling this sleek, sharp, slightly effeminate thing full of handsome. There are so many sketches in my moleskine I don’t even know where to begin.

I’m aware that Alucard canonically has a wolf form and I’ve previously mentioned his Castlevania design looks like a mainecoon. However something about his Nocturne design is very horse-coded to me.

I can’t believe there are people who genuinely think TELLA was the one in the wrong for rejecting Jacks in finale. Like did we read the same series?

1) Jacks never actually loved Tella. This wasn’t something that was revealed in ouabh, this was established information we were given in DURING finale. Tella was very well aware that Jacks didn’t love her, he was unhealthily obsessed with her. It was mentioned time and time again that if an immortal was to ever feel love, they’d turn back human. And Jacks wasn’t human at any point in finale. It’s unfair to expect her to choose him when he clearly never loved her.

2) he was HORRIBLE to her??? Like no actually that man was batshit insane, he gave her an entire heart attack, literally married her without her consent, betrayed her multiple times (although the word ‘betrayed’ would imply that she trusted him in the first place, and she was second-guessing him the entire time she knew him so) and was overall just so terrible to her. And she’s the one in the wrong for not choosing him? Bffr

And this is coming from someone who prefers Jacks over Tella character wise btw. People like to act as if Jacks was just some poor baby desperate for love, like he was a grown ass man?? He knew damn well what he was doing

I understand that jacks had his reasons for doing what he did in finale/legendary, but reasons ≠ excuses, it is in no way fair for Tella to forgive or accept Jacks just because he had a sad backstory. Tella wasn’t a perfect person either, far from it really, but can we all be so fr right now 😭😭

Yeah thinking that liking an evil character in fiction means you agree and endorse their actions irl is indeed stupid and an immature way to engage with fiction but I do think it is a problem when you're unable to acknowledge the bad that the said evil character does. "Who cares it's not real!!" yes it isn't real but like it exists in the story itself? Vehemently denying that and in this case, straight up justifying the violence because you're too deep in your own head about the fanon noble warrior of justice version of his character you've created in your head is embarrassing.

she's an awful person in general but there's something specific that makes me personally feel attacked. she's massively anti-irish, consistently appropriating irish culture and using the kind of langauge that the british government used for centuries to demonise the native irish.

the actual word for that is "Hibernophobia" - look familar? it's remarkably similar to the name of the cruel kingdom from the acotar books, who is directly related to ireland according to sjm herself

i refuse to read a series that makes out my own culture (the one that was oppressed for over 800 years and is still occupied by the colonisers to this day) as cruel and savage
