I was wondering how I could make the gradient effect on the kanji. I have the argument cutins but I don't know how to do the gradient cause it's got a black background. HALP. I NEED HALP

That’s unfortunately a really annoying thing that comes with the files. There are a few workarounds for this -

Set the eraser’s hardness to 0% and erase around the gradient. Make a background layer that’s a different color than the gradient - say bright red - so you easily notice any mistakes. You still might cut off the gradient a little or traces of black might get on it so I don’t really recommend this option. But if you do it well it certainly works!

Do what I do! Go to paint.net (it’s free!) and download the “outline object” extension (found here). Open up the gradient picture with the black background. Eyedrop the glow color - I like to eyedrop near the center so I get more of the base color. Get the kanji and paste it on a new layer on the gradient effect. Make the gradient layer a little transparent, around 50%-30% is good. Then use outline object on the kanji, and set the softness to max. The kanji should be glowing with the gradient color now! Adjust the width so it’s roughly the same as the original gradient - that’s why we have the gradient layer slightly transparent, so we can make it accurate as possible - and then once it’s lined up as best as possible, you’re good! For the next kanji, you don’t even need to go through all that. Just put it in a large-ish canvas and select “repeat outline object” from the drop-down menu. I’m not sure if there’s anything like this on other programs, but I say give it a shot!

Notable things involving layering; 

The character sprites themselves should be layered under the bottom ink lines, but should be layered above the top ink lines.

The Japanese “consent” text should be layered above everything.

The pink background should be layered below everything.
