I also wanted to talk a bit about the new Splatoon update, though I will mainly be focusing on the newly revealed weapons, as they're a particularly special interest of mine!

This update is SO clearly the 10th anniversary one! It's version 10.0, for crying out loud, and they made sure to make it feel like an anniversary update with their promo material!

They brought back the primary Splatoon 3 promotional kids: VeronIKA and Hirooooo! Well, kinda. Their eye colors aren't the same, but that's nothing new for promo kids. It's still cleay them, so it doesn't matter!

They also brought back a stage that they seemingly wouldn't have otherwise! It makes sense why they would, though! It's the very first stage they showcased! Some of the first Splatoon gameplay was shown on Urchin Underpass! It was also the only decent stage that was left to rot in Splatoon 1 after the server shutdown. They simply couldn't let it be left forgotten as a multiplayer stage! They even recreated some of the shots from Splatoon's reveal trailer, the very first one! This one, in particular, is very notable to me! (Left is Splat 1, right is Splat 3)

It also looks like in the Splatoon 3 on Switch 2 section, they tried to pay homage to the Splatoon 3 reveal trailer! The most obvious instance being this shot of the match start screen. The weapon classes used aren't the same, but the callback feels quite clear!

Now, let's finally talk about the new weapon collections!

Now, we don't know the quality of the kits yet, but what I do know is that the quality of the designs is high! I knew that if Splatoon 3 ever came out with third kits, their designs would be extraordinary, and I was right!

In the early days of Splatoon 3 I had a theory that Emberz could be the Splatlands' Kensa brand, and would be responsible for the game's third kit collection, with a potential chaotic and colorful aesthetic and all! I'm quite pleased to see my observation come true!

I must note that out of the 30 weapons we will be receiving, over half of them(17) will be getting a third kit for the first time, and excluding the weapons new to Splatoon 3, a third of them(10) are returning weapons receiving the third kit treatment for the first time ever, which is awesome! Those 10 are: Jet Squelcher, Carbon Roller, Rapid Blaster Pro, Splash-o-Matic, Tri-Slosher, L-3 Nozzlenose, .96 Gal, Blaster, Dualie Squelchers and Hydra Splatling.

I want to break down these collections' aesthetics a bit, starting with Barazushi! This one has a very outdoorsy and almost military aesthetic to it's weapon designs, with the camo patterns, additional kelp camouflage, what looks to be army rations, headlights fit for an all-terrain vehicle, carabiners and other such safety straps. To me the standouts of this collection are: the beautiful oxidized copper Painbrush, H-3 Nozzlenose, which looks nice in green, the Tenta Brella with its crabiners, the Crabon Roller, which was appropriately fitted with a headlight and the Splat Charger, which seems to be paying homage to the Kelp Splat Charger of Splatoon 1!

As the official post stated, Emberz is a brand that originated in the streets of Splatsville. As such, its weapon collection matches that chaotic and colorful youth street culture with its bright neon colors, tons of stickers, asymmetry, and retro gadgets like the tamagotchi. The highlights of this collection for me are: leopard print .96 Gal and tiger striped Dread Wringer with all those added spikes, Splatana Stamper with that awesome color scheme and all those stickers, the Blaster with those very pretty flames, the Dualie Squelchers with their asymmetry and zebra print design, the Hydra Splatling with that sick black and red color scheme as well as all weapons that have these tamagotchi-like devices attached to them!

Alright, so the Splatoon announcements today came out of nowhere, and so I am also coming back from obscurity to make some analysis and reaction posts on them!

I'll start with Splatoon Raiders, though my analysis will only really be on character design since we weren't shown anything substantial about other aspects of the game!

First of all, I'm SOOOO happy and excited that we're getting a Deep Cut-focused game! It's nice to see that their treasure hunting background will be explored more!

Deep Cut's new outfits are AWESOME, too! Let's break them down!

Overall, Shiver's and Frye's new outfits are just slightly more summery and outdoorsy takes on their default ones.

Here are the notable changes I noticed:

Before, the two of them used to have matching fang earrings on the same ear, while now they have matching hook earrings on opposite ears made of the metal that their old octo/squid pendants were made out of. Shiver and Frye used to have matching sideswept hair, but now they have matching buns. Both of them now also have cross-shaped scars on their bangs. Shiver's new hairpin matches her shark mask in color and material. She's also now carrying a fishing rod that looks like the Tri-Stringer, her go-to weapon. This resemblance makes a lot of sense, actually, as the company that made the Tri-Stringer manufactures fishing poles, so this is probably one of their typical products!

Big Man, on the other hand, received a completely new look only with a few references to his original! The main reference to his original design is the thing(I don't know what it is...) that he's carrying on his backpack, which resembles his usual headdress. On the back, he now has a manta pendant to match Shiver's and Frye's octo and squid ones. His skin is very noticeably tinted green now. Perhaps they decided to change how different ink colors reflect on his appearance? The patterns on his body are also different! There's fewer of them now! The ones on his leg fins were removed, and the ones on his arm fins were shortened, giving him a manta shape within his already manta-shaped body.

All three of them also have the Deep Cut logo somewhere on their outfit.

Next, let's talk about our protagonist, the mechanic, a bit!

I'm not the first one to point this out, but their hair and outfit look very similar to Chell's from Portal 2. What an odd coincidence!

The modified ink tank they have is very interesting. I wonder what purpose all the doodads attached to it serve! They also have a Hohojiro mask keychain attached to it. Are they a Shiver fan? Is this little charm something we'd be able to customize? I also love their DIY Splattershot! It's made of a soda bottle for the ink tank, which is connected to the main body via a garden hose, and it's nozzle is a siphon. It's very neat!

Also, the devs are seemingly back to giving Splatoon protagonists characterization! From the tiny bit we've seen of the mechanic, I can definitely say they have a lot more personality than New Agent 3 and the Side Order version of Eight! Look at that smudge on their face in that artwork! It shows that they're a bit messy and not afraid to get dirty. Their weapon and ink tank, which they no doubt made themself, is a testament to their character, too! It shows that they're very creative and can create inventions out of anything they can find!

And one last thing, it wasn't stated in any of the official posts, but I think it's pretty safe to say that they're also Deep Cut's pilot. They're very clearly inkfish shaped, and although their face is obscured in all the cutscenes, that was probably done because the mechanic will be a customizable player character, like all the ones that came before them!

It's my birthday today, so I decide to draw something special and personal for occasion!

After I've retired my old fursona and mascot(shown below), I've been thinking about making a new one that has a more general appeal rather than a furry one. So, eventually, I decided to make a new one that was still reminiscent of the characters who came before!

Here's the duo I came up with! Cosmicat and Penship. These two are kind of an evolution of my old mascot - Lynxie - and the pencil or pen I often depicted him holding.

Cosmicat is, as the name suggests, a space cat. He's a star being contained in a small and compact cat-like body. He's an alien creature for sure, but not apart of any actual species. He's an artificial creation, but has no clue of his origin, so he wanders the cosmos from planet to planet, doing heroic deeds and getting up to various shenanigans with his friend Penship. He's pretty cocky and arrogant, but has a strong sense of justice and unending curiosity. He's a hero, but he does things his own way and follows his own code.(Kinda like Sonic, haha!) He's pretty strong, but not ue sharpest tool in the shed, and his companion doesn't really help make up for it. What he lacks in smarts, however, he makes up for in creativity! Both artistically, and when it comes to combat.

Penship was a result of me thinking: "What if Lynxie's pencil was anthropomorphized?", and deciding to turn it into a companion for Lynxie. His name is a play on the words penmanship and spaceship. He's quite a wild and unruly creature, and a cheeky one at that, too! He loves to pull pranks on Cosmicat from time to time! He has the ability to create constructs of virtually anything with the power stored within his core. He uses it for combat, pulling pranks or helping Cosmicat with his creative endeavors. Despite being very similar to a pencil, he isn't a big fan of being held like one, sometimes lashing out and biting Cosmicat for doing so. The two of them do tend to bicker a bit in a sibling-like way, but they do still care for each other, as they're kinda the only company each of them have.

There's a lot I want to do with these two, like giving them powered up forms, fusion forms, and giving them rivals, and I'm very excited for all of it! But that would have to come later.

There was one thing that I had the time to make for Cosmicat and Penship for today, and that's signature outfits!

Cosmicat's doesn't have any deep reasons for why I gave him this outfit. I just thought these clothes in particular would look cute on him!

Penship, on the other hand, has more going on, despite having a simpler outfit. His helmet is supposed to both be an astronaut helmet and a daredevil helmet, referencing both the fact that he comes from space and the his wild and reckless nature. It's shape is also supposed to be reminiscent of a pen grip!

Don't worry, I didn't forget about my oc-vember prompt list. Trying to do a prompt list challenge at a time when I'm also quite busy irl really wasn't the greatest idea. So, due to this, I am going to extend this prompt list until the end of the year at the very least. I'm also not going to be doing the prompts in order anymore. Consider it more of a loose schedule of drawings without any set dates.

And we're immediately going out of order, as the drawing I want to show you today is for Day 21 with the prompt Baker.

This is Barry. He's a kangaroo, and, like the prompt suggests, he's a baker. He owns his own small bakery. The idea behind his character was that he would act as a father figure to a young queer person who works for him. The youth has a tough family situation, as they aren't out to them, and their family wouldn't accept their identity. So they sorta came to Barry for help and advice, as he's a family friend, but instead, he straight up just took them under his wing and gave them a job.

As you can probably tell, the story idea is a little rough still, but I do like it, so I hope to turn into something more substantial someday. I do have another problem that keeps me from fleshing this character out further, and that is the fact that I just don't know how to connect him to the rest of the characters I have come up with, like Cal and Aster. I know that characters that live in the same world don't have to be connected or interact with each other, but I just like it better when they're tied together in some way.

This character, like with several others before, is a redesign of an old oc I made. In Barry's case, he's a redesign of a grape Fanta sodaroo character I randomly made back in 2021. Instead of having his appearance be based on a grape soda, one of his appearances is now based on blueberry pie, fitting in thematically with his occupation. (Honestly, that original sodaroo character can pass as his biological child. May or may not do something with that fact in the future)

As you can see, he has two different appearances. The red one on the left is how he looks naturally. The blueberry pie one is an alternate appearance he takes on by wearing a charm, like the one that Aster wears to give them their iconic look.

Here's a little belated Easter drawing I made featuring my kangaroo - Barry! I know I haven't really drawn him at all, but that's cause I prefer to give characters proper introductions before I post any art of them. But, since I've already technically introduced him before, though not in his current state, and I really wanted to draw him for the occasion, I decided to let go of my rules for once!

I drew Barry in this sort of farmer like outfit with him holding a basket full of easter egg-shaped cookies, and with a small Easter bilby plush in his overalls pocket, cause I thought it'd be cute!

Recently, I've got to do a little "give me six characters to draw fanart of"-esque thing with my friend, where we drew not 6, but 3 characters of our choosing for each other. The top row are the ones my friend gave me, and the bottom row are those that I gave him, but decided to draw anyway! My friend doesn't really post on social media, so you won't be seeing his part of this, unfortunately. All in all, though, this was fun!

New splatfest means new art!

For this Spring Fest's question: "When do you get things done? In the Morning, Afternoon or at Night?". Ceph answers: Afternoon! This is simply the only choice that makes sense, as Ceph is neither a morning person nor a night owl, really. He likes to get things done when the sun is shining bright!

As for me, I would've picked team Night, because I tend to put things off till the last minute and end up doing things when it's already dark. I ended up choosing Afternoon, though, mainly because of Ceph, as this choice was more in-character for him, but also because I had a better drawing idea for this team, too.

Ceph's outfit this time around is just a somewhat pastel-toned spring outfit. There's not much else to it. It's not like you can see the full thing anyway. I did bring back the braided hairstyle from last year's spring fest drawing of Ceph, but changed it up a bit!

Ceph's weapon of choice today is the Sorella Brella, as it's the most sun-like weapon in Splatoon 3, matching team Afternoon's sun logo with its shape, sunny yellow accents and the sun-shaped puffferfish designs on it! It's also quite perfect for shielding you from the sun, too!

Now, I know that 5yl's anniversary was yesterday, but today is more important since it's the day of the big stream event, and I wanted to draw something anyway!

I've been debating for a long time about the things I should draw for the anniversary to top the art I made for previous years and what I actually want to draw. In the end, I settled on making a fusion of 5yl's main protagonists: Ben and Danny in their most powerful forms as of yet: Alien X and Frenzy Phantom, respectively.

I imagine that there could actually be a somewhat plausible scenario where this fusion could actually appear in future chapters: After some combat, Ben as Alien X has been fatally injured by Vlad. As a last-ditch effort to keep himself alive and strong enough to fight back, Alien X fuses himself with his ally Danny. Now that the being with the power to recreate reality and the being with the power to destroy it are one, the heroes' victory is guaranteed, right? But it's never that simple. How do you think this will play out?

Time for another new OC!

This is Allan or Al, an alligator. He's a stoic and reserved man who struggles with showing his emotions a bit, and is constantly tired from his job.

He's a professor at university, teaching an anthropology course there. He's particularly interested in the magic of his world, and whenever he reaches that topic on his lectures, he talks about it with great enthusiasm!

He and Nox used to be coworkers on his previous job and were quite friendly with each other. However, when Al left that job, he lost contact with Nox. Recently, they crossed paths again and reconnected, with Al being intent on staying in contact with Nox, perhaps for reasons deeper than just a friendship this time around.

Also, have this simple ref I made as a bonus! The colors didn't come out quite right, but it's accurate otherwise.

On a more serious note, here's some belated macro march drawings! I drew my OCs as kaiju wreaking havoc. It isn't quite within macro march's theme, but I thought the idea was too fun to pass up!

You know, I've been thinking for a bit now that I want to make a switch to human OCs from now on. I dunno, furry OCs just don't click with me anymore.

I'm starting this switch with redesigns of Cal and Aster. I'm very happy with these! I hope y'all can accept this change.

April Fools! Obviously!

I'm never switching from making almost exclusively furry OCs to making only human ones! Furry characters are just so much more appealing to me!

While I did draw Cal and Aster as humans mainly just to make a joke, their appearance as humans isn't a joke at all! This is genuinely what I imagine them looking like as humans. Consider these versions of them like humanizations/gjinkas of their furry designs.

This drawing also gave me an opportunity to revisit and revise the outfits I introduce these two in a bit.

This was kind of a fun exercise, so I might do this again sometime with my other characters! I think I could draw something fun with a human version of Finn or a full inkling version of Ceph!
