GHIBLICORE
So Sewstine posted a recent video where she makes a dress inspired by Studio Ghibli dresses (especially Howl’s Moving Castle and Ponyo) and talked about wanting a “Ghiblicore” aesthetic, then discovering “cottagecore” as a parallel trend.
So I… really really like the idea of Ghiblicore? Partly because I watched Whisper of the Heart recently, and I loved how much it imparted that Ghibli whimsy and romanticism into a modern urban landscape.
Like that magical moment when you get onto the light rail train and a commuting cat shares your seat, and when you follow it it leads you into a suburb you’ve never seen before…
Cottagecore makes me want to abandon my neighbourhood and job and move into the country, spurning all reminders of modern life.
Ghiblicore makes me want to see my life with different eyes, turning the humdrum and everyday into something full of magic and potential at the place where nature and technology meet.

i've finally figured out my studying aesthetic, it was bright academia
highlighting things as a coping mechanism
so many fucking index tabs that every book becomes a rainbow hedgehog bristling with them
writing essay plans in multicoloured felt tip pens
post-its everywhere
listen if it's not at least three different colours I am Not Interested
funkiest bullet points in town
everything is a mess but there's a pride flag in my desk tidy and my bedspread is practically luminous it's so bright and I am drinking tea out of the most garish mugs I could find
going to formal wearing bright blue socks with fish on them under a suit + gown
annotating an entire text in orange gel pen
probably have mind maps blutacked on the walls of my room not bc I thought I'd ever read them again but because sometimes it's easier to think on walls than at desks and you just gotta like. think on large sheets of paper yunno
handing in work written entirely in green or violet ink because my blue pen fucked off somewhere and anyway it's more fun like that

gentle academia after terrible days
- random page of a book you’ve read a hundred times, every page creased and the spine bent every possible way, drink the words in like cool water
- random page of a book you haven’t read, all words are beautiful today and they remind you how much more there is to read that’s still waiting for you
- soft dark jumper the colour of the earth
- a candle that reminds you of your childhood home, or somewhere you’ve never been that could be your home one day
- tea, coffee, hot chocolate exactly the way you like it, make it slowly like a ritual, take comfort in every part then hold the warm mug close to your chest
- walk around an art gallery slowly on your own, check in on the paintings like old friends, you ask if rembrandt is doing okay and he asks you back
- look out at a river, any river, or a movie where someone looks at a river, or the wikipedia page of an artist who lived by a river
- watch a movie you don’t care about and let a story wash over you, it could be a rom com or a documentary or something with zombies, it just matters that you’re accessing a story from another world

I really want to hide a bell inside of my plague doctor mask, so whenever I turn my head or look around people associate me with a little jingle! I just think it would be cute
