Mornings with Spencer were always your favorite, the soft glow of the sun illuminating your room as you stirred in your sleep, waking up not too long after him. He enjoyed reading a book while waiting for you to wake up, as you were continuing to fight to stay awake he gave you a soft rub on your back. "Morning, I'll go make us some coffee," he whispered as he stepped out of bed. The sudden loss of warmth from your side making you groan.
"Don't worry, I won't be long" he said in a hushed tone, his voice was always angelic to you, rambling or not, you found the greatest comfort in his voice. Since you first met Spencer you've always been drawn to his voice. Maybe more than just that, but it contributed to your liking to him a lot.
You were lost in your thoughts that you hadn't noticed that he was back already, sitting back down onto your shared bed, leaning down to kiss you on your temple. "Coffee's ready."
Slowly lifting your eyes open to look at his face, the same face you'd fallen in love with since you first saw him. His soft features that somehow just complimented eachother.
Walking out of your bedroom, the smell of coffee immediately filling your senses, you poured yourself a cup and sat down, Spencer sitting across from you reading his favorite book hes read atleast a million times on your small round table that sat next to a window. It was one of your favorite spot because the sun shone perfectly through that window, sometimes making a beautiful rainbow effect on the top of your table.
Upon finishing your coffee, you sat there, fidgeting with your wedding ring. reminiscing on that day. That memory of you both saying - “I do.” - brings a soft smile to your lips. He notices your fidgeting in the corner of his eye and he turns to look at you, being met with that smile that he loves so much.
“What?” he says to you,
“Just thinking about how much you mean to me.”
He gives you that smile you just adore, you seem to get lost in eachothers eyes, this kind of love you had for eachother makes your heart burst. Moments like these you wish could last forever.
A buzzing noise could be heard in the room and it took you about a minute to realize that the buzzing was your phone. You rushed to grab it from your pocket, taking one glance at your phone your smile slowly faded.
Spencer seemed to notice the minute change in your expression, "It's Hotch" you said to him, sighing.
Of course you loved your job, you wanted nothing more than to help people and put criminals in jail. But it was extremely demanding, and tiring.
You were dealing with a tough case, an intense child hostage situation in a mall, it was empty except for you, the cops, search dogs, and all of the distraught relatives. You sat there comforting the mother who had been sobbing for atleast an hour now.
Cases involving children seems to hit you the worst, you've always liked children, yet not wanting any of your own. Spence was gone investigating some people with Hotch and Derek. It was just you, Emily, and the tired parents looking for some hope that their child may still be alive and well.
Spence, Reid, and Morgan came back from investigating and spoke to you and Emily seperate from the parents.
"We think we may have a suspect, and we believe the child is still alive" Hotch spoke in his usual monotone voice, "-And it may not be for long." Spencer added, you looked at your boss and then at Spencer. He knew you wanted to go and find this child, he wanted too as well.
Hotch went over to discuss some things with the parents as you stand there, not knowing what to do. Spence could see the look of hesitation written all over your body, as soon as he opened his mouth, you spoke over him. "Do you have any idea where?" He just looked at you, Derek chimed in. "Look, Garcia is working on it. We'll find this kid. Don't worry."
Minutes later Morgans phone rang, you stared at him as he put the phone on speaker. "Talk to me, baby" You listened intently to every word Garcia said, and as soon as she gave some sort of indication to where the child may be, you were rushing down the mall.
"Hey, wait!" Morgan shouted to you, but you didn't listen. Spencer followed behind, clearly not listening to Hotch or Morgan.
You sprinted down stairwells and tried to clear out every room possible, What Garcia said might not have been much, but to you it was everything you needed. Spencer now close behind clearing out rooms as well, even with little to no communication you always seemed to just understand eachother.
While he was in a seperate room clearing it out, you went in another when you heard Spencer yell "Drop the weapon. Now!" Your heart skipped a beat as you tried to rush out of the room and to your husbands side.
As soon as you entered the room the deafening sound of a gunshot rang throughout the room. Not yet comprehending what just happened, you shot the suspect down. When he was on the floor, unconscious, you finally turned to look at your husband who was hunched over, groaning in pain.
Adrenaline and fear coursing throughout your entire body, you dropped your gun to the floor and tried to get Spencer to lay down, he was panting and hissing in pain as blood started to seep through his vest. Your heart was beating out of your chest as you removed his vest, you took your shirt off so you had something to put pressure to on his wound, and to hopefully soak up most of his blood so you wouldnt have to see so much of it.
You hurriedly took your phone from your pocket and dialed the first name you could see, it was Hotch. You threw your phone on the ground to keep your attention on your husband, who was dying out in front of you. Aaron almost immediately answered, he tried to speak but you didn't care about what he was going to say. You needed help. Spencer needed help.
"Aaron, please, help me! Spencer got shot and I dont know what to do, send somebody, now!" You screeched, you wished someone could come right now, they'd get your husband and save him, and everything would be alright.
You knew help would arrive fairly quickly, you guys didn't travel too far. Tears streaming down your face as you tried to keep Spence conscious, your shirt proving to be useless at this point as blood now started covering your hands.
You couldn't hear anything, Hotch's voice being drowned out by your own, talking to Spencer. For what seemed like hours, you sat next to him, kneeling, watching his body fight to stay alive. Not long after, you felt the vibrations in the floor of people rushing towards you, and bursting through the door. You couldn't hear anything. Morgan was pulling you off Spencer and into a tight hug off to the side so paramedics could rush him out and into an ambulance.
Morgan wouldn't let you go as you felt waves of emotion hitting you even harder. Your bloody hands staining his dark beige colored shirt, but he didn't care. "Its okay, you're okay. Reid's gonna be fine." His words fell on deaf ears as you just sobbed onto his shoulders.
You stood outside with Emily's blazer covering you, ambulance sirens blaring all around you, but all you could hear was the ringing in your ears and the intense pounding sensation in your head. Finding a seat on a trucks tailgate, your entire body was sore. You were tired. Hotch appeared in sight and you just looked at him. "Im sorry, there wasn't much they could do."
Your entire world seemed to shatter at that moment. Body going completely numb at his words, your mouth fell agape as you tried to think of anything to say, but every word you could think of died at your tongue.
"Was the boy okay?" You blurted out, eyes fixed on the floor. Hotch didn't respond. You could only close your eyes and just take a deep breath.
You could never imagine how much your world could change in just a matter of less than a day. When you got home that night, everything was quieter. You just stood there in the living room, staring at the little round table you and Spencer were sitting at this morning. Your coffee sitting there, cold. But Spencers book, colder.
You walked into your once shared bedroom, Spencers side of the room littered with books and papers.
You climbed into bed hoping to find that same warmth you experienced just this morning, only to be met with a still, empty bed.
You resigned as an FBI agent recently, not being able to save your husband and a child in need, in time. Those facts weighed not only on your shoulders, but your soul.
