I had this concept when talking to one of the many roleplay accounts of the fandom.

Leitner of the Terry Prattchet novel Witches Abroad, that has even more a focus on mirrors than the mundane book.

Either once you complete it, or once you destroy it, it disappears. Except! It still appears in mirrors, and seems to be held in your hand.

Then, bits of your body begin disappearing, while still being visible in mirrors. As long as you are within sight of them in your reflection, you can still use these body parts. Also, reflections seem to speed up the disappearing process, but it happens regardless, even if a lot slower.

Once you die, either by disappearing completely or by losing vital organs, the book reappears.

comedically tiny leitner that makes you think everything around you is suddenly way too big, towering over you. these effects are worse for tall people. if you read it all the way through you get shrunk and presumably lost in the carpet forever.

you might open it and start reading for a bit, recent interactions and chance encounters go first, the person you bought it from forgot they even sold it to you, you don't notice a thing until you've read half of the book and you go to work the next day, no one knows why your even there, by the time you finish it's like you never even existed

Diabolical idea:

This book, once touched, disappears from your vision. However it keeps materializing wherever you go, in a very visible spot where everyone around you can see. The cover appears different to each person, appearing as the worst a smutty romance novel concept they can think of. But. To you, it’s invisible.

the effects can vary, maybe you morph into whatever really incorrect anatomy image you just read, or you can feel a phantom pain of your body twisting and mutate to "look" like whatever body part you're reading about, up to interpretation !
