Tropical-style gardens are becoming increasingly popular in the UK and are the epitome of evergreen structure. Palms, grasses and ferns make up the majority of the planting here, with a mix of materials including decorative tiles, gravel, concrete pavers and decking to give each area a different feel. A little different to our usual garden designs... Who fancies a dip?! One of our current projects involves designing a garden around a swimming pool, complete with sun lounge area, cosy firepit seating area, outdoor bar and pool table! Can you spot the huge hydrangea macrophylla at the rear? Mophead hydrangea are great for shady areas of the garden and produce enormous blooms in late summer and early autumn. Here is one of our current garden design projects, a large 1/4 acre space that we have completely transformed! Within this space we have two large patio areas, a sunbathing lawn, vegetable garden, arch pathway and numerous deep perennial flower beds. We're back! After a couple of weeks off social media to focus on our current garden design projects, we're eager to share what we've been up to! We've been busy designing some truly stunning outdoor spaces, some small, some enormous! We've also been working on something behind the scenes that we've hinted at previously... In the meantime, enjoy this small, traditional garden that we've designed recently. Three distinct zones divide this garden into a patio/dining area, large lawn and comfortable seating area, and make the space feel bigger than it really is. We love curves! Adding curves into your garden creates a comforting and relaxing emotional response and helps to soften the harsh lines of the house or boundary. There is certainly a lot going on in this garden! Stepping stone tiles leading from the house to the large patio, lined with lavender hidcote on two sides, with the remaining two sides leading the way down a yew-lined brick path to the more secluded and cosy part of the garden. This long wildflower garden is taken from one of our most recent designs, a project which brought many challenges including a large wooded area in need of lots of TLC! Box balls (buxus sempervirens) are a fun and inexpensive way of adding evergreen structure and interest to the garden all year round. They hold their vivid green colour throughout the winter months and contrast with the bright flowers that appear in the summer. A trellis is a great way to create zones within the garden. Less restrictive than a fence and less maintenance than a hedge, a trellis can be used to create hidden pathways or create privacy in a secluded corner of the garden. They are so easy to include into the garden as flat-pack kits for stand alone raised beds.
