I personally choose to believe that the Hunger Games series is supposed to be Katniss's memoir/way of setting the record straight about her and her loved ones part in the Games/war. Meaning I think the entire country of New Panem was going into a FIT with every new chapter they read, let alone book. Just imagine the podcasts for a second.
"SO THE STAR-CROSSED LOVERS OF DISTRICT 12."
"YEAH."
"FATED SOULMATES."
"DESTINED TO BE TOGETHER."
"Role model for all of our relationships, I think it's safe to say."
"Mmhmm."
"It was a SURVIVAL STRAT????"
That baby reveal??? Had the country in SHAMBLES when they realized Peeta was lying. Her editors probably told her to just keep that out and she probably just said "why?? I have actual kids now, it's fine." The tabloids are blowing clear the fuck up all day every day. Peeta's hijacking??? People already knew but they didn't know EVERYTHING. God, those podcasts were LIT.

My absolute favourite scene of the series so wonderfully dissected
I don’t know what I’m doing here except thinking about one of my favorite (and possibly under appreciated) moments from Catching Fire…
“May we ask where you’ve been, Miss Everdeen?” the woman asks.
“Easier to ask where I haven’t been,” I say with a sound of exasperation. I cross into the kitchen, forcing myself to use my foot normally even though every step is excruciating. I pass between the Peacekeepers and make it to the table all right. I fling my bag down and turn to Prim, who’s standing stiffly by the hearth. Haymitch and Peeta are there as well, sitting in a pair of matching rockers, playing a game of chess. Were they here by chance or “invited” by the Peacekeepers? Either way, I’m glad to see them.
“So where haven’t you been?” says Haymitch in a bored voice.
Prim nervous-> a natural response to the situation vs. Haymitch and Peeta -> the picture of nonchalance
“Well, I haven’t been talking to the Goat Man about getting Prim’s goat pregnant, because someone gave me completely inaccurate information as to where he lives,” I say to Prim emphatically.
This is so brilliant. Katniss bought the damn goat. Of course she knows where the goat man lives - or at least where he does business. But this excuse gives her a reasonable explanation for being gone AND a reason why she doesn’t have an alibi. If she actually said she saw him, the peacekeepers could check and find out that she lied.
“No, I didn’t,” says Prim. “I told you exactly.”
“You said he lives beside the west entrance to the mine,” I say.
“The east entrance,” Prim corrects me.
“You distinctly said the west, because then I said, ‘Next to the slag heap?’ and you said, ‘Yeah,’ ” I say.
“The slag heap next to the east entrance,” says Prim patiently.
It’s also great because it takes Prim’s mind off the danger of the situation. Instead she’s busy arguing about the correct directions she gave her sister.
“No. When did you say that?” I demand.
“Last night,” Haymitch chimes in.
“It was definitely the east,” adds Peeta. He looks at Haymitch and they laugh. I glare at Peeta and he tries to look contrite. “I’m sorry, but it’s what I’ve been saying. You don’t listen when people talk to you.”
“Bet people told you he didn’t live there today and you didn’t listen again,” says Haymitch.
The strategist and the actor know the best way to get a good performance out of Katniss is to nettle her.
“Shut up, Haymitch,” I say, clearly indicating he’s right.
Being miffed at Haymitch doesn’t even require acting- it’s their natural dynamic
Haymitch and Peeta crack up and Prim allows herself a smile.
They’ve all succeeded in putting Prim at ease (at least a little)
“Fine. Somebody else can arrange to get the stupid goat knocked up,” I say, which makes them laugh more. And I think, This is why they’ve made it this far, Haymitch and Peeta. Nothing throws them.
I look at the Peacekeepers. The man’s smiling but the woman is unconvinced. “What’s in the bag?” she asks sharply.
I would be entertained. It’s a live episode of everyone’s favorite sitcom: The Victors of District 12
I know she’s hoping for game or wild plants. Something that clearly condemns me. I dump the contents on the table. “See for yourself.”
This moment has to be so satisfying for Katniss.
“Oh, good,” says my mother, examining the cloth. “We’re running low on bandages.”
Peeta comes to the table and opens the candy bag. “Ooh, peppermints,” he says, popping one in his mouth.
“They’re mine.” I take a swipe for the bag. He tosses it to Haymitch, who stuffs a fistful of sweets in his mouth before passing the bag to a giggling Prim. “None of you deserves candy!” I say.
I can’t get over how adorable they all are together- even if it just for show.
“What, because we’re right?” Peeta wraps his arms around me. I give a small yelp of pain as my tailbone objects. I try to turn it into a sound of indignation, but I can see in his eyes that he knows I’m hurt. “Okay, Prim said west. I distinctly heard west. And we’re all idiots. How’s that?”
Their wordless communication gets me everytime. The strategy immediately shifts from playful to placating. Get the peacekeepers out of here so Katniss’s wounds can be tended.
“Better,” I say, and accept his kiss. Then I look at the Peacekeepers as if I’m suddenly remembering they’re there. “You have a message for me?”
Oops forgot you were there - what a touch.
“From Head Peacekeeper Thread,” says the woman. “He wanted you to know that the fence surrounding District Twelve will now have electricity twenty-four hours a day.”
“Didn’t it already?” I ask, a little too innocently.
I can just imagine Haymitch growling, “don’t push your luck”
“He thought you might be interested in passing this information on to your cousin,” says the woman.
“Thank you. I’ll tell him. I’m sure we’ll all sleep a little more soundly now that security has addressed that lapse.” I’m pushing things, I know it, but the comment gives me a sense of satisfaction.
She cannot help herself and I am here for it.
The woman’s jaw tightens. None of this has gone as planned, but she has no further orders. She gives me a curt nod and leaves, the man trailing in her wake. When my mother has locked the door behind them, I slump against the table.
“What is it?” says Peeta, holding me steadily.
“Oh, I banged up my left foot. The heel. And my tailbone’s had a bad day, too.” He helps me over to one of the rockers and I lower myself onto the padded cushion.
My mother eases off my boots. “What happened?”
“I slipped and fell,” I say. Four pairs of eyes look at me with disbelief. “On some ice.” But we all know the house must be bugged and it’s not safe to talk openly. Not here, not now.
I know they’re all putting on a performance, but are they really acting? It’s all feels so in character for them to be teasing and laughing with each other. I just like to picture an alternate universe where this scene played out similarly but without the injury and audience

Peeta: I want you to eat three meals a day and have a decent sleep schedule.

Reforming the human rights act
The UK is planning on reforming the human rights act.
If it wasn't shitty enough for them to try and go against BASIC human rights to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda, they're now planning on making it legal for it to happen.
This is going to affect immigrants, refugees, criminals, disabled people and asylum seekers.
If the human rights act does get reformed, this is going to make it easier to deport people and reduce the government's responsibility to uphold human rights.
It's the government's way of cleaning their hands by pretending nothing has happened
Please please sign the petition so it will at least get debated in Parliament. Only UK residents and British citizens can sign it, but please please please reblog this to protect human rights

i feel like the ‘film’ is an important element of this.
like people like liam hemsworth and so there has to be some kind of bias. i could even say myself that i prefer film gale to book gale (i still prefer both film and book peeta i love him so much) but the films do somewhat make gale not as ‘bad’.
i say ‘bad’ because he’s not necessarily a ‘bad’ person, he just makes some questionable decisions that he thinks will be for the greater good, which contrasts katniss’s own ideas; peeta mirrors hers instead.
so whilst film gale might be preferable to book gale, he still does not hold a flame to peeta in any way shape or form.
all my students in my dystopian film class think gale is a better match for katniss than peeta and i told them they were Objectively Wrong and they assigned me a slideshow for homework to prove it and—

the uk government is trying to scrap the human rights act.
i’ve not seen a lot in the media about this so i’m going to do my best to put this into words and explain what will happen if the government is successful in replacing the human rights act with the bill of rights (aka the rights removal bill).
this will mean that in the uk:
you won’t be allowed to say anything negative about the government
if you are disabled or chronically ill, you won’t be allowed to say no to being given a DNR in hospital
you won’t be allowed to bring ‘trivial’ human rights violations to court
public authorities (the police) won’t have to actively protect people’s human rights
the uk military will be allowed to basically do whatever they want overseas
if you ever commit a crime, they can disregard your human rights
the government will not be obligated to obey human rights
if you are from the uk PLEASE sign this petition, and also to everyone else, please please please share this.

i’m gonna need a part 3….
AN: Hiiiii, alright I’ve been working on this story since I posted my first chapter and, as it turns out, no surprise, this is gonna be longer than I originally expected. Probably like five-ish chapters? I’m not re-writing every chapter or part of Mockingjay if Peeta wasn’t hijacked, just snippets of the essential plotline and events if Peeta hadn’t been hijacked…. did that make sense?
Alright, anyways, I wanna also take this time to say I definitely did not expect the amount of love I received on the first part of this and omg I’m so honored and touched. I really wasn’t expecting you guys to be so supportive in this fandom. Thank you all so much, for liking, commenting and reblogging. It really made me so happy <3.
Also if you didn’t read part one and you want to, here’s the link.
I hope everything’s going well for all you reading this!
Also I need a title for this so any suggestions are more than welcome alright buh-bye.
Shattered Pearl
| Part One |

I know I’ve been shot. I felt it hit me, right underneath my chest. If I didn’t vaguely remember standing in the tunnels, appealing to and pleading with the District Two men, trapped inside the Nut, the gunshot of a man standing behind us in the crowd, too cowardly to come closer and confront me to my face, if I didn’t retain the image of seeing myself shot on television, I’d swear I’d been hit by one of the Capitol trains that once took me and Peeta district to district.
The thought of the train brought back memories I’d long held close to my heart. I had never spoken of nights shared between me and Peeta on the Victory Tour and prior to the Quarter Quell. Not to anyone. Not even Prim. It felt too personal and too vulnerable a memory to let anyone else claim it. For so long it was all I had to cling to, with him presumed dead and then only seen on Caesar’s talkshow, tormented and a shell of the boy with the bread.
I miss him now, as I lay despondently, wherever I am. I feel a jabbing pain right where I predict I was shot, the injury feeling closer to a brutal beating than a penetration.
My mind whirls and flies and wracks itself up and down, backwards and forwards and side to side and somehow I can’t remember even a split second where I felt the bullet enter into my body.
I feel my consciousness, my awareness, growing stronger now, slowly crawling in an upwards motion, like I was lying on the bottom of a lake and I’m only now floating to the top.
When my head breaks the surface, there’s a bright, ugly, glaring light stinging my eyes and my first thought is one of comparison. Does Peeta experience this too, when he wakes up in his recovery room? Do they actually think that’ll help anyone recover here, blasting unsettling yellow colors into their eyes as soon as they crack open? Is it their idea of a luxury, since everything and everyone else is so void of color here in Thirteen, like one of Peeta’s drawings that have yet to be painted.
“Disorienting, huh?” I hear a familiar—so familar—voice laugh quietly. “I think Thirteen believes the more the lights hurt your eyes, the less we’ll use them and the more energy they’ll save in the end.”
“Peeta?” I mean to murmur but instead my voice comes out in a whimper.

i have a lot of criticism for the harry potter films (mainly how dirty they did ron) but i don’t think any film will ever capture the spirit of a book the way philosophers stone does.
it’s just the perfect book to film adaption!! it perfectly captures the innocence and magic and is just brilliant!!

honestly it weirds me out and makes me uncomfortable how people try to justify the “but peeta wanted them so badly line” because it *does* read as though he forced her. which he obviously didn’t but the line isn’t awkward, it just doesn’t make sense. trying to justify it does more harm than good to me. i feel it would make more sense to be like “yeah this line doesn’t make sense in the context of the story. peeta did not and would not try to force katniss”
I don’t love the line, but even I think it’s a stretch to say this line implies forcing.
This is the entire line, and this is all Katniss says about the subject before she talks about being pregnant.
It took five, ten, fifteen years for me to agree. But Peeta wanted them so badly.
I just don’t read forcing anywhere in here. At the worst I guess you could read persistent prodding.
Just a few sentences later, she says she believes things will be okay because Peeta says they will be okay. She trusts him when it comes to parenting and dealing with their trauma postwar. I have a hard time reconciling “I trust him” with “he forced me” unless the Peeta we know has become a completely different person in the twenty year interim (and for some reason, Katniss hasn’t changed at all). Peeta doesn’t even kiss her without letting her make a first move. Make her have his kids? X to doubt.

The Proposal, Chapter Three
Tumblr media
‘I’m sorry I laughed at your pyjamas.’ Peeta’s voice in the even silence had startled her slightly, but his tone was flat and, dare she say, genuinely apologetic.
‘I thought I would be alone in a hotel.’
He laughed at her again then, not needing to look at her to know the scowl that was gracing her face.
‘I just didn’t expect dinosaur pyjamas, that’s all.’
