It absolutely is. As you stated in another reblog, he (and Suzume's relationship to him) is a complex, multilayered metaphor.

This only adds to my enjoyment of the chaos he spreads.

Watching Suzume again today as I recover from a mild cold.

It's such....it's such a weird movie to recommend to people who don't watch anime. Because like, on one hand...it's got giant monsters and talking cats and the romance is between a 17 year old and a grad student who is temporarily cursed to be an animate chair.

But it's also one of the most beautiful portrayals of grief, not just personal grief but communal grief, the loss of people and places and the land itself. It's a celebration of community and small acts of kindness in the face of trauma and mourning. And I honestly feel like it's one of those movie that can deeply touch you as a person.

But it's also about a girl who almost kisses a chair who is cursed by a talking cat. So.

I cannot overstate how much off an asshole the cat is. Like, spoiled little kid with no concept of other people's feelings level of asshole. (makes sense, considering he's a magical kitten turned into magical ward for who knows how many centuries)

He kicks of a wild goosechase all over Japan because he wanted to be Suzume's cat. (it makes sense in context)

He lets himself be photographed and posted on Social Media. He is utterly gleeful at the chaos he's wrecking.

Also he's the utter definition of "My poor little MeowMeow" (literally).

This cat is an absolute asshole and I love him to pieces.
