a character fainting in the middle of being lectured by their captain for something they did wrong, both worrying them and explaining why they'd made the mistake in the first place, is soooooo good

that thing whumpees do sometimes where they lean against a wall by their forearm with their head down and sort of half say half pant something like "i'll be okay just gimme a minute"

caretaker telling them no, they can't rest, they have to keep moving!! whumpee slipping in and out of consciousness! caretaker not even knowing whumpee is hurt until they see the blood streaking the wall!!

I see your “whumpee who still feels guilty for a past action they've done to caretaker despite the fact that caretaker already forgave what they've done”, and raise you “caretaker actually doesn’t fully forgive them, and is in an internal struggle of ‘I hate this person but not enough to let them die’ and is very conflicted over helping them. They’re not heartless, but they’re hurt by whumpee’s actions and are not sure what to do”

YES. also whumpee knowing that caretaker is pissed and thinks they don't care, so they're very hesitant to even ask them for help and when they finally do, they assume the answer is going to be no. caretaker shows up and says "i'm mad, but I don't want you dead."

Unwilling leaders. Forced to the position by a higher authority or by lack of authority. They didn't want to give the krders. They didn't want to be the one who had to think about everything. But now they should because no one else will. And not wanting a job isn't the same with giving their all to the job. Someone will have to buy these burdens from their dead body because all they want is to male things right.

So they lead. They pour their soul to make up their initial unwillingness. They use all of their strength so no one else is forced— or someone unworthy gets the position. They fight, and they lead, and they care, but none of it returns back to them. The opposite, they realise slowly. It didn't make people happy. It isolated Leader while people didn't even notice the improvements.

One day, they stop hoping to be recognised. They pull back completely. And no one notices until they need Leader to do something else. Too bad Leader doesn't care enough to please people anymore.

this is one of my fav character types!! especially the aspect of peers turning into subordinates. all of a sudden the dynamic shifts. their every move is scrutinized. people who were friends care less and less as leader makes harder and more controversial calls. leader having to make tough decisions that result in serious loss and their team not forgiving them.

also when they finally break down--panic attack, exhaustion-related collapse, etc--the team remembers that they still care because deep down, this is still their friend.

Yoooooo characters who rush recovery. Passing out because they’re trying to run around the day after a high fever breaksssss 💖

Caretakers who don’t know the right thing to say to put whumpee’s mind at ease. Whose soft side is so stale that it’s gone brittle, easily crumbling with the lightest touch. Who accidentally make whumpee feel guilty about being sick or injured because caretaker makes it very apparent that whumpee is putting them out and making them do something they hate. Who have been cared for so little in their life that they don’t even know how to perform it. Caretakers who mean well but end up making whumpee even more worked up than before. And maybe even another caretaker saying “what the hell is wrong with you?” When they accidentally say something harsh or cold.

i'm in such a whump scenario rn it's unbelievable. i had to get an urgent medical procedure on tuesday which has left me in severe pain. like lay in bed and don't move at all pain most of the day yesterday and bad but push-throughable pain today. i move to a new apartment on saturday. i've been packing all day despite the pain and if i still hurt on saturday i'm just gonna have to cope. i deserve such a little treat you wouldn't believe

caretakers who aren't totally put together and calm and steadying all the time. caretakers who mess up. caretakers who scream. caretakers who are STRESSED

caretaker shaking and gritting her teeth and wiping her tears off with the back of her hand when she sees whumpee for the first time in months, chained up and covered in her own blood. caretaker hyperventilating while patching up whumpee, muttering reassurances to convince them both that everything will be okay. caretaker trying to carry whumpee, but falling to her knees again and again because she just can't do this, no matter how hard she tries.

caretaker mistakes (especially when they harm whumpee on accident and feel super guilty about it) are one of my fav tropes. i love how realistic this is, too. most people are not defaulting to calm cool and collected in the face of an emergency. they're panicking, crying, terrified. and it's suuuuuch a good trope to have someone else have to move caretaker aside and take over, shooting her an angry glare at the fact that she's falling apart at the most inopportune time. :)

i love when the team blames leader whumpee for overworking them, only to find out that leader is working even harder and is absolutely exhausted. they're not being tough because they're a demanding asshole--it's because there's an even more demanding asshole above them. bonus points if the team complains about the workload so leader takes on more work without a word and no one knows until they crash and burn.

whumpee skips dinner and goes to bed early, feeling a little shaky and chilled, then wakes in the middle of the night burning with fever and drenched in sweat. she knows something is very, very wrong, and that she needs help. she stumbles her way down the hall to caretaker's room, but when she catches herself on the doorframe, she hears caretaker crying. she knocks on the door, there's no response, so she opens the door to find caretaker in the middle of a panic attack.

"what's wrong?"

"sorry, i just--it's stupid. i'm fine. i'm fine. i'm--what are you even doing up?" she manages around frantic inhales and trembling exhales.

"i heard you crying," she half lies. "i wanted to see if you were okay."

caretaker opens up and they sit together on the floor, caretaker's head on whumpee's shoulder, for a few minutes before caretaker realizes how hot she is and asks if she's still not feeling well.

"don't worry about me," she dodges.

"no, i think i will." she reaches up to whumpee's forehead and curses, immediately beelining for flu tablets and a thermometer.

"you don't have'ta do this," whumpee slurs, delirious and exhausted from the fever. "you're not okay."

"you're not okay, either," caretaker says. "you came into my room to die horribly like a hamster. we need to focus on you for a minute."

feeling guilty, whumpee accepts the thermometer--the reading far too high--and the flu tabs, drinks as much water as she can without being sick. they get her to her caretaker's bed because it's closer and tucks her in.

"just rest," caretaker says. "i want to keep an eye on you."

"but you--"

"i'm feeling much better now. it's time we take care of you."

so she lets herself fall asleep <3
