honestly I got really scared seeing people suddenly reblog - but I'm glad that the OP of the last rb put in some really thoughtful character analysis. like I did think about it while making my posts but unfortunately I'm awful at putting my thoughts into words.

like I'm so serious. I actually thought I was gonna get harassed or something because of my past experiences in other fandoms. atp I'm just gonna post my art and disappear 😭😭😭 I genuinely don't have anything interesting to say so I just rb as well.

missing ai hoshino horribly like.... !!! the fact that she tries again and again and puts in 1000% effort for her loved ones and cares so deeply despite calling herself a liar. normally I don't like this phrase but really she's just a girl. i love her sm.

re : last post. OP pretty much summarised a lot of what I was thinking. honestly the way people will look at ai's narrative, especially from people who are uninterested in seeing her as a person, is so nasty.

like they'll see her narrative, then they'll just say something like "oh but this should be about a MAN, what if the narrative is about a MAN" in fanart of "idol".

as if her narrative isn't about purity culture!! and the impossible, misogynistic standards put on her!!! and her wanting to be seen as a person!!

then they see her even being slightly flawed and the narrative of "oh she's just being manipulative and she just wants to use people all the time" kicks in. like my god.

please indulge me in being a little hater in this post, but. the more time goes by & the more of them i see, the more of a grouch i become about fanart or animations of 'idol' that match (or attempt to match) its imagery to male characters.

'idol' & ai's character arc in general are about specifically misogynistic ideologies of purity, virginity and male access to women's emotional labor and the impact it has on the women who are subjected to this sort of scrutiny. from there, it asserts that celebrity does not free one from these expectations but exacerbates them tenfold. the music video quite literally opens by juxtaposing two misogynistic caricatures of ai as she's seen by the people around her - the clueless and pure child-woman with a vacant expression and cuddling a stuffed animal and the threateningly sexual scheming seductress who threatens the sanctity of the child-woman's virginal purity.

obviously this kind of surface-level reading of purely the text of the lyrics and assumption of applicability is inevitable when it comes to something that's blown up as massively huge as idol has, but it still kind of makes me feel like a cat getting pet in the wrong direction whenever i see it lol.

study of princess kakyuu that I did last year. my skills have improved since then - but this specific version of kakyuu is based off personal headcanons of mine (half venezolana - my family specifically are considered moren@ so that's what i am going off, used to work in a florist shop sometime after stars arc).
